LAAPATAA LADIES - ON NETFLIX The story of losing his wife on a train , Deepak brings Pushpa to his house thinking of her as his wife. This leads to a chase and trail of finding Phool, who is lost at Pateela Station. The movie starts by keeping a simple theme of marriage and exchange of wives, but it takes a strange turn when police starts to have a gut believe that Pushpa is a thief. The movie touches different social issues on a ground/ surface level such as , Farmer's problem, Rape and harrasment, dowry and domestic violence. And also takes a run on the rural area issue of not letting women get educated much. The screenplay never loses your attention, even it be a single standing shot. It is precisely trimmed and served. The direction of Kiran Rao was well narrated through every frame of the scenes. Although being out of filmmaking business from last 13 years since her debut , DHOBI GHAT, she manages to leave her footsteps behind with this one too. Ravi Kishan, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastav And Chayya Kadam excelled in their own form of art. From the emotions of the scenes to the dialect of the state , no one could've pulled it better. Kiran Rao kept the script as grounded as possible throughout. Film Review🎬 Civil War "Civil War," the latest film from Alex Garland, proved to be quite different from my expectations. Rather than the dystopian tale of America torn apart by civil strife that I anticipated, the film immerses us in the midst of an ongoing conflict or perhaps its aftermath, following a group of journalists. I found the focus on journalists to be a refreshing perspective. While war films often center on soldiers, medics, and commanders, journalists are less frequently portrayed. However, while this perspective intrigued me, I felt that the film didn't fully capitalize on its potential. Much of the film felt slow-paced, and while this conveyed the tragic futility of war, it left me wanting more in terms of character development and narrative momentum. I struggled to fully understand the characters' motives, and their somber demeanor added to the film's overall bleakness. One standout character was Wagner Moura's portrayal of Joel, who injected some much-needed vibrancy into the narrative. I found myself wishing for more exploration of his character and storyline. Despite these shortcomings, the film had its strengths. There were moments of palpable tension and anticipation, particularly leading up to pivotal events, and the sequence depicting the attack on Washington was masterfully filmed and felt alarmingly realistic. From a technical standpoint, the cinematography, particularly the shots interspersed between action scenes, stood out as a unique and inventive concept. The camera work added depth to the storytelling and enhanced the overall viewing experience. While "Civil War" had its merits, it ultimately fell short of its potential. Despite solid action and visual effects, it left me feeling that there was more to be explored. It's a decent film with room for improvement. The sound effects were particularly notable, adding to the film's immersive quality. Overall, "Civil War" offers an intriguing premise and some compelling moments but left me longing for a more fully realized exploration of its themes and characters. Rating: 7 out of 10 #CivilWar #FilmReview

"Challengers’ strength is in its casting," writes City A.M.'s film editor, Victoria Luxford. "Zendaya’s is the most complex character – indeed it is perhaps the most intricate role of her young career. She is not there to be fought over by men, even if they do try. Instead, she is a driven, unapologetic taskmaster whose love for the game is greater than that for either player." 🔗 Tap the link in our bio for the full review #challengers #zendaya #films #movie #entertainment #sport #tennis #review #filmreview #cityam

Super excited for the second season of this new @falloutonprime series!!! The wasteland is brutal and unforgiving, that much is reflected in the plethora of various ways you can lose your life while innocently strolling around it. But what I didn’t expect is to laugh my butt off at the sheer amount of whimsical stupidity that happens in the desolate landscapes of post-apocalyptic America. Took me back to the hours and hours of endless exploration I put in when playing the games and encountering the wildest and weirdest shit ever. Manages to weave an entirely new story that patiently reveals the conspiracy that’s at the core of this narrative, whilst staying faithful to and respecting the source material. Loveable characters and thoughtful worldbuilding. Easter eggs and references galore. So much still to explore in future seasons.

@ive_seen_that_film and it's a 4/5 for me. An ace of a film as childhood friends clash over the affections of a former rising tennis star turned coach through the years. So what's it all about? Best friends and tennis partners Art and Patrick meet Tashi Duncan, the child tennis prodigy at a party after the US Open junior championships. Their competitive spirit and friendships are tested as each tries to win her affection. Over time the friendship breaks down between the two best friends, as each goes their separate ways. Fast forward several years later and both find themselves in a local tennis final, which is when we really start to learn the history between the triangle. The obsessive nature of Tashi, now turned coach and her desire to be on the winning team at whatever cost becomes more apparent. Jumping between time frames to tell the back story is a nice, but sometimes confusing element. The final scene will keep you guessing at what happens, but the chemistry between the three is as tense as a grand slam final. A huge thank you @arccinemadaventry for showing this one. One of the most amazing things about the next film we’re covering is that it wasn’t filmed on location- rather it was made on a series of sets in Hollywood that were expertly designed to look like good old London town. The effect is quite miraculous, as it’s both clear that its a set and obvious that it just IS London at the same time. If these visuals don’t give away what we’re covering next, then maybe some music will… episode 8 will be out soon! #immersive #hollywood #setdesign #miseenscene #filmreview #podcast #culturepodcast #newepisode

The penultimate episode of the latest season of @justthethingpod is about my favourite franchise of all time, with a focus on Fast 7 as it's the one where Kurt Russell's character is introduced. We also enlist the expert opinion of filmmaker @rossboyask to help unravel what makes these ridiculous films so appealing, and of course, to imagine what would they would be like if the creature from The Thing was added to the mix. Rebel Moon – Part 2: The Scargiver – 2024 Dir. Zack Snyder Never have I felt like a movie has wasted my time than this. So, in response, this review is going to be short because I don’t want to waste yours either. The only good: the acting was okay (despite the script), the villain (while cliché) was fun to watch, and the cinematography and CG looked good. Everything else was awful. The story is bland, cliché and filled with utter rot. The characters didn’t mean anything, even with a couple of “meaningful” sacrifices thrown in. They had zero development other than a half-assed circle-jerk halfway through when Snyder realised he needed to give them a reason to be there. Up until that point, including Part 1, there had been no context for these characters. There was too much unnecessary, pointless slow-mo, too little effort given to the story and characters, and absolutely zero care for the overall craft. If this is what Zack Snyder thinks makes good sci-fi and filmmaking, I'm honestly shocked that Man of Steel was at least as half decent as it is. He wants to make more set in this universe, and I hope to God he doesn’t. Watch this film if you want to have some background noise, not if you want to be entertained. *Please remember, people are allowed their opinions. Running Scared(2006) Directed by Wayne Kramer. Starring: Paul Walker and Vera Farmiga Plot: Its plot follows a low-ranking mafioso who is ordered to get rid of a gun used to kill corrupt cops only to find himself in a race against time when the murder weapon falls into the wrong hands. The cinematography, acting, and blending of film genres will leave you captivated throughout its 122-minute runtime. It is fast-paced and intimate. Govardhan (@thedeverakonda), a devoted middle-class individual, juggles the multifaceted responsibilities of his family, prioritising their welfare over personal desires. His life takes an intriguing turn with the arrival of Idumati (@mrunalthakur), an Anthropology student, setting the stage for unexpected developments. How does Govardhan’s life change after meeting Indu, and how does he end up in the US? Family Star, eagerly awaited and directed by Parasuram Petla, stars Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur. The film unfolds as a leisurely-paced family drama, underpinned by strong performances but marred by a lacklustre writing and narrative execution. The movie commences promisingly, establishing its characters well and endearing them to the audience. The central concept—that every generation harbours a star destined to alter the family's course—is intriguing. However, the story falters in execution, particularly post-interval, as the narrative plummets, diminishing its emotional appeal. Vijay Deverakonda excels as the relatable yet complex Govardhan, while Mrunal Thakur charms in both dramatic and light-hearted scenes, sharing notable chemistry with Deverakonda in the film's initial half. Although Parasuram extracts commendable performances, he struggles to weave these into a compelling, emotionally resonant narrative. The portrayal of Govardhan's familial conflict with his elder brother, lacks nuance and feels hurried. The depiction of the protagonists' life in the US, including the rapport between the lead pair, also leaves room for improvement. Supporting actors like Jagapathi Babu, Vasuki, Abhinaya, and Vennela Kishore contribute effectively within their roles, with Kishore providing comedic relief as Smarth.___contd. #filmreview #southindianmovies #tollywood #thefamilystar #vijaydeverakonda #mrunalthakur #romcom #feelgood #primevideo

"Boy Kills World" (2023) Dir: Mortiz Mohr  Stars: Bill Skarsgard, Jessica Rothe, Michelle Dockery, Famke Janssen, Sharlto Copley, Brett Gelman, Isaiah Mustafa, and Andrew Koji  Produced by: Nithibah Pictures, Hammerstone Studios, Raimi Productions, and Vertigo Entertainment  Distributed by: Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions  Runtime: 1H 51M  Rated: R  RT Score: 75%  Thoughts: I was very excited to watch this. From the trailer alone, it looked a lot of fun. Plus, Bill Skarsgard is ridiculous talented individual, love Jessica Rothe from the Happy Death Day movies, and Sam Raimi is one of the producers of the movie.  Well, the first 20 minutes started off a bit slow and some parts were a bit predictable. Rather than that, I had an amazing time with this, it was a blast. Bill Skarsgard was pretty awesome. You know, he is such an amazing actor, he doesn't need any dialogue. Plus, I really enjoyed watching Jessica Rothe in this and it is great to see Famke Janssen.  And love all the action sequences, they were outstanding. Especially when he uses his inner voice, love the humor throughout this movie.  Overall, this is a fun, entertaining movie.  Grade: B  #boykillsworld #movie #film #cinephile #cinema #review #2023 #2024 #moviereview #filmreview #moviebuff #filmbuff #movieaddict #filmaddict #movielover #filmlover #moviecritic #filmcritic #moviecommunity #filmcommunity #billskarsgard #jessicarothe #famkejanssen #samraimi #lionsgate #roadsideattractions #action #comedy #thriller

Cinema, as I have reiterated time and again, is a sum total of many things put together. A solid story, earnest performances, taut editing, good cinematography and so on. Then there are those technical elements of art design, costumes, location, makeup et al. In short, a different ball game that not everyone is deft at. So, when I see fledging cinema bloggers applauding movies that fail on the above counts but trash some films just because they serve well wrapped propaganda I am disheartened by how myopic their understanding of cinema is. To call out distorted narratives is one thing but to negate good work just on the basis of that is unfair. Just like pushing something because it fits a certain ideological bent. This goes against the very tenet of art. I would rather that the audience is helped to gauge the viciousness and steer clear off it yet pat a good film because of the way it's made and the performances it was embellished with. If you ask me to make a list just based on these, I have so many names in mind. Joydeep Mukherjee's Adv Achinta Aich, a well laid out courtroom drama, is a recent addition to it. Great story ornamented by able performances. Honestly, the combination of Ritwick Chakraborty and Saswata Chatterjee is a hook here. To see the chemistry between these immensely talented actors on screen should propel any cinema lover to this series. But here's a catch. Chatterjee let's Chakraborty stand out by making himself go subtle. You don't need to focus on anyone but these two in this series. Chakraborty is the underdog with just the right amount of wit lacing his persona that makes him delightful to watch. Do note the unassuming way he carries himself till that spark of self assured confidence hits his vein. Chakraborty does it with a style and flourish. @ritwickchak_ @saswatachatterjeeofficial

Review Blankman 1994 DVD Rating: 4/5 Blankman is a silly take on the vigilante hero that’s funny in its own right without outstaying its welcome. This film was met with critical disdain on its initial release and I think it plays much better now. Filmmaker Mike Binder switches to comedy-parody from his previous films focused on character drama. Marlon Wayans at this point was attempting to find the right material for the leading character, but this would mark him down after the minor success of Mo’ Money. The film would prove to be a commercial disappointment and critics had no idea what to make of it. The superhero parody concept was anything new with Hero at Large being one of the few memorable ones, but none of them had been commercially successful. This film had the unfortunate task of opening one month after Jim Carrey’s The Mask grew into a huge box office and cultural sensation. I found this to be an underrated comedy that takes chances and the sequence with the mayor takes this in a more grounded direction. It’s enjoyable when you run with it and Wayans is certainly committed to his performance. This was a bold choice for everyone and sadly it never found a bigger audience. Certainly a film ahead of its time. #blankman #1994 #moviescene #moviecollector #filmcollection #filmcollector #bluray #bluraycollection #bluraycollector #blurayaddict #blurayjunkie #bluraymovie #dupreewenttothemovies #DVD #filmcommunity #moviescenes #filmreview #filmlover #movielover #physicalmedia #filmreview #movierecommendation #moviescene #review #cinema #movienight #movietime #marlonwayans #davidalangrier #jasonalexander #robingivens #mikebinder

Directors: Cameron Cairnes, Colin Cairnes Run Time; 1h 32 min Genre: Comedy/Horror The film takes place in 1977, on the set of the fictitious American late-night talk show 'Night Owls.' David Dastmalchian delivers a very believable performance as a 70's late night talk show host. All of the cast does a great job and their chemistry helps to sell this story. The production design and the wardrobes are also well done. The concept and execution is excellent and creative. The problem that this movie has is that the ending should have been more convincing. The finale purposefully breaks the format in an effort to be extra scary that kind of backfires. Still, the film's ability to invoke both its general setting and all the hallmarks of late night TV is genuinely impressive and its watchable. Detroit Rock City (1999) - My Rating: D #MovieReviews This is a film that many of my friends like, and I think because they saw it when they were young that may be the reason they love it. If I saw this as a teen it may be a nostalgia trip for me, but watching it now… meh. I’m not a fan of Kiss, but thankfully the film is filled with great music from other bands. The comedy for the most part falls flat, only giving me handful of chuckles. The characters are very over the top, except for Natasha Lyonn, Sam Huntington, Melanie Lynskey, and a few other side characters. It’s no wonder they’re still acting to this day. By the way, what is Edward Furlong doing these days. I found myself going back and forth on his character. I don’t know, I can understand why some love this movie, but I just found it mediocre. I’ll stick with my Dazed and Confuseds, and Empire Records. One final thought. Isn’t it wild how Sam Huntington has made an entire career just playing the same character in seemingly every film he’s in? That’s not a dig at him either, I’m a fan. Just a random thought. #detroitrockcity #detroitrockcitymovie #filmreview #filmreviews #moviereview

ANCHAKKALLAKOKKAN (2024) #drama #thriller "Anchakkallakokkan": The movie, which was expected to be good, didn't quite meet expectations only due to its lack of narrative coherence, putting it aside the movie was overall an excellent craft. The director introduced a new methodology to Mollywood by altering the color grading and portrayal of unconventional characters. Set in a fictional village on the Kerala-Karnataka border, where people believe in mystical incidents and beings, the story follows Vasudevan, a rookie police officer who fears everything. Alongside his superiors, he investigates the death of a landlord named "Chappara," leading them to uncover new twists in the case and discover the truth. However, the film suffers from a significant narrative drawback: the director fails to maintain the hero's presence in the midsection. Nonetheless, the movie remains engaging due to its captivating background music, action sequences, and unexpected plot twists. A good appreciation has to be given for the technical team for making the film an engaging one despite of these drawbacks. Bullet Train David Leitch’s ‘The Fall Guy’ is coming out in exactly one week, so to prepare, I watched this. I wanted to get an idea of his style, which I now have a very good idea of. Besides this, I’ve also seen his Marvel stuff, so I have a decent grasp on his idea on how to make a movie, and I’m a pretty big fan. It only makes me more excited for ‘The Fall Guy’, if that’s even possible. But let’s talk about this one. It’s one of my favorite movies ever when it comes to cinematography and lighting. It almost has a John Wick look to it. The constant neon and bright colors really fit the setting and characters. And the best part is that even with the vivid look, there are still some dark, shadowy scenes. The balance was beautiful. The filming also felt extremely smooth. It wasn’t very choppy, especially in the action scenes. Everything flowed very well, which made it enjoyable. The story felt cliche, but it still provided a good time, and some mystery. I wasn’t a huge fan of the pacing, as it felt a little long, and had some weird jumping around. It all makes sense in the end, but as I was going through it, it just felt odd. But not bad by any means. Everything else was just fantastic. The stunts were awesome, the visuals (as I said) were just about perfect, and the performances were strong. I loved the comedic relief from the twins, as well as Brad Pitt. It came very naturally. Overall, the movie was good, though the pacing was a little off and the story felt similar to past movies. But I enjoyed it, and there are some really great cameos. I’d recommend this to all action/thriller fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!

Movie Name: Leo “Despite its shortcoming towards the ending, Leo is still smart action galore, where Lokesh Kanagaraj centers his film Leo with Vikay, who rises to the occasion.” SharpRatings: 7 - #Good From the director and writer of #Kaithi & #Vikram comes another film in his #LokeshCinematicUniverse or #LCU, #Leo. It's about a man, who fights off a drug cartel to protect his family. The film’s story is inspired by #DavidCronenberg’s #AHistoryOfViolence and you can see that in the storytelling however, Lokesh Kanagaraj adds an extra volume and his own set of layers to the character and story. #JosephVijay plays the titular character as he wrestles a drug cartel who says that he was once part of their gang. Vijay is amazing here, like the previous two films it focuses on the main character and hardly has any subplot. The film solely belongs and depends on Vijay and his star value. Like Vikram, Leo is filled with action-filled violent story yet the director manages to add an image of Vijay, a story, and an ending. Lokesh adds a lot of new ideas in Leo while expanding the universe with tid bits such as the entry of Napolean, from Kaithi the moaning girl from Vikram, or the ending phone call from Vikram himself. You can see how everything is taking place nearby, I like that. Like I said the film is action-filled. There are plenty of great sequences, the film opens and introduces the titular character with a CGI hyena running wildly through the town and Partibhan rescues it, the hyena comes back to the story later in the film however action from there keeps on coming and coming especially once gangs come to Partibhan’s town for revenge or once the flashback comes, I enjoyed the single shot fight sequence at the factory, I love single shots and it came out of nowhere. While Lokesh handles action and storytelling, the film did have flaws mainly with the second half of the film where I think it went down in quality as per the first half. Throughout the film, you could see the hard work of the crew be it the cinematography. And the result as expected is top-notch. Anirudh's score has received a lot of mediocre reviews. -CONTINUED IN THE COMMENTS

AUTHOOR wants to recognize in this small post a great one in the field of clothing. To the great Jacqueline West in her work in Dune and Dune part 2. Where she shows us her skill in creating the textures and types of costumes according to the regions or worlds that the film tells us about and she does it in an exquisite and beautiful way, with each detail and shape that creates in a single piece of clothing. Sequins, chains, and threads in different ways not to mention the different fabrics are what the great West does not wear in the different parts of Dune, something truly impressive. Without a doubt a very strong rival in the awards season and especially in the Oscar of 2025. #filmeditor #filmphotography #film #filmmaking #picture #pictureoftheday #movie #movies #escena #filmschool #filmreview #filmreviews #pictureofthday

LOST SOULZ, the debut feature from writer/director Katherine Propper, isn’t as bleak as its title might suggest. This road trip movie following a group of aspiring rappers and musicians is really about found family, that harmonious connection with someone who knows your truth, even if you’ve just met. David Leitch's latest flick, The Fall Guy, is an ode to stunts, film crews, and the slightly silly world of blockbuster entertainment. The Fall Guy may not be the most memorable time at the cinema, but in the moment, it is certainly one of the most entertaining experiences you can have in 2024. 🌶🌶½ It is somewhat unusual for me to watch it and think that it is about war when the majority of films that fall into this cataclysm are when the horror (zombies) arrive and cannot be eradicated. This film has the vision of being a perverse portrait of what happens to us. Director Garland makes a totally solid and brilliant script that has no cracks or hums. It is a drama or they want to try to make a drama with all the nuances and winks that are required to be a drama and they succeed, but it seemed to me more like a war or survival movie. It is simply the portrait of being a reporter in a war with its risks and difficulties that come with being one. There is not much to say about Dunst, he gave me a performance on par with the script that does not stand out nor is it the other way around, but rather it seemed to me that his performance is captured in a way that I would have liked him to have shined more . A regular movie, but we're just starting the year so we'll see how the harvest goes #filmeditor #filmphotography #film #filmmaking #picture #pictureoftheday #movie #movies #escena #filmschool #filmreview #filmreviews #pictureofthday

Challengers The three main leads are really good and have good chemistry, Zendaya brings a good performance as she seems almost like a mastermind behind, Josh O’Conner plays a really good a hole, Mike Faist plays a feat of a guy not sure of himself. The shots and camera movements are great mainly the pov shots, the tennis match itself is intense, and I like the time jump that structures the story. The ending does kind of drag as I was ok get on with it, and some moments and writing that felt lifetime. Overall it’s was a lot better than I thought as I originally didn’t had any real desire to see due to how bad the trailer but the reception convinced me to give it shot and it’s a enjoyable train wreck of a roller coaster. 8.5 out of 10 #challengers #moviereview #filmreview

#Challengers (2024) Stars: Mike Faust, Josh O’Connor, Zendaya. Directed by Luca Guadagnino. Rating:🥈 Following a recent losing streak, promising tennis player turned coach Tashi (ZENDAYA) signs his Tennis star husband, Art (FAIST), into a Challenger event - only for his opponent to be Art’s old tennis friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend, Patrick (O’CONNOR). For anyone going into this film thinking it’s a steamy love fest as the trailer claims, it’s a little more than that. Rather, the film is centred around this one tennis match that may not seem as massive as Wimbledon - but with the ability of non-linear storytelling, we see the building blocks create the conflict and depth of these characters, as well as what’s at stake in this match. We go back and forth in time between the past where Art and Patrick are a great tennis duo with amazing chemistry, around the time when they first set their eyes on the attractive prodigy, Tashi; and the present where they are all at their lowest: whether down on their luck, stuck in a loveless relationship, little satisfaction or success in getting what they desire, and the feeling of hanging by a thread after failing for so long. Along with Faust and O’Connor, Zendaya was great playing these two personalities: one being quirky and full of purpose yet sly and playful in the past, but also the present Tashi who is only married to one of the guys as she is more cold and only sticks around with one of them to keep the tennis dream alive following a fatal injury. Furthermore, the editing is well utilised with the fast pace and intensity for the majority of the main match. I also loved the soundtrack from Ross and Reznor, especially during intense moments like a certain fight that happened seconds after two people made out - all in one take. However, there were a few filmmaking choices that I do have doubts with, like the POV camera of the tennis ball flying around during the match, and the back-and-forth non-linear storyline when it became a little too constant for my liking. Overall, I still enjoyed it for the deep characters in this love triangle over a tense tennis match. #filmreview

Just such a bad movie. I saw the trailers and was skeptical, and my assessment was correct as the final product was not good. One of my main issues with this film is the lack of effort in almost every department but mainly the writing department. It feels like a very weak and predictable rom com without really trying to do anything different from others that came before it. Some of the main story points are a little questionable as well and stretch pretty thin for the audience to try and believe it. The main reason for why all the character stuff has happened is also stretched thin and could have easily been solved with the proper communication. The plot is also just so predictable that I couldn’t really invest myself fully into the film because I constantly knew what was going to happen next, and it wasn’t really exciting for me. The creative choices for this as well are also a little questionable, and I was wondering why a lot of the moments were really in there. For one specific thing, it also does a really bad job of having the audience be informed of what has happened. The writing for me at least tends to lean into a lot of those cliches and go way overboard with certain moments that I just was wondering what was going on and who approved the script. The pacing also felt so long for me and that it was just filled with unnecessary moments that were taking up the runtime. The characters in this are also so weird, even the main two who I couldn’t imagine how they could get together and all the other characters just feel one note to me and are part of the cliches. The acting for me is also a little off-putting here as it's mixed with a lot of tones that really don’t match up well, and even in other moments, it is so unconvincing. I do have some positives with this film. Some of the comedy did work well in this film and had me laughing. Along with Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeny having good chemistry in some scenes. Overall, a romance film that I was not a fan of. #movies #films #review #moviereview #filmreview #cinema #filmcommunity #2023
