Casual 5am ambulance ride 🤦♀️ Rosies had a nasty cough which took a bit of a turn. After 2 nights of about 2hrs sleep, early hours of Thursday morning Rosies Sat's machine kept alarming for low blood oxygen. Generally we like to see it above 95.. 90-94 we monitor.. below 90 requires some action. I know this, but I sat and questioned myself for 20 minutes or so before I decided enough was enough and made the call. In true Rosie style, once the paramedics arrived and she was awake, she was able to maintain her oxygen levels.. but given that she couldn't keep those levels safe while she was asleep they decided it was best to bring her in. Once she was in and settled it was clear I had made the right call as her oxygen started dropping again. After a nebuliser and some oxygen she managed to get a little sleep, before waking up at 8.45am. She very quickly started to spike a fever. Her temperature shot up to 40C, she was shivering and shaking, limbs turning purple and mottled. That very quickly sent her into a 6 minute tonic clonic seizure where she required midazolam to bring her out. I know she has epilepsy, I know I see her have frequent seizures in varying types and presentations, but having your 2 year old suddenly start violently jerking in your arms has got to be up there with some of the most terrifying things in the world. I think it was probably worsened by us being in the same room we were in when she had her prolonged 1hr seizure back in June. It just brought it all back and it was very hard to squash the feelings of panic and fear. Luckily the seizure resolved with the emergency meds and she had a very quiet, sleepy rest of the day. Today she has been so much brighter. We've had lots of smiles and giggles and a good appetite for food (although getting enough fluid in is definitely a focus for tomorrow!). We are still in hospital as she needs supplemental oxygen while she's sleeping, but I'm hopeful she will be well enough for us to go home in a day or 2! #adenovirus #chestinfection #nebuliser #epilepsy #infantepilepsy #grandmalseizures #seizuressuck
