🔆 update 🔆 Hey friends! Long time no see! I thought I’d make a quick little post to say how sorry I am for disappearing offline. Long story short, I’ve been battling severe burn out. I think I took on too much, with some stressful personal situations happening at the same time, plus having two little babes it was really just a recipe for failure - I don’t see that at the time, I thought I could manage it all Well, I couldn’t, and that’s ok. Sometimes we need to take a step back, revaluate and give ourselves permission to only take on what we can. So with that said, a little business update for you Easing myself back into things, I’ll only be offering fit checks/advice virtually. I’ve found it quite difficult to manage in person consults with two clingy babes at home, so for now I’m hoping this’ll work for all. Feel free to slide into my DMs or send me an email I love to chat all things babywearing so please don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re unsure of what you may need, what may suit you/your baby best etc or simply just want to have a chat I know times are tough at the moment for a lot of families so everything will be completely free of charge. I’ve had a huge shift recently and I just want to offer my guidance, support, knowledge and love however I can I’m also slowly implementing a carrier lending library for you to hire/try out before making that big purchase which will come with a small hire fee, but I’ll let you know when that’s all up and running! Why do I love baby wearing? This is me wearing my 6w old baby the first week I was back at work. I had the amazing opportunity to take my daughter to work with me for the first year of her life. Yo how did I do that you ask? How I kept up with a 3y? How I nursed on the go? Hiked with a 6-24m old? I wore them! I learned to love baby wearing out of sheer nessisary with our first. He was a preemie, highly sensitive (orchid), and had a lot of additional needs. He struggled to sleep or regulate at all. One of the only times he was ever happy was skin to skin or being worn. So, needless to say I wore him ALOT! I can confidently say that about 50% of my babes days were on me in a wrap. They were happiest and could sleep and nurse easily. Plus I got 2 free hands! There are amazing benifits to anyone baby wearing their baby. Some are: 1. Baby is safest when in contact with you. Baby wearing allows this. 2. You can do skin to skin and move around. (If I haven’t told you skin to skin has amazing benifits for you both) 3. You can nurse easily and covertly (I may have only worn a baby and a wrap on top to the farmers market for this reason) 4. You have 2 hands free!!! Even better when they are old enough for you back and you can safely cook! 5. It’s a work out 6. Babies sleep best when in contact with an adult, so they sleep great in a pack 7. It’s very soothing for babies, especially for other caregivers, dads/no birthing parent. 8. No one touches your baby and they get less germs when you’re out 9. You don’t have to schlep that heavy car seat 10. It can help keep them from getting flat spot on their head. 11. Like tummy time. Not the same but helps with muscle development similarly. 12. Can help if they need to bel held upright after a feeding 13. It can help them grow and learn as they get older as they see a lot and you narrate your world to them 14. Humans have always worn or carried their babies 15. As they get older it’s still comforting! (My 5y asked to be warped on my back tonight! It was a good way for her to co-regulate after a long day) This is just a few reasons!

My husband asked me today about all the wraps I have and keep buying. He goes “Oscar has what, another 6 months of wearing and then what are you going to do with all your carriers?” And I get it, once they start walking and what not I do see how it would seem to others that there is a timeframe or limit to how long you can carry your baby for But I want to tell you this ‘timeframe’ is a misconception. Not only are most baby size carriers suitable for up to 15kg (that’s well into toddlerhood) and then not to mention the toddler/preschool carriers that are available for older kids… There is no timeframe to carry your baby/child. Yes I may not be carrying him for sleeps for much longer (if he decides he’s happy to sleep not touching me 🤭) but there’s so many other reasons and situations that you will carry. Emotional regulation, grocery trips, long walks when their legs get tired, illness and so, so much more If your baby/toddler wants to be carried, if you want to carry please go ahead and do it. Don’t worry about any societal pressures that may sway you to stop carrying by a certain age. Babywearing is so much more than just carrying. From around the 4 month mark, baby typically tends to be way more alert and may start to seem agitated in the carrier due to wanting to look around more You may think that forward facing, facing out may be the only option…buts it’s not! Back Carry Between 4-6mths your baby will reach the developmental milestones to back carry - these being strong & consistent head/neck control and being able to sit unassisted. Back carrying is an amazing way for baby to be able to see more Hip Carry Sometimes carrying off centre either in a half buckle with a suitable hip carry or a ring sling provides that little bit of extra visibility for baby Arms Out Once again, between 4-6months as baby gets more strength and a bit more mobile, they may start to want their arms out of the carrier. This is A Ok providing the top of the back panel sits under their arms (we don’t want it too low as it’ll become a fall risk) Having their arms out will allow them to push off of your chest a little to twist their little bodies to look around. It’ll also give them a sense of a bit more ‘freedom’ and like they aren’t as confined. You can also try things such as aiming your body in a way that’ll allow baby to see whatever they are waiting to sticky beak at 🤭 Standing side on and moving around will make baby happy! My littlest babe turned 1 on Sunday 🥹 it was such a bittersweet day I still can’t fathom how it’s already been a year! Time just moves so incredibly fast We also celebrated a full year of babywearing, contact napping and slinging! Even at 1, it’s all still a huge part for our day. If you ever get the chance to upsize a wrap you love, do it. I had a 3 in this wrap and was given an opportunity to upsize to a 7. No regrets and I’m so glad I was able to get this in a long wrap so that I can carry Jo in it much longer than I would have been able to in the size 3.
