M51 the Whirlpool Galaxy located in the constellation Canes Venatici 23 million light-years away. This grand design spiral galaxy hosts two well defined galactic arms, intense regions of star forming nebula and an interacting dwarf galaxy-NGC 5195 which has been falling into the Whirlpool for hundreds of millions of years. M51 has an estimated diameter of 75 000 light years making it about 25 percent smaller than the Milky Way. 7.5 hours total exposure, 2 hours each RGB @ 120sec, 1.5 hours Ha @ 300sec. Here’s my newest Astro image that I’ve been working on between storms here in the Pacific Northwest. Trying to get enough data to complete a project this time of year is harder than putting together the actual finished product. Nonetheless I present to you M51 AKA The Whirlpool Galaxy. The light that makes up this image has traveled for 31 million years thru space to find its way down my telescope tube and on to my camera sensor. This is a spiral galaxy like our own Milky Way the spiral look is formed by the long lanes of stars and dust within the galaxy, the bright pink blotches are star forming factories that are compressing hydrogen gas to create new stars within. The face on view that we have here from Earth has taught us much about our own galaxy and allows us to see the structure within very well. For this image I collected about 8 hours of data from my home observatory in Boise under light polluted skies. Using a one shot color camera similar to what’s inside of your camera but using a cooled sensor to reduce thermal noise. I’m hoping to try this again from darker skies to compare the results but we’ll see if the weather wants to cooperate. I do hope you enjoy the image and info and would love to answer any questions or receive any feedback you have. Thanks for looking. Clear skies ✨

NGC 5033 is a spiral galaxy that is approximately 150k light years across located in the constellation Canes Venatici. Distance estimates vary from between 38 and 60 million light years from the Milky Way. Significant warping is visible in the southern half of the disk possibly due to the gravitational interactions with nearby NGC5005, an inclined spiral galaxy, as well as NGC5002 at the bottom of the image. 9 hours of data with an AT115EDT on an AM5 mount using an ASI533MC Pro with a UV/IR Cut filter. I setup a solar telescope during the eclipse, it was a fun way to share the views with everyone else around and collect a bunch of data. I had it set up so it was taking a shot every second and so that people could see the live feed on my laptop. I ended up with over 9000 images to sift thru. For this shot I stacked a bunch of the images together to bring out the detail of the sun and show the moon as it was almost completely passed over the sun. As you can see it was quite a busy day on the surface, the prominences you see here were blasting out from behind the moon during totality it was just WILD!

My Target was: NGC 4244 (Caldwell 26 - The Silver Needle) This is a cropped image 20 x 180 second R/G/B subs Antlia R/G/B filters RGB palette The Set up.... Location – my Bortle 8 backyard Celestron CGX-L mount and the Sky-Watcher EvoStar 150DX refactor with the standard Sky-Watcher 0.77 reducer/flattener (924mm focal length at F/6.2). The imaging camera was the ZWO 2600mm binned 2x2 with the Antlia R/G/B filters in the ZWO 7 position 2 inch filter wheel. The image scale was 87 by 58 arc-minutes with the image resolution of approximately 0.84 arc-seconds per pixel. The image was up-sampled to 1x1 resolution and drizzle x 1 with the PixInsight WBPP process. The camera RGB gain was set to 100 with the offset at 30. The camera was cooled to 0 degrees C. The guiding was with the Stellarvue SV60ED (60mm aperture, 330 focal length at F/5.5) and the ZWO-174 mini. The images were captured with Sequence Generator Pro. Bias and flats were applied. The subs were stacked using the PixInsight Weighted Batch PreProcessing (WBPP) script. Processed with PixInsight and PhotoShop. M64, also known as The Black Eye Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy 17 million light-years away in the northern constellation of Coma Berenices. It is estimated to be 13 billion years old and contains 100 billion stars. The galaxy is notable for the dark band of gas around the core as well as the outer bands of gas which rotate in the opposite direction as the rest of the galaxy mostly like due to the merger of M64 with a satellite galaxy. 13 hours of data captured with an EdgeHD-8 on a CGX-L mount using an ASI071MC Pro. Captured and processed with Nina, DSS, Pixinsight, and Gimp. #celestronuniverse #optolongfilters #zwoasi #agenaastro #deepskystacker #celestrontelescopes #zwocameras #celestrontelescope #passioneastrofotografia #optolong #celestronedgehd8 #universe #astrophotography #space #deepsky #astronomy #pixinsight #nebula
