Following the death of their grandmother, a family of 4 is haunted by disturbing occurrences.
I finally got to watch "Hereditary" and I'm so glad I did. Hands down, one of the best horror movies that I've ever seen. This is horror at its best and what horror should be!!! I honestly needed time to collect myself after it was over because I was genuinely scared 😂
The story is original, I didn't think that it would go this way, which kept the intrigue until the end. One thing that I wish was done a bit differently is how the mother figures out everything, I just felt like it happened way too fast.
Speaking of the mother, Toni Collette gives an absolutely terrific and chilling performance. It should have gotten more recognition at award shows. Alex Wolff (who plays the son) also shines during many scenes and there is one in particular where he is TERRIFYING. And finally the daughter, played by Milly Shapiro, brings the creepiness forward.
The way the tension is built thanks to the haunting score and the camera movements, is spot-on. The editing is so good as well. The first scene alone with the miniature house is impressive.
When I started reading more about it, I found out that there were many clues all along, you just had to pay attention. This makes me love and appreciate the movie even more and will definitely make a second viewing worthwile.
Overall, I loved everything about it. The story is original and unpredictable. The acting is great. The directing and editing are phenomenal. And all of these combined make watching this movie a highly stressful but enjoyable experience. I definitely recommend it.
