I had a fantastic Halloween yesterday with my longtime friend @tracybongi of @the_bayway639 at my favorite Thai Restaurant @bonpalay I met Tracy years ago at a @lesliesbrocco seminar, Tracy was just starting out in wine and I was getting heavily immersed. We haven’t seen each other in years, she’s so fun to talk to and it’s great to see her doing so well. I was craving some @bonpalay so I stopped in for a quick dinner. Paired a Sandlands Chenin Blanc that was singing with personality. Also got to meet Palay’s sister visiting from Thailand in photo 5. • • Mike started me out with something new, a garlic chive spring roll photo 2, easily the best spring I’ve ever had. Then some chicken satay with their amazing peanut dipping sauce photo 3. I brought two of my favorite restaurants together last night with a visit of Palay and Mike of @bonpalay to @parkplace_nj to meet @_francesca_venti and Chef Phil. We had an amazing dinner and fantastic wine. • • I brought a bottle of 2008 @castellomonsanto Chianti Classico Riserva @charinetan and Matt of @exoticwinetravel gave me, I knew they’d appreciate that I shared it with Mike and Palay after they enjoyed their visit to @bonpalay so much. • • We so much delicious food including my first skate at Park Place, Chef Phil cooked it in bone marrow with morels. I’m always excited to see what @svzotti is going to bring to one of our BYOB get togethers. She has a fantastic palate for finding some real gems, and not just Italian wine. • • @bonpalay she brought this delicious 2017 @witherswinery El Dorado County Rosé. It’s 51% Mourvèdre and 49% Grenache. This is one of the best Rosé I’ve had all year! Not just for the refreshing flavors I look for on a warm day, but beautiful complexity and a long finish. This wine definitely has me ready to try more of their wine. • • We had a amazing time at Bon Palay, Mike and Palay went all out to make our visit delicious and educational. Sandra is so much fun! A 4+ Hour rainy day Tuesday Lunch at @bonpalay with @drewdmat, who introduced me to the incredibly delicious + very authentic “Country Thai Comfort Food” passionately cooked, delivered, and explained by owners/chefs Mike + his Thai wife Palay. The curries are particularly outstanding, and the stories behind each make them taste even better. Drew always brings exceptional wines to showcase and pair, and the unique Orange Wine by ‘Le Brutal de Jean Marc’ (2016 unfiltered Pinot Gris by Natural winemaker Christian Binner) was especially enjoyable with Gaeng Fuktong Kati (pictured), a #Spicy, Savory, + subtly Sweet Red #Curry dish with #Kabocha #Squash, #Chicken, Roasted #RedPeppers, caramelized Onions, Thai #Basil, Coconut Milk, Lime, and superb #Riceberries, a deep purple whole grain #rice variety from Thailand. . . The drive to Manville, NJ (~30 minutes North of Princeton) was certainly worth the time, and I look forward to returning on a hot Summer afternoon for Rainbow Summer Rolls, shredded Papaya Salad, Penang Curry, and Mike’s soon-to-be released homemade Rice Noodles. . . A recommendation by @vinojeff @vervewine , this very good value Weiser-Kunstler Riesling from the Mosel was a nice pairing with the Pad Mee Korat @bonpalay • • This wine took me by surprise because at 10% ABV the perception of RS was lower than I expected. Instead the mineral flavors and the acidity are what stood out. This is actually the style Riesling I really enjoy with sushi. Another amazing meal @bonpalay with @dawnathea and some really good wine including #Miani Rosso, a very special parting gift from @exoticwinetravel , and a really nice @stagsleapwinery #Viognier that from Dawn. Palay and Mike tried some new dishes that were all fantastic from start to finish. The incredible balance of flavors in the food at #BonPalay naturally is appreciated by those that love balance found in good wine too.
