Please pray for Matteo Matarazzo as he prepares for the priesthood! What inspired you to become a priest? I left the Faith and the Church for a period of time. One evening I went to listen to the catechesis of the Neocatechumenal Way (NCW). There I was told that God loved me and that He was not ashamed of me. It was the first time in a while that I felt really loved, forgiven, and accepted. Being in the NCW and having experienced the love of God in my life made me see my calling to become a priest. . Despite these challenging times, why do you still want to be a priest? . If I am going forward in my vocation it is not despite these times, but because of them. People today are starving spiritually. There is an urgent need to evangelize. I want to be able to bring God's love to these people in a very personal way. . What was the moment/event that confirmed your decision to enter the seminary? . One of the moments was when my life was spared after I had a car accident. Another moment was to see the patience and love of God through my formators that despite my initial rebellion, kept believing in my vocation and helped me in many ways to accept it. At the 9 am Mass on Good Shepherd Sunday, the seven youths who participated in the 7-day Spiritual Journey with Christ programme were recognised during a certificate presentation ceremony. The programme, conducted by Brs Boniface Chang and Mejoery Simon, is designed to provide a meaningful and enriching experience for our youths through service. Through various activities, workshops and discussions, the participants had the opportunity to deepen their faith, strengthen their relationship with Christ, foster a sense of community and fellowship, and work on self development. We thank God for the gift of the young in our parish and pray that the Lord will continue to stir in their hearts a great love for God and his people and a zeal to work in his vineyard. Today’s gospel reading | Luke 24:35-48 The two disciples recounted what had taken place on the way, and how Jesus was made known to them in the breaking of bread. While they were still speaking about this, he stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost. Then he said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.” And as he said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. While they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed, he asked them, “Have you anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of baked fish; he took it and ate it in front of them. At the time when Martin I became pope, there was a heresy that teaches Jesus had both divine and human nature, and only divine will. To deny Christ’s human will is to deny the scripture’s teaching that Jesus is in every way a human other than sin. As the Byzantine Church and empire were in support of this heresy, they issued an order to arrest or kill Martin, who reproached those who endorsed the teaching. Filled with anger, the Emperor sent his troops to capture and bring the Pope to Constantinople. He was imprisoned with a group of murderers and was poorly treated with disgusting food. He was then sent into exile. In 656, the Pope passed away in exile. We were deeply touched by the homily of Canon Michael, who stressed the importance of not just preaching, but living out the messages of Divine Mercy. Saint John Paul II, reviver of the writings of St Faustina, set us a good example of standing firm in the faith in face of Communism, an anti-Christ culture. Canon Michael invited us to remain counter culture because we have Christ on our side. As usual, many thanks to the Indonesian Youth Choir @indonesianyouthcatholicuk for their hard work in practising and singing hymns at the Mass!
