Movie Review - Somewhere in Queens is a drama/comedy that has a little comedy and a lot of drama. The comedy feels a lot like laughing at some humor found in a sad situation.
Ray Ramona plays a guy you feel bad for and frustrated with at the same time. He does stupid things for understandable reasons. This is very much the story of a man’s dysfunctional family and the impact it has on his life. It’s full of moments that are uncomfortable to watch because the family drama feels very real. The toxic traits of different characters keep the problems coming. But amidst all the jealousy, insults, and mistakes, there is a heartwarming story.
There’s an honesty and realness to this story. The fears, anxieties, and insecurities of the characters may hit close to home. It shows well how shaped people are by their experiences and how we can unintentionally hurt others out of the hurt we carry. It’s a good lesson about demanding more out of ourselves, while being more gentle with others, which is often the opposite of what people do. I’m preaching now, but this is one of those movies that makes you feel things. It’s full of sad people in sad situations.
If you want to watch something that might be relatable and revealing, Somewhere in Queens is an excellent drama that will likely draw you in.
