Butterfly stitch cord 🦋 for the drawstrings of our Third Grade handwork bags. This cord making process uses two hands and two colors of yarn simultaneously. Have you given it a try yet? Most of my current third graders have already learned the butterfly stitch for the cord of their recorder cases but this drawstring is made from thinner yarn and it is much longer than the recorder case cord so it is wonderful review and practice at the same time. About 2 years ago a group of women in my online handwork classes began asking me if I would offer a “full or complete “ handwork journey through the curriculum I have developed over the last 18 years of teaching. I said no, then I said no again and then I said maybe. 5 years ago I thought teaching handwork online at all was impossible and that I could never do it, obviously I was wrong. So with lots of careful thinking and feeling my way through it all I said YES to these women. 13 months ago we began a journey that started with karma, destiny, incarnation and birth we have journeyed all the way to adolescence. The women in this group have become a handwork family, a small tight knit and supportive community as our lives have been woven together over time . I will forever be grateful that they encouraged and inspired me to push myself on yet another level. Thank you ladies 🤍 Here you can see we are finishing up projects from the middle grades as we begin working on our last two grades together. This morning, we woke up to the beautiful sound of raindrops, and I must say I didn't fancy a walk in the rain. Instead, the children and I started creating stories. Then we decided to put it in practice, and here we have a very busy chef, preparing food for all the hungry dwarves that are on the way home from a long night spent in the forest, tending to sick animals. The chef was in a bit of a situation as he didn't have any pots, but have no fear...we took care of it and made a few. My table after one of my virtual crochet classes. I typically teach crochet in the second half of Second Grade. Crochet is very different from knitting, which uses both hands equally (the method of knitting I teach), all the work in crochet is done with the dominate hand. The dominate hand using the hook introduces a new awareness and rhythm, giving the hand new strength, muscle memory, and sensitivity not only for handwork class but for other skills such as writing.
