Running makes everything better! Midrun- frustrated with feeling weak and the blinding sweat- I met a trail angel. A mom asked me how I was as I passed by- my answer was "Sweaty. How are you?". The mom replied, "Wonderful". Then the angel appeared- a tween girl with the most beautiful smile told me "Good job!" with a thumbs up. The genuine gesture was EVERYTHING I needed in that moment. ❤ Running so underfueled, weak and exhausted strengthens my ultra endurance base- a neccessary evil. 🌬️ Nerdy Respiratory stats🏃♂️💨 Reflecting on my journey 4 years ago, I was engaged in mouth breathing, covering 6km in 30 minutes within the FAT burning zone, with a heart rate averaging 146 BPM and 26 breaths per minute. However, recent advancements paint a starkly different picture. Fast forward to today's regimen of the same 6km distance and time, still in the FAT burning zone, but with notable improvements. With an average heart rate of 141 BPM and only 18 breaths per minute, Nasal Breathing, the reduction in dead space from 5.2L to 3.6L per minute is striking.(see below for the MATH)z This shift equates to a staggering 240 times less contraction of my diaphragm in 30 minutes and an additional 48L of gas exchange in my alveoli. It requires slightly more breath volume per ventilation cycle, this transformation of extra volume has other benefits to be told on another post but all of this has incredible potential of optimizing respiratory efficiency for longevity, health, and athletic performance. Chronická obštrukčná choroba je multifaktoriálne ochorenie, ktoré ako už dávno vieme, neznamená len "fajčiarske pľúca". Existuje mnoho rizikových faktorov rozvoja tohto ochorenia, či už ide o spomínaný nikotinizmus, znečistenie ovzdušia, časté respiračné infekcie v detskom veku, expozícia chemikáliám a iné. Jednou z príčin vzniku CHOCHP, špeciálne u mladých ľudí vo veku do 40 rokov môže byť geneticky determinovaný stav, pri ktorom pozorujeme nedostatočnú tvorbu tzv. alfa-1-antitrypsinu v bunkách pečene. Jeho hlavným pôsobiskom sú pľúcne alveoly a slúži ako ochrana proti enzýmom- proteázam. Existujú rôzne stupne poškodenia či už pľúc alebo pečeňového parenchýmu v závislosti od konkrétneho genotypu. Na tento typ ochorenia musíme myslieť práve u mladších vekových kategórií, u ktorých rozvoj "expozičnej" alebo teda "fajčiarskej" CHOCHP nie je typický. Abúzus cigariet v kombinácii s deficitom A1AT však dokázateľne urýchľuje nezvratné poškodenie pľúc. Pri potvrdenom ťažkom deficite A1AT je indikovaná tzv. augmentačná liečba, čiže podávanie purifikovaného koncentrátu humánneho A1AT do žily v pravidelných intervaloch.Veľmi dôležitou súčasťou liečby je prevencia a liečba nikotinizmu, štandardná liečba CHOCHP bronchodilatanciami, prípadne inhalačnými kortikosteroidmi, prevencia a liečba akútnych exacerbácií ochorenia. Ochorenie je progresívne a v posledných štádiách sú často pacienti odkázaní na dlhodobú domácu oxygenoterapiu, chirurgické odstránenie emfyzematónych búl (obrovských "bublín" v pľúcach), prípadne sú indikovaní na transplantáciu pľúc. Oh my goodness gracious the duck drama... Hence the expressive selfie 😆 A scripted tv show doesn't have more drama action! Swipe for some videos- several of ducks, one of turtles, a trail toad (I almost stepped on him while running!), and my newest backyard squirrel, "Chester. ❤ Met a fisherman today who really likes Donald ❤ He asked for the scoop and so I shared- and now Donald has another protector! As I left for my run- all 3 white ducks chased after me while quacking! The fishing dude was shocked to see the bully duck running after Donald- and he chased the bullies away! ❤ Donald and the Daisys' gave the dude a loving look and sat down happily. ❤ The shocked look on the fishing guy's face as the ducks all climbed on, around, and over me was hilarious- and the way I wouldn't let Drake & Elvis (bully ducks) attack the others was even more shocking 😆 😂 ❤ There is a photo of a mallard male- he is "baby" and his head goes between green and purple! Also the one Drake attacked in the video. 🌟 Unfortunately- my sinus headache became a bad flu at 5:30 last night. Spiked fever, nausea, full body aches. Tried to take ibuprofen and triggered vomiting 😵 But being in bed from 5:30pm until 9:50am means I finally got some sleep between the barks of the dozen dogs next door. My muscles needed the sleep! ❤ My run today was so incredibly rough- swear my sweat was triple the norm. Praying I feel better tomorrow.
