This past week at the Sherry Lane center the DNA/Baird PreK Partnership class enjoyed their first field trip to the Western Heritage Day at Hardin-Simmons University Hardin-Simmons University. The 3-year-olds loved seeing the 6-White Horses and learned how the horses clean their hooves. They also learned how clothes had to be hand washed by using a washboard and even got to try it out themselves. They also enjoyed the reenactments done during their visit. Thank you to our friends at HSU for offering this fun, hands-on experience for young scholars each year! @bairdisdbears @hsutx #dnaisinmydna #WhyIGive #AbileneGives #inmydnaera

This week at Vine Street the infants enjoyed carpet time learning to sit up and crawl. The one-year-olds love to dance! They enjoy interacting with each other clapping to the beat and holding hands to turn circles. The two-year-olds talked about spiders and then showed off how they could walk like a spider. The younger three-year-olds build tall towers and pretend to take care of babies. The older three-year-olds made shapes out of pipe cleaners. Being able to twist and move the pipe cleaner helps them learn the shape in a hands-on approach. The weather this week has been amazing and all classes have enjoyed it outside. Taking advantage of it has been awesome for everyone! #dnaisinmydna #WhyIGive #AbileneGives #inourdnaera

5/2/2024, 12:08:11 AM

Activities abound at the Day Nursery of Abilene centers including with the children at the Cedar Street Center. A recap includes how the infants enjoy going outside and getting some fresh air. Those in the 12–18-month-old classroom had a great time doing artwork that was inspired by the book, 3 Billy Goats Gruff. Children ages 18–24 months enjoyed stretching their legs while riding on the tricycle. Young 2-year-olds enjoyed gathering woodchips into their buckets. This helps with their fine motor skills as they are using their fingers to pick up the woodchips. It also helps with crossing the midline of the body and hand-eye coordination. 3-year-old class and younger 4s classroom are learning to match bug shadows. This helps with gross motor development. Older 4s and 5s classes had a field trip to Hardin-Simmons University to experience the annual Western Heritage Day events which is always a hit and full of fun learning! The school-age classes enjoyed finger painting a flower and learning about different houses around the world. The children worked on drawing their own houses. #dnaisinmydna #WhyIGive #AbileneGives

We asked our team, "why do you give?" Kasey said: “I love York County’s commitment to local charity organizations. Give Local York is my favorite time of year because of how everyone comes together and celebrates the amazing work we all do. Most importantly, my child lives here. I want her to grow up in a place that has all these amazing resources if she ever needed them, and I can ensure that by giving. I get the chance to instill into my daughter what it means to give back, and Give Local York is the perfect platform to do that.” #CHOY #ChildrensHomeOfYork #GiveLocalYork #WhyIGive

Organizations like @dreamwrightstheatre, @familyfirsthealth, and @leadershipyork offer programming and services that make a noticeable difference in our community, and I am proud to support them. We asked our team, "why do you give?" One of our team members answered: "I choose to give to CHOY because yes, I love my job and I love what we stand for. The youth are our future. I also like to support Bell Socialization Services; I am a former employee but years prior when I was a young single mother, I spent time in the Bell family shelter with my kids twice. When I stayed there, I always told myself I wanted to work there some day, I didn’t end up working at the shelter, but I did end up working in the IDD department as a Residential Program Supervisor. I think Give Local York is great and I hope everyone that “gives” understands how truly important and impactful they are to these organizations." #CHOY #ChildrensHomeOfYork #WhyIGive #GiveLocalYork

Bill and Cindee attended their first CASA Lake County annual gala over 20 years ago and were touched by the heartfelt stories told by young people whose lives benefited by having a CASA volunteer. They made their first donation that same night. Bill and Cindee have continued to support our CASA program since then — first through Heartland Produce and more recently, through the Heartland Children’s Foundation. When asked what has motivated them to continue giving, Bill said: "I feel that investing in children is the best investment we can make. Supporting programs that give children access to health care, nutrition, education, and a safe environment all fit into that. CASA does a huge service to children who get caught in the foster care system and need an advocate. The Heartland Children’s Foundation was created with these objectives in mind." #WhyIGive "The innovative research the neuroimaging team is doing breaks the boundaries of conventional use & could propel the entire field into the future. Howard and I were drawn to this area because it is something we can understand, and we realize the critical importance of it." - Mrs. Ellen Katz, Barrow Neurological Foundation Board of Trustee Richard Dortch, PhD, was recently presented with the Ellen and Howard Katz Chair for Neuroimaging Innovation. The Dortch Laboratory focuses on developing innovative brain, spinal cord, & nerve imaging technologies. These technologies are designed to guide surgery, improve diagnostics, expand our understanding of disease progression, & serve as biomarkers of therapeutic response. We are so grateful to Ellen & Howard Katz for their gift in funding this vital research. To make your donation towards life-saving research, click the link in our bio!

🌟 "Why I Give to Girls Inc. NSV" - Meet Ashley Kellogg! 💖 Former board member and dedicated supporter shares her heartfelt reasons for giving to Girls Inc. NSV as part of our 12 Months of Giving campaign. 🎁✨ "I first got involved with Girls Inc. NSV in 2014 when my kids were babies. As a facilitator, I worked directly with the girls and witnessed the incredible impact the programs had on girls from all backgrounds. Joining the Board in 2017, I continued to be involved in facilitation, cherishing the opportunity to see the growth of these amazing girls in so many different ways. Now, as a mom to a 12-year-old pre-teen, I see the challenges she faces with friends and school. Even with a strong family life, having someone to look up to and that additional encouragement is always beneficial. Girls Inc. NSV provides that mentorship and support, shaping the futures of these young girls. Although I've termed off the board, my commitment to promoting Girls Inc. NSV and being a mentor for youth is unwavering. I believe in the transformative power of mentorship, and I hope to continue making a positive impact for as long as I can!" 💪👭💕 Donate with Ashley at https://girlsincnsv.networkforgood.com/ #WhyIGive #GirlsIncNSV #MentorshipMatters #12MonthsofGiving
