Ancestral Lineage Healing is relational in that it is about tending to our relationship with our ancestors. It is rooted in animist sensibilities that recognise that, by the very nature of our existence, we are in relationship with and connected to the world around us—human and non-human. Dr. Samsul Maarif, an Indonesian academic who studies indigenous animist communities in Indonesia, says that in these communities, being in relationship means asking, “How can I benefit you?” According to him, being of benefit to one another means having effective reciprocity and practising rituals of relationality. He says that healing is reconnection, and it is rituals that help us remember our connection. Being in relationship means that we have a responsibility for our part in the relationship. By being accountable for how we show up in our relationships, human and non-human, and asking how we can benefit those we are in relationship with, we benefit as well. A service I am honoured to perform. I live across the road from a cemetery, I walk it often and always acknowledge its inhabitants, both those passed beyond, and also its living natural creatures and plants. I collect rubbish and pick up branches often, and at this time of year as the veil thins, I like to clear the graves of debris, choosing those that I'm drawn too, those that seem long forgotten. I refresh them and scatter them with rose petals and lavender. Today's resting place is one of a little girl, just 5 years old, who passed beyond in 1954. So young to exit this life, but her memory and her journey have been marked again today. The Rose is such a loving bloom and utilised to celebrated the living and send sympathy at death, she is also well versed at rambling in wild places and is aligned to hidden mysteries.....I could not find much information about this little one, she is a mystery but I am sure she was well loved all those years ago. If you are reading this and have farewelled a child, my heart goes out to you. I hope you are well supported. So much love. May the dead be honoured. May we remember the gift of life and appreciate each day we are offered. A new, tiny little episode is out on my Salt and Sage podcast. This thirty-first conversation is all about the shifts that are happening in my readings and it’s very, very cool. My nana ji (maternal grandfather) Shri Madan Lal Bakshi was from Zaffarwal Lahore and after partition they had to leave everything behind. I am sure many of you have similar stories of partition. And you must be aware that how important it is to release and heal those memories. ❤️🩹 We grew up listening to those stories and today the moment I stepped on the land of my ancestors I could feel all the blessings of my ancestors wrapping me around. My mother was continuously texting me the names of places she could remember which she heard from her father and grandfather and their names so I could remember them and acknowledge them mentally. It was something. Something only you experience when you visit the lands where you have genetic memories. Did you know in our subconscious, there is a level of beliefs called “Genetic Level” where beliefs are carried over from ancestors or added to the genes of this lifetime. These beliefs are energies stored in the DNA that go seven generations back. The genetic level has important information passed down from our ancestors, such as knowledge of virtues, survival, and even from their position in our past, where they are still trying to fix the problems they had in life. The slave holder & the enslaved she cooked the meals,she washed, she taught the young ones, she did it all. She was the Mother to those who had no mother. . More than likely she practiced Hoodoo, she was a conjure woman, root worker, & a very spiritual woman. Tonight, at sundown, Samhain begins. The sacred time of dark autumn, ancestors, and spirits. When we connect with our past and history, and welcome the time of rest & patience. Samhain is the end of warm light, and the beginning of cool dark. In most parts of Australia, Samhain looks very different to the typical snowy, bare-tree, crunchy autumn leaf affair of the Northern Hemisphere. For me, Winter is highly productive BECAUSE I’m resting. I get more done since the burn out of Summer is behind me. 💀 Our gardens are still lush. We still have flowers blooming. Our winter vegetables are growing freely. Winters not as barren a time down here as it is up north. Rather, our Summer is! While it’s fun to use the Northern Hemi aesthetic, I encourage you to still look at your own surrounds, and community. Being a pagan & a witch means you’re part of where you are. So connect with that, and honour the spirits here already. There’s voices chattering on the wind. Your moments of intuition & divination are likely heightened, or even crowding you. That’s normal. Before and after shots are always satisfying. I gravitate towards the children as some of the first stones to clean in a cemetery, as they would have no direct line who could care for them. Many gravestones of children will have a carving of a lamb, which represents innocence. I also like to think that their parents are watching over giving me their blessing. BLESSED SAMHAIN WITCHES 🎃 Traditionally celebrated on April 30th- May 1st in the Southern Hemisphere, Samhain marks the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter or the darker half of the year. Samhain is a time of reflection, death and rebirth 🥀 This is the time when the veil is at it’s thinnest between the worlds of the living and the dead. The powers of divination and supernatural communication are strengthened on Samhain night, and it is considered a powerful time to communicate with lost loved ones 👻 Pagans celebrate Samhain as an acknowledgment that without death, there can be no rebirth. It is common for witches to prepare a feast for the dead on Samhain night, when offerings of food and drink are left for the spirits. Candles or lanterns are traditionally burned at each window of the house to guide friendly spirits home and keep away unfriendly souls 🕯 At Samhain, the darkness increases and the Goddess reigns in her powerful aspect of the Crone. You wouldn’t believe me if I told you all what happened already in 2022. I feel like these past 3 months have been a year of changes, growth, and challenges. Anyone else? A four-week trip to get out of the Maine winter turned into a ten-week pilgrimage up and down the entire east coast of the United States that resulted in; ✨my business model radically shifting ✨the selling off over HALF of my marketing agency ✨birthing FIVE new lines of revenue and having to hire a ton more people ✨having a whole new level of love and respect for my husband ✨changing my prices and redefining my worth ✨bringing my college best friend on board to help implement all that’s flowing through me ✨clarifying what it is that I want out of life ✨being more intentional with my time ✨learning how to trust other people at a cellular level Now, I could stop this post here; telling you only the beauty that happened so far in 2022… embracing the highlight reel social media has turned into. Or I could also let you know that so far this year I’ve also experienced; ✨a borderline mental breakdown with me crying on a beach in Jacksonville, Florida ✨losing full-time childcare ✨disagreements, a.k.a all out screaming matches, with my husband on several occasions ✨sleepless night of me crying and trying to figure out what’s next ✨crippling anxiety and unworthiness that pushed me to take a 9-day ‘mental health vacation’ ✨10 more pounds ✨making the decision to stop breastfeeding at 4 months ✨having almost every single client not be able to pay our new rates ✨my basement flooding and a $30k unexpected bill I have a choice of the story I tell. I have a choice of how I tell it. These two pieces come together to make up my reality and thus my view of this year so far. I’d say 2022 is shaping up to be a wonderful year. I’m looking forward to what Source has lined up for the next 8.5 months. Foxglove. Witches’ glove. Dead man’s bells. Fairy thimbles. The flower I’ve been called to for several years and understandably so, as the folklore around this bloom is so rich and rooted in Ancient Celtic tradition and Scandinavia (where my ancestors come from on my fathers side). In Norse folklore, it was said that Fox’s would wear the flowers around their necks; the ringing of the bells was a magical protection against those who hunted them. In Scotland (my mothers family is from the northern most Highlands of Scotland), placed the leaves around the cradles of infants for protection against bewitchment. In either culture, foxgloves are beloved by fairies, elves and woodland spirits and the folklore offers so many more stories. Would not be wise to bring foxglove within the home for fear of upsetting the fae-folk. The bees love foxglove and is an important member of the garden, but I would advise only handling foxglove if you’re aware of the precautions one must take with such a flower and always be respectful.
