Living near lakes that freeze these past few years I have observed that there is a day or two every spring when the thaw really gets going and the lake is completely shrouded in fog. Usually it’s after a heavy rain on a warm day. Once the rain passes the fog begins to rise and spread across the lake. This year it happened in late afternoon on a day in mid April. I noticed the fog starting to form and ran out with my camera. One of my best memories came out of this place, so these pictures are a little extra special. We had just gotten here, started to explore and spotted this. After only a few shots it started to rain. Then out of nowhere it started pouring, like hair soaked, clothes drenched, no point in wearing shoes anymore, kind of pouring. After a few more shots between wiping off my camera, it was time to go. There’s something about running through the pouring rain, laughing, not a care in the world because everything is already wet. Exploring under the hot sun is great but I want more days like this.

My first official attempt at capturing the Milky Way. After pulling over in Colorado last year and catching a glimpse of it, I thought I’d give it a real go with some intention. I was on my way to Vermont for the eclipse and had a few dark places in mind. My first attempt was blocked by three feet of snow on a mountain road. I turned back and after another hour or so I spotted a sign for a scenic view. Turns out this place was looking directly out onto the Milky way. Got lucky with this view, but hoping to plan a lot of trips to catch skies like these this summer 👽
