me with my coffee ☕️ taking another break because sometimes the coffee has more to teach me than the thing I’m trying to work on some reminders for you: - breaks are necessary. you’re doing something right when you take a break. - take small breaks as you come back from a bigger, longer break from working - a break to care for your needs is always a right choice, regardless of whether or not it boosted your productivity afterwards — the resting always mattered and was needed. 🩷 Let me know if you had a favorite slide! @kendallneedscoffee 🖼️ Artwork is Break of the painter in her studio by Édouard Menta #healingfromburnout #antihustleculture #smalljoys #theartofsmalljoys #artists #writers #creativesofinstagram #creativityeveryday #creativityquotes #perfectionism #creativeburnout #poetryofig #poetrylovers #inspiredtowrite #creativeinspiration #healingwithart #creativityheals #creativitycoach #creativewriter #creativecommunity #createmore #creativelife #creativeliving

Let’s talk about the impact of hyper independence on romantic relationships! 💟 While independence is often celebrated, there’s a fine line between healthy self-reliance and hyper-independence. A common theme I see with clients is the struggle to find meaningful connections in the world of online dating, a struggle I know all too well! The reality is, the pressure to do everything on our own seeps into our love lives. From the fear of appearing needy to the discomfort of expressing our needs, hyper independence can create barriers to intimacy and connection. But here’s the truth: it’s okay to desire partnership and support. 💖 Vulnerability is not a weakness—it’s your superpower! ✨ #HyperIndepdence #SelfReflection #HealthyBalance #HyperIndependenceTraumaResponse #TraumaResponse #Vulnerability #TherapyJourney #IntegrativeTherapy #YourPathToHealing #MentalHealth #Therapy #SocialWork #Psychotherapy #AnxietyRelief #Anxiety #Depression #DepressionHelp #Trauma #ComplexTrauma #Grief #Perfectionism #SelfEsteem #SelfCare #Healing

Perfectionism is the cause and the symptom of anxiety. Due to feelings of anxiety and doubt, you may turn to perfecitonism as a coping skill. However, the pressure to do things perfectly only, in turn, exacerbates your anxiety. While there are many ways to manage perfectionism & anxiety, here are three of my favorites: 1️⃣ Do Things Imperfectly: doing things imperfectly is all about the power of your actions because the more you learn to interrupt your perfectionistic patterns and traits, the more you can learn to show up authentically. 2️⃣ Practice Self-Compassion because perfectionists are their worst critics. Perfectionists are not kind to themselves. They always criticize their mistakes. Self-compassion becomes a powerful antidote to perfecitonism, where you respond to mistakes, flaws, delays, and hiccups in a loving, kind, empathetic way. 3️⃣ Connect With Your Inner-Child: learning to unpack the birthplace of your perfecitonism can give you the healing you are looking for. By reparenting yourself, you are learning to care for your inner child, leave the past behind, and have a deep, loving relationship with yourself. #mindfullife #mindfullifestyle #mindfulmovement #mindfulmonday #mindfulmoment #mindfulmoments #perfectionism #perfectionismcycle #perfectionist #recoveringperfectionist #overcomingperfectionism #iamgoodenough #iamenough #iamworthy #selfacceptancejourney #selfcompassion #notperfect #presentmoment#presentmomentawareness #presentmomentliving#liveinthenow #liveinthepresent#gratitudedaily #progressoverperfection#lettingitgo #selfcareisntselfish #selfcareisnotselfish #selfcareissacred #selfcareisimportant #selfcareisforeveryone

First of all, THANK YOU for the amazing show of support yesterday celebrating the anniversary of LTPTY! I hope everyone that snagged a copy enjoys spending a few hours in Roselyn’s world. I know the book isn’t perfect, but I hope that it’s at least good, and encourages introspection and camaraderie among readers. As I’m diving deeper into a new story, I’m trying to keep this in mind as well. It’s so hard to keep writing when it’s not exactly how you want it to be—it’s not perfect. But I want to bring goodness into the world, so I’ll keep going! (Plus, we all know I’m going to do a zillion edits and re-writes anyway 🤪). Happy Monday, friends! Be good! 😉 #monday #mondaymotivation #book #bookquotes #authors #writers #writersofinstagram #writerscommunity #fiction #literaryfiction #ltpty #cinderella #perfectionism

How many of you out there can relate? Maybe people see you as very successful. Or maybe you are everyone else’s rock. Maybe everyone around you says you “do it all!” What people don’t see is the behind-the-scenes process that it takes to appear so high-functioning. Sometimes being a high-functioning human can feel like a bit of a mess, no? You see, there is a healthy zone of being high-functioning in the things that we do. But it can easily creep into toxic perfectionism fairly quickly if we don’t have support, boundaries, and a plan in place. "I would, and I'd love to, but..." ^ I was sick of this being my excuse for so many years. And I hear this from a lot of people, too! The resistance to doing what they love most. Your soul is calling you to do something, take that step, try the new thing -  But all you can think is: "But if I mess up or don't like how it turns out, then it's pointless." So it's better to not even start. (so, so much pain from this. Years of being in paralysis of inaction, dreaming and wishing, but stopping yourself, because your rational mind says it's smarter not to do it...) I've done enough of this work to know that "just do it" doesn't work for everyone. "Just do it!" - "I... can't. I just can't." And freeze. Paralysis. Surrender. 😓 But I've ALSO done enough of this work to know that there ARE ways to overcome this!! SO! Here's 1 way to overcome the internal resistance so you can actually do what you love. (Slide 5) How simple, right? But the key is DOING it. Consistently. Constantly, all day long, switching your thoughts - from the voice of "the other" to your own loving voice. From the cautious voice to the compassionate voice. From the authoritative voice to the encouraging voice. Try it - but give it your all. All day long, switching thoughts. "I can do it. I'm worth it. I'll be so proud of myself. This will feel good. I'm doing this for ME. I'm healing myself." This is important. The world needs your gifts. The only blocks are within you - and you have the power to break them.

#Repost from @psych_today • “If perfection is unattainable and unrealistic, why do so many people strive to achieve it? For many perfectionists, there is an underlying fear that they are not ‘good enough,’ ‘won’t succeed,’ or ‘won’t be loved’ if they don’t strive for perfection. At its core, perfectionism may essentially be an act of disowning our true selves,” writes clinical psychologist Roxy Zarrabi, Psy.D. (@dr.roxyzarrabi). “If you’re struggling with perfectionism, remember that it doesn’t go away overnight and that it takes time to learn how to overcome it.” Here’s how to get started. How do you combat perfectionist tendencies? Let us know in the comments. 💭 Do you know someone who tends to struggle with perfectionism? Do you feel like you’re always running around trying to get ahead? Do you feel exhausted and like you are never doing enough? You might be experiencing burn out and perfectionism resulting from the multitude of daily tasks that pile up and make life feel overwhelming. Motherhood comes with it a barrage of tiny daily tasks (in addition to the big ones) that can send us into a tailspin of constant preparation and planning. But how do you slow down when there is so much to do? The infinite needs of our families are real and being told to “do less” or “slow down” can feel like gaslighting the motherhood experience. There are ways that we can manage our lives differently by improving nervous system regulation and decreasing perfectionistic thinking. Perfectionism in women can be extremely hard to let go of, especially if you had childhood trauma or were always expected to be high achieving. Shifting your perspective into believing that your work is “good enough” may feel like the rug is being pulled out from under you or that your safety is being taken away. Deep breaths Mama, this work takes time and support from a caring support system and professionals who understand. The work will get done and you can enjoy your life and your children. A life that brings you joy, may not look like what you expected. And it can be better than what you ever thought was possible

✨BOOK REVIEW✨ Peace Over Perfection: Enjoying a Good God When You Feel You’re Never Good Enough by Faith Chang 🌿 This book was written for those of us who struggle with guilt and perfectionism in our walk with the Lord. I really appreciated the focus on sanctification and how it’s a process! ”And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.“ ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭1‬:‭6‬ ‭ This was an encouraging read that focused on finding rest in the Lord by knowing His character and who we are in Him. I felt convicted about how perfectionism and guilt has caused me to focus on myself in my walk with the Lord rather than staying focused on trusting God’s love for me and His good plans for my life. Peace Over Perfection will help you to focus on the character of God rather than on your fear of not being good enough. This book is very well-written and Chang is vulnerable and relatable. She incorporates scripture throughout the book, a prayer at the end of each chapter and discussion questions at the end of the book. ✨Favorite Quotes✨ “Because his knowledge of you is complete, you can trust the depths of his love for you” p. 39 “We need to know what God’s law really says so that our consciences can be recalibrated by God’s word.” P. 73 “‘Wonderful is the patience of the Lord, who can bear with us all at once!’ writes John Newton. ‘We, alas, can hardly bear with each other one at a time.’ Newton makes a case here for what I think is one of the biggest reasons why we find it so hard to think of God as patient. His patience surprises us because of how unlike us he is.” P 103 A couple of things I would have changed about this book: 😬When talking about the patience of Jesus the author mentions that Jesus affirmed his disciples. That language sounds very modern and I think could be a problematic way to interpret Jesus relationship with his disciples. 😬I would have left out the quotes by James KA Smith as he does not hold to biblical truth in some areas. Thank you to @thegoodbookcompanyusa for providing me with this copy in exchange for my honest review!

' I never lose, I either win or learn' During our training in med school we see wins a lot more than loses. As an ENT surgeon, the control over outcomes and the rewarding wins of my skillset is all I know best! Processing failure or lack of control?! That's always been a lesson in progress... . . This post is for all my fellow perfectionists who just don't know how to process not being able to show up or losing at something! 😶‍🌫️😶‍🌫️ **Long post alert** I signed up for my yearly tradition of running the #tcs10k marathon with @iamrakeshkamath and followed some trainers( shoutout to @thecookie_runner ) Although the voice in me knew with my past injury and big life events, I would probably not have my PB number but I was focussing on finishing strong like I do every year! The night before the big day, I Pulled my right calf muscle 😔 I wanted to persevere and run regardless but the fact that i couldn't put any weight on it made it very clear that this wasn't my year! 😭 . So instead of locking myself up in a room sulking all day like I would when I have to back down and accept loss of control, I chose to see it with these: 1. Nothing is the end of the world! And chasing perfection at the cost of self loathing is a preposterous concept with more harm than good! 2. Never ever ever strain or do new activities before a run ( yes I'm looking at you- JBN & kodihalli roads of hell that made me trip! 🙄😒) only focus on rest! 3. Allow other people's success to make you happy😊 I spoke to peopleand rejoiced for their successes allowing it to inspire me rather than rant about my misfortune or start the road runner map of how to ace 2025 like I usually would! 🤣🤣 . . So to all the people like me out there... PLEASE.. cut yourself some slack, allow life to unfurl and plans to be ruined only to make you learn and not to discourage and lose hope! The only thing that should be your constant is the belief in self and collecting lessons along the way😇💪 What's your most recent life changing lesson? #strongereveryday #marathontips #tcsmarathon #motivationpost #medico #perfectionism #entdoctor #sportsinjury #motivation #selflove

Do you experience any of these thoughts? Perfectionism can show up in every aspect of our life- work, friends, family, romantic relationships, school, etc. The perfectionism brain can be sneakily saying hurtful comments to you all day and you may not even realize it. Start by identifying your perfectionism and then try compassionate responses like the examples above! Practicing self compassion can be incredibly challenging and may need constant work in calming your nervous system. An interview is your time to look for red flags and try to ascertain whether a role is going to be a good fit for you, based on what you know about what works for you at work, and what doesn’t. Most high achievers approach interviews with one task in mind: land the job. And I’m here for that — I love coaching my clients to help them nail interviews. HOWEVER, you should also use interviews as an opportunity to interview your new potential employer. What really matters to you when it comes to your workplace? It’s more than okay to own that you’re looking for a specific management style or culture - in fact, these questions (when asked with tact) can show that you’re a confident professional who knows what they need to thrive. Scared to ask these questions up front? You can always ask to talk to a couple additional people after receiving an offer, so you can be a bit more direct without as much worry. “The inner critic teams up with the fear of abandonment to self hate & about your imperfections & keeps you in a cage of perfectionism unworthiness, isolation, procrastination& feelings of danger” it is a protector part for emotionally abandoned children and can cause havoc in your success in all areas of your life where it can get as bad as dissociative freeze response. Triggers in everyday working & personal life can bring up the feelings of powerless, unloveable and an unsupported inner child until the trauma is released safely in the body, mind and soul, until such time it will remain in the psyche as a lived experience in the present. Perfectionism is also a safer “part and role” to play than severe punishment for children who are vocal about emotional neglect. #internalfamilysystems #perfectionism #perfectionismrecovery #impostersyndrome #selflove #childhoodtrauma #pastlives #complexptsd #anxiety #traumatherapy #hypnotherapy #spiritualawakening

Here are the techniques I use with my #highachieving #perfectionists. Need more information on what some of these are? I got you... Bare Minimum Mondays: are meant to give you permission to have 1 day per week where you do not 'overdo' or 'overwork'. This is where you slowly ease yourself into Monday rather than jumping into the deep end and trying to complete everything. Choose the priorities and triage what HAS to get done versus what can be managed throughout the week. Rule of 3 & 5: On the days where you have more time (not as many meetings) pick 3 things to accomplish. On the days where you have longer periods of time (less meetings and obligations) pick 5 tasks to accomplish and work on. Instead of burdening yourself with a major task list, picking a few items helps to feel accomplished and reduce burnout. ‘Yes’ Days: Give yourself one entire day per month where you say ‘YES’ to whatever you want to do. If you have a friend or partner who will also support this try it together! 90 minute rule: Acknowledge that our brains give us about 90 minutes of activated thinking. Working in 90 minute increments and then taking a 5-30 minute break will actually increase productivity! Dumpster Fire Trashcan Method: When you’re noticing that someone else is in a negative space and projecting their fears or insecurities onto you, imagine that there is a dumpster/trashcan on fire in between the two of you. Rather than holding onto their issues, imagine that you are putting their projections and fears into the dumpster fire. Self-care can look different depending on the day and the person. For me, self-care does sometimes look like a night in front of the tv or an early morning exercise class. But if I’m doing those things for the wrong reasons (because I’m avoiding my feelings or being a perfectionist) then I can end up dysregulating my nervous system and actually undermining my wellness. Real self-care requires mindfulness. It involves regularly checking in with your mind and body and asking, how am I doing *right now*? What do I need *today* to take care of myself?

YOU ARE A LEADER and yet… The imposter syndrome, anxiety, procrastination, perfectionism, self-doubt, scarcity, overthinking, pushing and striving you experience in your business is keeping you small But you know it wasn’t really meant for you Now here is something you may not know The imposter syndrome, the anxiety self-doubt or procrastination does NOT come from your mind These symptoms are actually a sense of stored alarm, a faulty threat detection system in your brain and body from the unresolved wounds of your childhood To truly create long lasting change, you have to find the source, and that means altering your brain and body’s alarm and threat detection system. This must be intricately and intentionally done by involving the body, nervous system and the subconscious mind. I have spent the last decade refining and refining my proven neuroscience and trauma research based framework to create world-shifting results Because if there is one thing I have always been committed to, it is MASTERY and client results. I am extremely thorough, to the most minute detail, I have a scientific brain AND I challenge EVERYTHING See I don’t follow, I lead And I have always had a very intentional mission, And that is for me to help you access a level of freedom you likely don’t even know exists It is a deep internal grounded and yet explosive experience That in turn transforms your outer world So you can step into your next level of leadership and do all the magical, scary, world-shifting, important things you were made to do in your life and in your business Leaning into scarcity, your not enoughness and moving from burnout, to procrastination, to pushing and forcing your way through your business was never meant for you You were born to lead and create an impact If you are ready for the ride of your life, message me now

Posted @withregram • @healyournervoussystem People with a sensitive nervous system often fall into what I call "The Sensitivity Burnout Cycle". 🌀 When their energy levels are good, they start taking on all the things. They don't realize they are taking on too much, so they overcommit. Eventually, they can't handle things anymore. They feel overwhelmed and stressed: they are burning out. At this point, they withdraw, feeling they have no energy for anyone or anything. They feel alone and end up stuck and apathetic. Or, they do something that makes them feel temporarily better..... and then the cycle starts again. 🔄 This burnout cycle leaves people hopeless that their life will ever change. Does this sound familiar? But with the right treatment modalities - and commitment to do the work - we see sensitive people become more resilient and resolve the burnout cycle. Once they master the power of their sensitive nervous system, they address issues at work and in their personal life: they implement changes in a way that leads them to achieve optimal stimulation and reach their full potential. 🧠 One of our members was suffering with chronic illness caused by burnout. After following our program for just 3 months, she started feeling the benefits and much calmer inside and out! ✨ Instead of just existing and trying to get through every day, they start to feel alive and have more vibrant health and energy. 🔋 Reminder: Doors to the Nervous System Solution are open and will close this Sunday, April 28th ET! You can find all the details in my stories and at the link in my bio. #despreaparari #perfectionism #inadecvare #letstalk #psihoterapie #lapsiholog #psihoterapieonline #danielapaunescupsiholog

⚡️Modern mums are overwhelmed and overloaded - mothering in the absence of a ‘village’, crushed by pressure to be perfect, get it ‘right’ and do it all. . 🌗The more we can share the harder bits with others - sharing our vulnerability and the rich complexity of mothering - the more we blow apart the myth of Supermum & toxic ideas of the endlessly patient, selfless mother. . 💥Let’s keep agitating for change for what mothers really need - dismantling patriarchal structures that continue to oppress us as women. . 🩶Who’s with me? . . #maternalmentalhealthawarenessweek #bethechange

We used to be huge grammar snobs and judged anyone who didn’t have this skill. Then we got older and met people with various other gifts and realized it was myopic to pretend that being a naturally good speller was any more important than being a naturally good woodworker. And yet we’re still posting this post because old habits die hard. And we’re petty. #LetsTalkCandidly 📷: @thecandidly 💬: @oldschoolmommaplus3

You deserve to be seen and felt heard as much as anyone else ❤️ While you are there supporting everyone around you remember that those close to you want to help you too. They see you are struggling in trying to do it all and they know that sometimes it can be hard to get close to you because you are so hyper-independent. But I’m sure if you surrendered and asked for help they wouldn’t see it as a sign of weakness but rather a sign of great strength and honour to help you because it finally means you trust them. Sometimes we don’t see this when we are deep in the trenches of motherhood and career. But just remember we used to be a village and a community helping each other. And we all still yearn for that connection. So let go of control once in a while and you’ll be surprised how many people want to support you.

Child prodigies, exceptional individuals who display adult-level expertise in a particular field before the age of ten, offer a captivating subject for neurological investigation. Advanced neuroimaging techniques like PET scans have shed light on their remarkable memory capacities. These studies suggest that prodigies often utilize long-term working memory (LTWM), enabling them to hold and manipulate complex information relevant to their expertise over extended periods. For instance, prodigies proficient in mathematics may rely on brain areas associated with visual and spatial memory to facilitate rapid problem-solving. Furthermore, neurobiological research has revealed heightened activation in brain regions linked to visual processing and visuospatial working memory in prodigies, particularly in domains such as mental abacus calculation. Vandervert’s theory proposes that prodigies’ unique emotional disposition, coupled with the cognitive functions of the cerebellum, accelerates the transition from visual-spatial working memory to other forms of thought, thus facilitating their exceptional abilities. Debates persist regarding the relative contributions of nature and nurture to prodigious talent, underscored by the co-incidence theory, which emphasizes the interplay of biological, psychological, cultural, and environmental factors in shaping prodigies’ development. Additionally, it’s noteworthy that prodigiousness in childhood doesn’t always ensure adult success, with factors such as effort, perfectionism, and familial traits influencing long-term outcomes. #ChildProdigies #NeurologicalInvestigation #PETScans #MemoryCapacity #LongTermWorkingMemory #NeurobiologicalResearch #VisuospatialMemory #Cerebellum #EmotionalDisposition #NatureVsNurture #CoIncidenceTheory #DevelopmentalFactors #SuccessOutcomes #Perfectionism

We all know that perfectionism is unachievable, but are we aware of how much it limits us in ever feeling good about ourselves? Perfectionism looks like a fear of making mistakes, constant disappointment in oneself, critical self-talk, and procrastination. Perfectionism is often accompanied by a self-critical voice, that keeps us in line with reaching our unrealistic goals. It often developed as a way to cope with potential criticism from others or to feel a sense of approval, acceptance, and love. We often get stuck in our own definition of perfect - what’s perfect to me will look different than what’s perfect to you. So what construct are we actually working towards and exhausting ourselves for anyways? What if we dissected our ideas of being perfect, learning where they came from, and who helped build them? What if we challenged the current beliefs of perfectionism and replaced them with a narrative of working towards, progressing, and being good enough? ❤️❤️❤️ . . #yycmentalhealth #perfectionism #selfcriticism #yycpsychologist #calgarypsychologist

Every now and then, I feel called to share one of my personal experiences. It may be something very small but the learning I take away from it has such a huge impact. I want to share this with you in hopes that you benefit as well. Not only that, I've learned that a couple of the most comforting thoughts I have are... Someone else gets it. Someone else gets me. So here is to me being that someone for you... I'll start with...I am 54 years old. I think I should have this all figured out by now. What exactly is "THIS?" "THIS" refers to LIFE. I should be the perfect manager. I should be the perfect leader. I should be the perfect everything. Being perfect means not making mistakes. Even though I know perfection is unattainable, I still think that I shouldn't make mistakes. What do I equate mistakes with? I'm doing it wrong. I'm not doing a good job. In other words, I'm failing. I'm failing my team. I'm failing my boss. I'm failing myself. So what does failing lead to... DISAPPOINTMENT In my mind, it seems so black and white. Either I'm succeeding OR I'm failing. AND I rarely give attention to when I'm succeeding. BUT stepping back I know failing is just learning. If I'm not failing, I'm stagnating. If I'm not failing I'm not growing. I'm not learning. I'm not evolving. Which means I would be missing out on the human experience. I would be missing out on the opportunity to be a better manager, a better leader, a better individual. We need to redefine our relationship with failure and mistakes. Failure and mistakes do not need to result in disappointment. They can lead to curiosity. And end in evolving. We don't need to have it all figured out. Otherwise, how would we grow and evolve. We would miss out on the ENTIRE human experience. That, my friend, would be the REAL disappointment. #perfectionism #stress #burnout #womeninleadership #managingstress #copingwithstress #mindset #mindsetmatters #burnout #mindsetshift #managingstressatwork #worklifebalance #happy #mentalhealth #stress #women #womenempowerment #empoweringwomen #womenempoweringwomen #womeninleadership #womeninmanagement #leadershipdevelopment
