Mama Aisa is de oermoeder, de moeder der moeders, de moeder der vaders, moeder van ons allen. De sokkel werd gemaakt van ons materiaal Emerald Green van Ceydium by Mediterraneo Surfaces, met een plint van Belgisch Hardsteen. 𝘒𝘢𝘣𝘳𝘢 𝘉𝘭𝘶𝘦: A fusion of art, culture, and Winti tradition These sculptures by Boris van Berkum, crafted from earthenware and adorned with gold lustre, are made in the form of a set of elaborate lidded vases with tin glaze and hand-painted details. Van Berkum is currently working on ‘Neo Afro, Winti 3D’, in which he assists Winti priestess Marian Markelo to revive and reintroduce mask-dancing and sculpture in the Winti religion and rituals. Winti is an Afro Surinamese religion that developed during transatlantic slavery. The big molds for Boris van Berkum are finished and the result came out fine. The are packed in the support molds and send to Heinen Delfts Blauw in Putten. There the molds will be used to cast the porcelain pieces. And of course, painted in Delft Blue. Releasing the plaster mold part from the styrofoam mold. Because of the structured milled contra mold, it got pretty much stuck to the surface. Preparing both of the shapes to be casted in plaster. All the seams are closed with plasticine so there is no chance of little chips breaking off at the edges of the moulds. Het ultieme doel is een representatie van deze Godin op straat, in Rotterdam én Amsterdam Zuidoost. Het liefst in de vorm van een beeld van minstens 1m50 hoog; wie weet zelfs 2 meter. In de tussentijd zijn er kleinere multipels gemaakt - die via verkoop idealiter bijdragen aan (een deel van) de financiën nodig voor het grotere straatbeeld. From April 15-July 30 our exhibition called Cross Works is running. The title derived from the collaboration of between the artists we invited and the artists/assistants they worked with during their time in our hall. Along the way artists get inspired by each other’s way of working or materials. This Friday artist @Boris_van_berkum will present his Mother Aisa (Mother Earth) from the Winti Culture.
