International Women’s Day allows me to reflect on raising these two incredible beings. Growing up when my Mom was annoyed with me, she would say, “I hope you have daughters just like you”. I can’t tell you how glad I am that I did. These two are a chip off the old block, yet incredibly independent with wonderful personalities of their own. They have taught me more about myself than I could ever have imagined. Becoming a Mom at the age of 25, allowed me to grow up alongside them, learn from my parenting mistakes and develop an empathy I didn’t know was in me. One graduates high school this year and the other begins her transition into high school. My heart hurts a little every time I reflect on how fast time has gone by and is elated at the same time to follow their journey to becoming an unstoppable, female force. All I wanted was to feel better - mentally, physically, energetically - you know, the usual stuff that comes with the realization you’re not 16 anymore 🤪. Pharmacy school stress had me stress eating like a kid in a candy store and feeling like I was in survival mode, so I decided (after feeling like I’d tried everything) to go all in with at home workouts. I found the better version of myself I had been longing for along with a kickass virtual community for accountability, resources for mental, physical and nutrition help and many beautiful friendships. Once I thought I had it figured out, pregnancy scares, postpartum, and two major losses led to a very low point in my life. I didn’t recognize myself much anymore and felt lost once again….until I decided to lean back in and focus on finding BALANCE and pursuing mental resilience while I navigate the challenges life throws my way. I know full well that my own health journey and how I run my own accountability groups will be different because I am different. I am more gracious, less focused on perfectionism, and I know it’s not a one-size-fits-all. I am extremely excited to see where this next chapter takes me and those who decide to work on their own health alongside me. It's clarity at its best. 3️⃣ Take Your Time: Felt rushed? It's their urgency, not yours. Slowing down allows clarity and seeking advice from your network. "If you were me, what would you do?" is a powerful question. 4️⃣ Strength in Numbers: Sometimes, bringing a male ally to meetings can make a difference. Two heads are better than one, and it can deter any potential exploitation. 5️⃣ Set Clear Standards: Harassment concerns? Establish & display your expectations. Whether it's site cleanliness or trash haulage, clarity is key. 6️⃣ Contract Vigilance: Not all contractors come with pure intentions. Stick to your contract. Understand exit strategies, conflict resolutions, and always prioritize your interests.
