During peak times, it may be difficult to find a seat but they do open up fairly quickly. The service here is amazing, theyโre super attentive and nice which is a big plus. In terms of their food, their cruffins are TO DIE FOR - I absolutely love them to death. They rotate their flavours and every single one Iโve had has been phenomenal. Admittedly, difficult to eat which the sugar coating on the croissant mixed with the custard inside but still so so good that itโs worth the mess. I do wish it was served warmed which would take it to the next level! The sandwiches are surprisingly good as well. My favourite is the ham and Swiss. It is very filling and I love how much they pack into the sandwich (especially how much Dijon they put in it hehe). In terms of the coffee, it was decent. I was expecting more bold flavours to come out and taste the richness but unfortunately I could not. Maybe I had too high of expectations for the coffee after tasting the pastries and food but regardless, it was still decent coffee. Overall though, this place is an amazing place to sit down, eat, read, study, and catch up with friends! The restaurant was really busy, but they were nice enough to offer us complimentary shots as an apology for the wait. For drinks, I tried the Pina Colaba and the Sadar Bazar. The Pina Colaba had a nutty aroma from the almond and cinnamon, but the flavor was too mild for my taste, slightly underwhelming. The Sadar Bazar is spirit-forward with a subtle Earl Grey finish. The fried chicken tikka slider were really goodโthe chicken was crispy and well-seasoned, though I wished the pieces were larger as some bites were just bread. The dahi puri was super flavourful and the crispy potato bits at the bottom were to snack on hehe. The amritsari fish tikka was FIRE. The fish itself was beautifully cooked and flavorful. I would have liked a bit more spice from the salsa. For dessert, we had the rasmalai, which was sososo yummy. Overall, the food at Barkat was tasty with artistic presentation and thoughtful flavors, even though the portions were smaller than expected. Surprisingly, it was pretty empty on a Saturday afternoon, which was unexpected. The owners were really welcoming and attentive. They took our orders promptly and the food arrived quickly too. They made sure to check in on us frequently, asking if we enjoyed the food and if we needed anything else. The atmosphere was a bit quiet for my likingโno music or anything on the TV, which made it feel less engaging. I was also a bit disappointed not to find Bun Bo Hue on the menu, especially at an authentic restaurant, which is usually my go-to at Vietnamese restaurants. We ordered the grilled chicken and fried egg rice, seafood noodle, and grilled pork and spring roll vermicelli. The rice dish met my expectations with a good balance of meat to rice and nicely grilled, flavorful chicken. However, the seafood noodle was a letdown; I expected a variety of seafood but found only fish balls, and the balance of noodles, soup, and seafood didnโt quite hit the mark, although the flavor was decent. The vermicelli dish was solidโnothing out of the ordinary but enjoyable. The grilled pork was particularly tasty and my favorite part of that dish, well-portioned too. @kurimuchicago 's Schaumburg location is one of my top favorite spots to grab delicious, flavorful, hard scoop and soft-serve ice cream. They make a wonderful variety of ice creams that have pronounced flavors and great taste + texture. On my recent two visits, I had their Mango and Taro soft-serve swirl, and also Mango cheesecake and Care Bear Stare (Mango, Lychee, and Purple Yam flavors) hard scoop ice cream. NC Pickle Festival in Mt Olive. Iโve been dying to go to this festival for years and I finally made it this weekend! The weather was absolutely beautiful! I will say it was a bit of a drive, almost 2 1/2 hours each way. If you plan to go next year, I definitely recommend getting there early. We arrived around 11 AM to take the shuttle from Walmart and waited almost an hour for a ride. The streets were very crowded and it was a little hard to get around. There was only one vendor area available for beer, wine, and mixed drinks and you had to stay in the designated area. Plan to wait a while if you would like a beverage. I tried the Pickletown Lager and the DILLIGAF IPA. Those were very good. I also had a spicy dill pickle, which I enjoyed. I did not get any other food because I really didnโt see anything extraordinary that I needed to try. โจ Happy Mondayโจ This past Friday, my friend @morgan.fuller333 and I had the privilege of attending @marlonfhallโs presentation titled โCan I Tell You A Story?: From A Door at the Center of a Table.โ Marlon, an artist, author, and anthropologist, showcased an exhibition that beautifully intertwines anthropology and art, aiming to heal communities that have endured political, cultural, or systemic trauma. Marlonโs unique art practice involves creating tables using reclaimed doors made of native wood from various communities. These tables serve as a gathering place, inviting a diverse group of 16 individuals to engage in the inherent beauty of humanity. The experience was reminiscent of Solangeโs โA Seat at the Table,โ and it resonated deeply with me. Upon entering the gallery, we were asked to choose a quote that resonated with us and connect with someone else who chose the same quote. Although I didnโt find anyone with my quote, it was enriching to hear why certain poems connected with others. We then sat at the table or assumed the role of a guest, observing and listening to the conversations taking place. Delicious food was shared, and a sense of community was fostered among individuals who may have never crossed paths otherwise. Each participant at the table was encouraged to bring an artifact representing their heritage, sparking meaningful conversations and evoking emotions of both joy and nostalgia. Overall, the experience was incredibly enriching, and I feel grateful to have been a part of it. A little ways back we were out and about one weekend and didn't know what to do for dinner. I had @krave.shack marked down on my map nearby and figured it was a chance for something a little different than what we typically make a quick stop for. I had the mixed gyro rice platter, which had chicken and lamb. Plenty of rice, salad, sauce, and topped with fries. Jenna went with a chicken sandwich and we split some mozzarella sticks. Platter was great. I probably should have saved it for two meals, but I got into the flow and finished it.
