It was recorded on Gilmour’s repurposed house boat studio, which floated in the Thames river. According to Gilmour, this album was meant to “restore the balance” of music and lyrics. I soon memorized every note from my sisters’ records. They would discuss the attributes of their favorite Mop Top. My mom would put The Chipmunks Sing The Beatles Hits on repeat, my ear pressed against the hi-fi speaker. Then, around 1968, I watched a rerun of Help! on our neighbor’s new color TV. I must have this album! Spent my money from returned soda bottles at Arlan’s variety store. Where would I put it? I stress about stuff like that. This album of b-sides and singles somehow warranted its own tour back in the day. After 5 or 6 @bellesglasgow concerts, this one is still my favorite from an arrangement standpoint. I’ve been to other shows that had other great aspects, but none were as well arranged as this one. “Piazza, New York Catcher” stands out as an example of how changing an arrangement can take a song to the next level. Day 1 of #mayvinylchallenge 2024. 1st vinyl that started your collection: Revocation - The Outer Ones 2020 US, numbered, blue white splattered. So technically this was my 2nd record ever bought, the first one being @dukestamina album. But it wasn't what sparked the obsession really. I've already posted this album, in fact it was the first post when I started this account last year. The record itself is still one of my favorite from the band and has since been signed by Mr. @david.davidson at their Copenhagen show with Aborted, Vexed amd Carnifex earlier this year. He even gave me a guitar pick. Thanks again man! Hope touring is going great and I'm sorry for putting you through signing all those records with that annoying pen, haha. I didn’t have my own record player, yet, but I did already have a deep love for music and physical media. Growing up with my dad’s collection, I have fond memories of music filling the house, along with a lot of dancing and joy. I was born a music lover, so of course I’ve ended up right here. ☺️ I would step foot into Streetside Records on Providence, and dig through my first bins on my own one day in August of 2007. As soon as I opened up that Kings of Leon record and saw that it was a translucent red record, I WAS HOOKED! Day 1: 1st Record that Started You Collecting Over the years I obtained a few records but vinyl was never something I was really trying to collect. That all changed when @cerclemusic @cerclerecords put out their first physical release on vinyl. It came in the coolest jacket where the covers can be swapped out for any of the beautiful photos that came with it. They are extremely high quality photo prints, and are taken from Cercle's epic set backdrops. On the back of each photo, there are additional photos from the performance, information about the day, and coordinates! Plus the music is obviously incredible and by some of my favorite artists that Cercle absolutely helped me discover. Flamenco Paco Peña | Paco Peña, 1970 (Fontana, UK, '70) I first encountered these gorgeous pieces playing through Paco's flamenco sheet music, and didn’t hear the originals until picking up this (still very cheap) LP. These are Paco's self-penned variations on the concert style of solo flamenco guitar popularised by Ramón Montoya, Niño Ricardo, and Sabicas (among others). They are melodically driven, classically influenced pieces - there's less rhythm and improvisation than, say, Paco de Lucía in that same period. The inspiration for picking up the sheet music and then LP was seeing Paco live in 2007. He completely commanded the stage with his humility and quiet grace: he is not a showman, but he priorities variety and dynamics in his playing, and focuses the audience on the incredible capacities of his instrument. It has connected me with many fellow vinyl lovers through the years. I skipped school on release day back in 1980 so that I could head downtown with my best friend to buy it. This is the album that started a lifelong passion, which continues still. ⠀ ⠀ There was no doubt in my mind that this album would be my choice for today, but in fact, this record would have done for a few of this month's prompts. I own many variants of it (day 26), including a Japanese OBI pressing (day 21).
