I love the chapel of the church in which i grew up and today was a sunshine spring day to honor the death of a kind patriarch in that chapel, to hold buckeyes, and to sing “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” and “It Is Well With My Soul.” Also today, i met for the first time the wife of my Epic Romance Ex and she was perfectly lovely. She acknowledged with kindness that she had heard stories about me, i copped to being a hot mess, we made mom small talk and smiled genuinely. I got to be my best self and i am grateful to her for it. Later, my dude, the One That I Pushed Away said, “i didn’t realize you two hadn’t met,” and i felt like i was in a John Hughes movie and turned to him in disbelief that i was having to remind him that i had been vorboten in his family for years even though they lived just blocks from my parents’ house. “It broke my heart!” I quietly protested but then quickly followed up with, “But it’s fine.” Because it is. At the death of a good man, we remember that we struggle in life, like reeling in a fish. Sometimes we’re the fisherman and sometimes we’re the fish. We break each other’s hearts. We break our own. We leave. We are left. Our dads die. But even though i know with my brain that hearts mend, it was a gift to my grief to experience a wound that used to drain me, now no longer hurting. In the sacred space my father put decades of his life into cultivating for just such moments between people when G-d can be witnessed, i am reminded that we can spit out the hook and swim free. #LilithQuilts #EarthseedQuilt #GodIsChange #TheSemiDecadeOfWrestlingWithMyPatriarchs #WestminsterChapel

Feeling under the weather for the last couple of days... 🤒🤧 Cheering myself up with a hot chocolate and 'Logic on Fire' - a documentary on one of the greatest preachers of all time (in my opinion!). Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones is one of my favourite preachers of the gospel. I had the opportunity to visit Westminster Chapel earlier this year where he preached which was amazing. I pray for more preachers like him for this generation. But he was also one of a kind! The @banneroftruth have published this great board book for kids called 'The Doctor Who Became A Preacher'.
