The Zone of Interest. This film portrays the time of the holocaust from a completely different angle compared to all other films that have come before it portraying the war time atrocities. We follow German officer Rudolf and his family who live right next to the concentration camps with just a wall separating it from their back garden. You get to hear and imagine what is going on the other side of the wall whilst the family just go about their lives in a very matter of fact kind of way. Although an extremely important topic, my opinion on this film was it was quite drawn out with actually very little plot to the story. Civil War: B Alex Garland, the writer of Ex Machina and 28 Days Later, returns with his latest depiction of the near future. I went in blind and didn’t know what to expect going into Civil War, but it definitely wasn’t a road-trip movie centered around journalists. We get shown very little of the other players in the war. In this universe, the press are seemingly neutral participants in a divisive civil war. They are battle-hardened and get in the way pretty much any chance they can to get a photo. I found their massive involvement and acceptance among soldiers a little odd, but there seems to be a respect from Garland to those that observe history and record it. The cause of the war itself is left unknown, and as a viewer, you are thrown into the midst of chaos to put together what pieces you can. What we are shown is that war is hell and that sometimes you don’t know why people are trying to kill others. The taking of political sides was kept at a minimum in Civil War, which was interesting and unexpected. The film is not about shedding blame onto one political party or the other, but rather showing what can happen when an ever-escalating culture of division gets to its breaking point. The atmosphere of this movie is perfect; it’s unsettling, haunting, and believable. Garland’s direction was impressive, and the acting was on point, especially from Jesse Plemons. The cinematography and overall production value was just outstanding, with the one exception being the editing. There were some very strange decisions regarding the editing that I thought threw the movie off. Some rushed scenes, odd music choices, and peculiar sequencing made me raise my eyebrow a few times. In the end, Civil War is a solid, recommendable movie! Could it have been executed better? Absolutely. There are so many great ideas on display, but it didn’t all come together quite how I would’ve hoped. The plot left a bit to be desired, but it was a very “cool” movie to observe. The world that Garland created deserves a lot of credit.

She chooses one of them, and together they have to play against the other. The film takes place during several years and is shown in a nonlinear way. It goes between the past and the present. It takes a little bit of time to get going and understand what's going on, but it gets better. Zendaya is a force to be wreckned with and gives the best performance of her career. It's like we've never seen her before. Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist are both strong supporting characters and each give solid performances. The movie highlights athleticism, friendship, and romance. There is drama, sensual moments, betrayal, and sport. It's well directed by Luca Guadagnino and beautifully shot. The film is enjoyable even if you know nothing about tennis. It's one of the better films of the year and a memorable one for sure. Tất cả mọi phân cảnh mà vị đạo diễn này đem lại cho mình có cái góc nhìn khác so với những phim chiến tranh thuần mà mình biết và mình cũng nhấn mạnh luôn là phim này cũng là thể loại chiến tranh nhưng lại có một màu sắc độc đáo không xen lẫn bất kì ai. Mình thích cái sự chân thật ở âm thanh của súng đạn, máy bay,... giúp cho bộ phim có một điểm nhấn ấn tượng. Về nhân vật, mặc dù tất cả đều là phóng viên nhưng ý chí và hành động của họ được thể hiện rõ ràng và mạnh mẽ mà không nhất thiết phải nói quá nhiều hay cảm xúc quá đà. Đây cũng là sự thành công của bộ phim khi biết cách chọn mặt gửi vàng. Mặc dù phim bị đánh giá thấp khá nhiều, nhưng đối với mình, một bộ phim thể loại quen thuộc như chiến tranh gây đau thương, buồn bã thế này mà vị đạo diễn còn chơi nhiều hình ảnh phối hợp với âm nhạc mang giai điệu vui nhộn tạo thành những phân cảnh phim như vậy thì mình nghe nó hơi phi lý nhưng đâu ngờ lại hợp nhau đến một cách kì lạ như vậy. Although the storyline is confusing af, its fairly obvious that the ambiguity was intentional as Christopher Nolan directed this film in reverse order unlike other movies which normally start at the beginning and end at the end but this does the opposite which can give a subjective view on things like you may trust this character and distrust another but someone may feel the opposite and also helps the viewer understand the Leonard as you never know what happened previously to him

SÉRIES VUES 📺 Acharnés, saison 1 (to : Beef) 〰️ 🇺🇲 2023 de Lee Sung-Jin, comédie dramatique Résumé : Un fâcheux incident survenu sur la route n'a de cesse de s'immiscer dans l'esprit de deux personnes et de consumer peu à peu toutes leurs pensées et actions. Avis : "Acharnés" ou “Beef” en anglais est une série que l'on m'avait recommandée et elle a été un véritable coup de cœur pour moi ! L'histoire, qui démarre comme une simple montée en tension sur la route, prend rapidement une tournure inattendue, nous entraînant dans un tourbillon d'événements imprévisibles. À travers ses rebondissements, la série semble vouloir nous démontrer la capacité destructrice de la haine, de la colère et de la bêtise humaine, et comment ces émotions peuvent détruire nos vies de manière irrémédiable. Chaque décision prise par les personnages a des conséquences qui s'accumulent au fil du récit, ajoutant une dimension de suspense et d'imprévu à l'intrigue. Les interactions entre les deux familles, ainsi que les rencontres entre les différents membres, sont orchestrées avec une précision remarquable, jamais laissées au hasard, ce qui ajoute une touche de drôlerie à l'ensemble. Les deux héros de la série sont brillamment interprétés, ce qui permet au spectateur de s'attacher facilement à eux. La série jongle habilement entre le drame familial et la comédie hilarante. À chaque épisode, on se demande jusqu'où cette histoire de klaxon va aller et on ne s’attend pas à tous ces retournements de situation. Pour résumer, "Acharnés" possède sa propre signature artistique : audacieuse, intelligente, percutante et comique. Where the Sidewalk Ends (1950) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - *Out of the Shadows: The Films of Gene Tierney* - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - One of the several noirs in Otto Preminger’s filmography. Where the Sidewalk Ends sees Detective Seargent Mark Dixon’s (Dana Andrews) violent nature keeps him from being a good policeman. However, an unforeseen incident sparks a change in his demeanour. I have had the BFI’s Otto Preminger Film Noir Collection for a while and had only seen Fallen Angels. With the BFI Southbank delivering a standout Gene Tierney focused season for April, I thought why not view the other two films in the set (this and Whirlpool, also released in 1950) on the big screen in a brilliantly timed double bill. First up was this excellent, violent, dark, hard boiled noir. Having appreciated Fallen Angels and thoroughly enjoyed his 1944 collaboration with Gene Tierney, Laura (of which I am annoyed to have missed during this season), I was looking forward to both of these flicks and Where the Sidewalk Ends offers an atmospheric, gritty crime tale, embroiled with a murder mystery, a morally skewed, yet good spirited protagonist and an expected underdeveloped romantic edge. It does overstay its welcome a tad in the final third, however the tension filled, sharp tongued close calls and clever coverups keep it consistently engaging up until then. Preminger’s direction is slick, sharp and precise. The zooms glide over to capture character reactions effectively, the violence is crunchy, raw and surprisingly brutal for the era, with the sound design for the slaps, punches and gunshots blaring from the screen. The film oozes its pulp, cigarette smog covered odour and simultaneously cosy yet dangerous charm to great effect. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Continued in comments

Movie Review - Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes (2014) Another banging movie that turns 10 years old this year and everybody seems to have forgotten how awesome it is. A decade on from the last film sees Andy Serkis' Caesar leading a community of Apes in the Muir Woods in San Francisco. An encounter with a nearby group of humans (led by Gary Oldman) sees an uneasy alliance where a small group (including Jason Clarke, Keri Russell and a young Kodi Smit-McPhee) are allowed to work on restoring a damn to get power to the city. However, another highly intelligent Ape in Caesar's clan called Koba (Toby Kebbell) has a distinct distrust for humankind and refuses to accept any sort of truce. This is excellent filmmaking from Matt Reeves (Cloverfield); the man can handle a blockbuster with ease. The battles are visceral and exciting, the tension is palpable and the CGI is top notch. Clarke and Russell are both decent but as before, this movie belongs to Serkis. Caesar is torn chimp; now he has a family and a whole community to look after and the last thing he wants is war. Kebbell is also fantastic as Koba. An embittered and bruised creature with a raw anger at the people who hurt him. The climatic scenes are up there with anything the MCU could produce and the score only adds to the heart pounding drama. From the opening scenes displaying what has happened to humanity to the sequences of primates riding wielding machine guns on horseback, it doesn't let up for a minute. Movies 2024 - The Bubble (2022; directed by Judd Apatow) 💩 (The Turd) April Fool’s: One of our modern day great comedy writer/directors takes on moviemaking in the time of COVID. What could go wrong? I’ll be totally honest: I don’t know if this whole movie is as bad as the first 45 minutes are. I kind of checked out at that point. The movie still played and I found myself still looking up at the screen, but my mind wandered so many places as the movie continued for another hour-plus. Why did Pedro Pascal and Karen Gillian agree to this? What has happened to Judd Apatow? Everyone had to have been paid really well to do this, right? I found this thing to be as bad as bad can be, made even worse by all of the talent involved. There are people here who should know better and people here who, while they may not typically have the most discerning picking ability, they really just gave up when it came to choosing this. I want to say, too, that this isn’t the worst movie I have ever seen. Not even by a long shot. It is, however, amongst the most disappointing. With a concept, casting, and production team so promising, this execution is downright depressing.

Trolls Band Together is somewhat amusing thanks to its voice cast and colorful world but it’s as passable as previous Trolls film.” SharpRatings: 5 - #Meh The first #Trolls film was very refreshing and amusing thanks to its clever writing, impressive and catchy songs, and animation that stemmed from something not unique. Then came the second film along with a series, and a few short films by #DreamworksAnimation however more or less they were inferior to the original film and soon what looked like a franchise started to cash-grab. #TrollsBandTogether comes from the heels of #TrollsWorldTour a film I enjoyed because it expanded this colorful and unique world even though both films had subpar songs instead of expanding the universe this time the film focuses on a personal level, mainly the main two characters, Branch and Poppy. I would say it's about Branch more than Poppy as a flashback in the start of the film show Branch was part of the band, led by his brothers when he was just a baby. So film focuses on not only brothers but family as a whole. Poppy finds her sister for unknown reasons while Bridget & King Gristle get married as well and have a minor story arc, they were missing from the last film so it was nice to catch up with them. The film follows these trolls into a new land, where EDM is heard. The film’s sibling villains aren’t strong enough to control the film and their screentime made me rolling eyes. The cast is lively as usual. #JustinTimberlake I thought had little to do even though his character was focused. #AnnaKendricks probably loves these films and it shows in her voice. I was not a fan of its animation as it was very generic and simple. Late Night with the Devil stars David Dastmalchian as a late night talk show host who is trying to put on a great show before his late night segment gets cancelled when the night goes awry. I am so impressed with this film and surprised that I’ve never seen anything like this done before. It was such a cool concept executed in a very engaging way as the whole film feels like you are watching a tape of an old late night show that had went off the walls in a terrible way. The entire time I just kept thinking “this is so uniquely done” and I had a blast with this film. It was well written and the build up to the final act is interesting and it pays off with a completely bonkers finale with some excellent but foreseeable twists. Dastmalchian gives a solid performance as this charismatic but somewhat mysterious late night show host and you can feel his eagerness to not get the show cancelled. The film itself, while interesting and well written, can definitely feel slow as it takes its time to unravel the story and the plot itself can feel generally predictable in the sense that all the suspicions about some characters are easy to figure out to be true or not, though the conclusion made me have to think about it a little bit, it was still easy to follow which made me feel like I was waiting for something more. Nonetheless, while it felt like there was something missing, this was still such an awesome film with a cool concept that was executed really well and packed with great performances, and a solid final act that delves you into this late night show experience. A lot of the film is dated from 2005, but it was embarrassingly cringy then too. The movie is not entertaining or enjoyable. It feels like a joke and something from YouTube. It's not memorable or exciting. This has some attractive people in it, but they can't save the movie from itself. There's no romance or chemistry. It doesn't know what it wants to be. The Fall Guy (2024): With all the explosions, flipped cars and people jumping out buildings, this film definitely lives up to being a ‘love letter to stunt workers’. Whilst it is a little too on the nose with this at times it doesn’t detract from this just being a fun movie. The action is mesmerising, the jokes are funny and the movie really feels like a passion project with the cast’s performances. I am definitely on board with Gosling’s petition to add a stunt category at the Oscars and I feel this film was a really creative way at approaching it. Back to the movie itself, it is a little generic with many action movie cliches and predictable plot points but the uniqueness in the whole ‘stunt guy’ idea makes it refreshing. The movie doesn’t feel slow nor does it feel like it skips over important details. Civil War - Doom On a National Scale Leaving Alex Garland’s Civil War, I was hoping I’d be able to shake the extraneous existential dread and sense of doom that this film impressed upon me. As I write this review hours after viewing, I am still unable to move on. In my opinion, this is the single most impactful war film that I’ve seen in recent memory, comparing only to 2022’s All Quiet on the Western Front in magnitude and emotion. It’s complicated to describe accurately the emotions that I felt during this movie, but I will try my best to put words to its power. Alex Garland’s ability to weave together a film so strong in its architecture and core themes, yet extraordinary in scope. Throughout, I was astonished at just how apolitical in nature the plot and setting come off. It’s set in a near future, and is executed in a way that doesn’t give into absurdity - every bit of action, terror, emotion, suspense, and dread feels raw, heavy, and real. Our small cast of protagonists interact with this world in a way that is so desperately detached that I found myself almost scared of them, but mostly feeling so, so sorry for them. Every scene finds a way to rattle you in a new, horrific way, while you are forced to be a captive audience and powerless to help. I found myself wincing, clutching my heart, and almost in tears as unimaginable acts of violence and evil are carried out before me - a parallel to our aforementioned cast’s demeanor. The transformation of these characters is unspoken, but given explicitly through experience and heartbreak. This film comes to us in a time in history that a scenario like this sometimes feels less unlikely, and I believe this is where Civil War’s grasp tightens significantly. Through the lens of war journalism and the impossible objectiveness that our characters seek, this road trip drama exists to terrify and empathize, while providing a glimpse into an underbelly of the Information Age that seeks only to break one’s spirit. #Cartelera Calificación: B+ “Abigail” no puede ser etiquetada en un solo género. Es una combinación rara entre acción, terror, comedia y de alguna forma la cinta funciona gracias al tomar todos los clichés del horror y darles un giro al tener personajes originales que poco a poco van sucumbiendo ante una terrorífica niña vampira hambrienta de sangre. El guion hace un muy buen trabajo en tratar de evitar que el espectador simpatice con las potenciales víctimas, ya que estamos hablando de personas capaces de secuestrar a una pequeña bailarina para obtener una fuerte cantidad de dinero. Al ser difícil conectar con dichos personajes, los momentos gore se hacen presentes sin tapujo alguno y vaya que son explícitos. La película cumple en su premisa, no intenta ir más allá de su absurda trama ni profundizar en los protagonistas. La dirección de arte juega un rol importante, colocando a la mansión como un personaje más lleno de sorpresas en el camino, como si estuviera construida para ser una trampa mortal para cualquiera que se atreva a entrar. Alisha Weir (la niña vampira), hace un gran trabajo al combinar la inocencia e incertidumbre con sarcasmo y inquietud. Su rol es impredecible, porque encuentra disfrute en la tortura implacable hacia sus captores. El suspenso está bien manejado a pesar de lo predecible y su punto fuerte radica no solo por el acecho vampírico sino también en la dinámica grupal. La tensión y la desconfianza se apoderan de ellos, haciendo este viaje mucho más divertido de lo esperado. Abigail sale airosa de su imaginable argumento gracias a su manejo de humor negro y al trabajo del elenco. Cabe recalcar que este fue el último trabajo del fallecido actor Angus Cloud.

What a force of nature CHALLENGERS was! Some of the most chaotic and incredible editing I've ever seen. Wild tennis action. It made tennis as intense as it is if you love the sport. Probably best tennis action ever on film. Also, Amazing use of time in this film. Christopher Nolan would be proud! Lolol! Lucas Guadagnino makes some phenomenal films. This may have been his most fun! Bought out the absolute best in his cast Captained by Zendaya, she was extraordinary. She had this wild way about her in CHALLENGERS unlike she has in previous films. She was wild. Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist were amazing too. They all had such great chemistry. Made the film that much better. The music in the film was tremendous too!
