Allergies are not fun for anyone but when babies have them it feels 100x worse. Not being able to communicate what they’re feeling or what’s happening in their body is so scary. Unfortunately we’ve had to deal with some allergies with Addison already. She has FPIES to dairy and an allergy to egg, which we have an epipen for. FPIES (food protein induced entercolitis) is a gut allergic reaction to foods in infants. Meaning they will get sick if eating something they are allergic to, which is what happened to Addison when trying formula at 4.5 months. Her egg allergy is more severe but came on slower. We introduced her to eggs early on and often. After 5x she had a horrible reaction (rash on cheeks, chin & chest) and extremely itchy. Because of my experience with allergies I freaked out and called 911. The paramedics who arrived were amazing and calmed all of us down but suggested we go to urgent care to get further checked out. Long story short(er), they gave her medicine and sent us home. The SECOND we pulled out of the parking lot she got more sick than I’ve ever seen in my life (if you need tips on cleaning a car seat, I’m your girl 🙃). I felt so terrible for her but after, she seemed SO much better. A few weeks later I took her to the allergist and they confirmed that she did have an egg allergy. We’ve since been to a pediatric dietician as well to make sure she’s getting enough nutrients. After speaking with more people about it my next steps are going to be a blood test (ugh) and ask about doing a food challenge. 🤞🏻 If you have any questions, I’m an open book and happy to try to help as much as possible 🤍 #babyallergies #foodallergy #foodallergymom #girlmomma #fpies #eggallergy #dairyfree #dairyallergy

Did you hear about the latest guidelines for Oral Immunotherapy (OIT) in managing food allergies? It's a game-changer! Dr. Mack at McMaster University, along with researchers around the world, have released new guidelines to help improve OIT. Clinicians now have a robust framework to equip caregivers and patients with the knowledge they need for OIT. One key highlight is the emphasis on adequate parental supervision throughout the therapy journey. The guidelines also help in identifying risk factors that could pose challenges to the use of OIT. It's important to note that while these guidelines provide an invaluable resource, there's no mandatory requirement for their implementation. Let's celebrate this leap forward in food allergy treatment!

Visit my practice website (links in my bio and The FAC’s bio) to learn more and reach out to schedule a session. I have had a shellfish allergy for several years now. I don't remember exactly when it was, but I took an over the counter medication that contained glucosamine chondroitin. After only two days on this medication, my eyes started swelling. I went to my doctor and was diagnosed with an adult onset shellfish allergy. This past October, I was sitting on a towel at the beach, enjoying the day with my family. My feet started hurting and then my hands. I thought it was so odd. I had never had a contact reaction before. By the time I got to the wash down station. I was itching all over. I took some Benadryl after I got washed off and the symptoms went away. It was frightening to realize that my shellfish allergy has progressed to this level. This is an example of how you don't have to ingest what you are allergic to, to have an allergic reaction. Contact reactions are very real and common. This is why it is so important to wash your hands after a meal if someone you love has a food allergy. Be sure to use soap and water or a wipe. Hand sanitizers do not remove the protein that causes reactions. #FoodAllergies #NotADiet #NotAPunchline #FoodAllergyAwarenessMonth #FoodAllergyMom #THMCoachAngela #EattingToLive

We're kicking off Food Allergy Awareness Month by celebrating the inspiring stories behind Every Body Eat®. Our fearless founders, Trish Thomas and Nichole Wilson, didn't just overcome their own food sensitivities—they transformed their struggles into a mission for YOU! 😁 Not long ago, Trish unraveled "post-pregnancy symptoms" that were actually signals of an autoimmune reaction to corn, dairy, and gluten. Meanwhile, Nichole's family faced a sudden discovery of severe sensitivities to dairy and gluten. Suddenly, searching for safe, enjoyable food wasn't just a challenge—it was near impossible. 🥴 Motivated by this need for change in the food industry, Trish and Nichole joined forces, and Every Body Eat® was born! As we celebrate Food Allergy Awareness Month, we are reminded of the power of personal stories to inspire change. Join us in supporting and spreading awareness, and let's continue making mealtime inclusive and enjoyable for everyone. 💙 #foodallergyawarenessmonth #foodallergyawareness #foodallergymom #foodallergyfamily #foodallergylife #foodallergyfriendly #cleansnackideas #schoolsafesnacks

MAY is Food Allergy Awareness Month! As parents of two kids with multiple severe food allergies, we would like to amplify our message in raising awareness of food allergies through Food Allergy Awareness Thursday in the next few weeks. ⇨ Do you know someone or perhaps a child in your children’s classroom that has any food allergy? ⇨ Do you ever wonder when sitting in a plane whether it is safe for the person next to you to eat peanuts offered during your flight? About 33 million Americans (1 in 13 kids) have been diagnosed and are potentially living with life-threatening food allergie and every 10 seconds food allergy reaction sends someone to the ER….and we’ve been there 😨. Food allergies are not only life-threatening but it is also life-altering. Drop 🙌 on comment 👇if you would like to join us in raising food allergy awareness and tell us one thing that you can do to support anyone with food allergy (We know that you’re going to put a smile on their faces 😉). #foodallergy #foodallergymom #foodallergyawareness #foodallergykid #allergenfriendly

Even though allergen labeling on packaged food is required by law, not all “contains statements” are created equal… 🤔 Do you believe that potential cross-contact should be required (not just “optional”) on food labels in the US? There’s a lot of new people here so I wanted to re-introduce myself. My name is Corinna, and I’ve managed multiple, severe food allergies for 17 years between my two girls. I used to… 🥺live in a state of fear that my girls would have a severe reaction. 🥺feel afraid to speak up about allergies because we live in a world where people don’t get it. I wasn’t confident living with food allergies at all… School/daycare Dining out Travel Trying new foods and doing challenges Social situations All of it. ▶️I used to think that because allergies were life-threatening, people would instantly accommodate them, and I didn’t have to do much. 🤷🏻‍♀️But when I didn’t do much, or the right things, food allergy safety wasn’t prioritized and my worry level would hit the roof. 💕Over 17 years, I’ve learned that there are ways to advocate and create food allergy safety for my daughter in every life situation; without limiting life or feeling like a helicopter mom! 💕That’s when things started to feel more normal and safe. Because after years of experience, I knew I could do the right groundwork so that I could let my daughter go to a play date without me, or go to school and feel like she is fully safe there. ➡️I’m so passionate about this topic that I created my food allergy podcast and workshops to help others overcome food allergy challenges faster and easier than I had to. Check out the on-demand workshops and podcast episodes I’ve created using our 17 years of experience. These programs and workshops have already helped hundreds of families! With topics like “getting over the fear of trying new foods” to navigating school, to traveling worldwide or to Disney, you’ll find something to help keep your child safe while feeling like every other kid! 💕I want to thank you for your support. For all the saves, comments, shares, and purchases. Your support allows me to keep encouraging and helping the food allergy community. Sources Allergiesquebec 2018 #sensibilisation #sansallergenes #sensibilisationauxallergies #allergiealimentaire #Mamanturquoise #foodallergymom #foodallergy

Huge day for our little guy working up the egg ladder!! Since he’s been doing well with pancakes and waffles with egg, we got the go ahead to try egg noodles. I was worried at first if he’ll even give them a try because we are currently going through a very “food selective” phase. BUT he ate a whole bowl of eggs noodles and had no reaction! We’ll continue to offer egg noodles weekly but we are excited to progress up the ladder!! #eggallergy #foodallergymom #toddlermom #eggladder

Our son was 15 months old when he had his first allergic reaction to a food. He was eating eggs that had been cooked in butter. He started with hives that soon progressed to coughing. I was on the phone with the pediatric nurse and she heard him coughing and she asked if we had Children's Benadryl, which we did. I gave him a dose and off to the ER we went. Less than a month later he was diagnosed with Egg, Dairy, Peanut, and Corn allergies. The corn ended up being a false positive, but he did have a sensitivity to it. Over the last 17 years, he has outgrown all of these except dairy. We continue praying for him to out grow this last allergy, but know that He will be glorified regardless. I am Dairy Free to support my son. Dairy is inflammatory for me causing issues with some of my PCOS symptoms. My husband has found dairy inflames him causing his autoimmune issues to flare. We live dairy free! #FoodAllergies #NotADiet #NotAPunchline #FoodAllergyAwarenessMonth #FoodAllergyMom #THMCoachAngela #EattingToLive

Anyone who knows me is aware that my son, his girlfriend and my niece are anaphylactic to many foods including nuts. My son and his girlfriend ventured out on their first spring break this week. First solo vacation without parents. For us it is more stressful letting go because of their life threatening allergies. They did their research prior to going away and called restaurants and found a few they felt safe eating at. I didn’t realize until today that they chose a great week to be away. May is allergy awareness month and I want to give a huge shout out to a restaurant on Marco Island in Florida. @cjsonthebay not only do they accommodate for food allergies, they also tag the food confirming that it was prepared safely. I believe after the wonderfully safe and delicious dinner they had tonight, you will be seeing them every night for the remainder of their trip! So @cjsonthebay thank you for taking care of part of my heart tonight. All restaurants should follow this protocol! May is Food Allergy Awareness Month. This year at our annual allergy appointment, we received results of Jackson’s blood work and skin test that ultimately says that he is still highly allergic to wheat and eggs. This means we need to continue to avoid his allergens. This was not the news I was hoping for since I was really hoping he would outgrow this allergy by now. Being a food allergy parent has been an incredibly difficult journey. You always have to prepare for the worst by always having an epi-pen with you at all times. You have to have food and snacks that are allergy safe for your kid. You can’t just eat out at any restaurant or “pick up something for dinner” at a fast food restaurant on the way home from somewhere. You bring food with you to restaurants that you know your child will eat. You read food labels over and over and have your partner read them just to make sure you aren’t missing anything and that it is safe for your child to eat. Thankfully we have successfully stayed out of the ER due to anaphylaxis for a full year but there’s still a long road ahead. As Jackson gets older, he will hopefully understands that he has food allergies and why we carry the epi-pens everywhere we go. Our goal this year is to have him understand how to ask if things are safe for him to eat so if he is offered anything, he can safely decline or accept the food. I hope one day that he will not have to ask if things are safe for him to eat but until then, we are going to do our best to protect him and give him all the tools so he can learn to best navigate his food allergies. #foodallergy #foodallergyawareness #foodallergymom

Allergy mom Amber Spann (@trilogyinmotion) shares how her 3 sons have become avid gardeners – and how it's changed their food attitude and given them confidence. Today, "they'll now volunteer to taste foods – because they grew the ingredients. The garden has done wonders.” Get inspired by this great tale of life and food allergy lessons in the garden at the link in our bio. STAYCATIONS in the UK 🇬🇧 Somehow reminds me of those Covid years - but sometimes when you have a food allergy it just makes life all that little bit easier when you can drive somewhere with all your stuff, you know the language and healthcare and Tesco is just around the corner... In my next few posts I'll talk about our Staycation to beautiful Cornwall - where we stayed, where we ate and the fun things we did! Whilst #Staycations may no longer be trending, it will always be a great safe option for so many! #staycationuk #foodallergy #foodallergies #foodallergymom #allergies #allergyfriendly #allergylife #nutallergy #nutfree #travelwithme #travellingwithallergies #travelwithkids

🙋🏼‍♀️ I dream of a world without food allergies 🩵 May is Food Allergy Awareness Month, so I'm warming a teal wax (well, this is as close as I've got! 🙃) in honour of my sweet 💁🏼‍♂️Kiddo who lives his active, hockey-centred life with a severe peanut allergy. He's resilient, he's conscientious, he's responsible and mature in a way that other kids don't have to be. But he also feels the burden sometimes. He doesn't want to read labels, turn away homemade treats, or ask a bunch of questions at restaurants. But he has to. It seems silly that a food could be dangerous, that microscopic proteins could send your body into chaos, but that's the reality. A serious reality. And the worry as a parent will never go away. Food allergy friends, I see you! 🩵 Someday, the dream will come true.

Did you know May is National Celiac Awareness month? Well now you do! This journey the last year was overwhelming at first, but once broken down by food charts, it’s been fun to learn and navigate! May is food allergy awareness month! Joey is becoming his own advocate, and I am so proud of him. He’s proudly wearing his red sneakers to remember Oakley Debbs and all the other children (and adults) who have lost their lives due to a combination of lack of awareness and knowledge, stigma, ignorant people, bad doctors, bullies, and probably a lot more I can’t even think of. Food allergy parents have the very difficult task of navigating life knowing their children could potentially get very sick or even die multiple times a day every day from cross contamination, poor caregivers, carelessness, and more. It’s terrifying for the child and their parents/siblings/families. We have so much work to do to continue to make schools and the world more safe and inclusive for those living with severe food allergies, and I’m seriously so happy to be a part of this amazing community and to contribute in any way I can. Happy May 1st! @redsneakersforoakley #foodallergy #foodallergyawareness #foodallergymonth #foodallergymom #anaphylaxis #keepkidssafe #may1st spreadkindness #spreadawareness #inclusion #redsneakers #redsneakersforoakley

The “What ifs” can be especially tough in the early days of a child’s food allergy diagnosis. There are so many unknowns. Digging into those what ifs can help make them more manageable. What might be happening beneath the surface of that fear? You might stumble across some deep-seated beliefs about your own abilities, competence, goodness, worthiness as a parent. Or find that past experiences have molded your expectations. Or something else entirely. Whatever might be happening, understanding the different parts of you at work can help make space for the others; the parts of you that believe you can handle this, that know you will always do the best you can for your kids. #foodallergymom #allergymama #foodallergy #whatifs #allergyfears #foodallergyfears #allergytherapist #kidswithallergies #babieswithallergies

:🌟Join us for Food Allergy Awareness Week! 🌟 Attention everyone! 📢 It’s time to come together and raise awareness for food allergies. From May 12-18th, we’ll be celebrating Food Allergy Awareness Week. Food allergies affect millions of people worldwide, and education is our most powerful tool in keeping everyone safe and included. Throughout the week, I’ll be sharing important information, links, and fun activities to help spread awareness and understanding. Each day will have a different theme, I will post more information on this in the upcoming days. Let’s all learn and teach our kids how to recognize allergic reactions, how to create inclusive environments, and how to support our friends and classmates with food allergies. Together, we can make a difference and create a safer, more compassionate community for all. Let’s make this Food Allergy Awareness Week one to remember! 🎉 #FoodAllergyAwareness #InclusionMatters #SafetyFirst #foodallergyawareness #tealtakeover #knowledgeispower #foodallergymom

Introducing allergens to your baby: 1. Choose a day when your baby is well 2. If your baby has eczema ensure their skin is in good condition. 3. If your baby has severe eczema (needed daily steroid cream) or already has a confirmed egg allergy, then speak with your doctor before you introduce peanuts at home. 4. Try the food early in the day so you can monitor for any symptoms. 5. Continue to breastfeed while introducing solid foods, if possible. Rubbing food on your baby’s lip or skin first is not recommended for identifying allergies Some foods like citrus, tomato and strawberries can cause a red rash around your baby’s mouth, especially if they have sensitive skin and is not a sign of allergy The guidelines now recommend early introduction of allergens to prevent allergies later on. Understandably this is scary, especially as a first time Mom, and it will be the first time foods will be introduced to vour babies diet at around 4-6 months What have you found most difficult with allergen introduction’s? #foodallergy #foodallergies #foodallergyawareness #foodallergymom #allergy #glutenfree #dairyfree #allergies #allergyfriendly #foodallergylife #foodallergyfamily #allergymom #peanutallergy #anaphylaxis #eggfree #allergyawareness #foodallergykids #eggallergy #health #top #nutfree #kidswithfoodallergies #eczema #asthma #momlife #allergyfree #foodallergyfriendly #allergylife #peanutfree

National #allergyandasthmaawareness month! My family is affected by severe food allergies, seasonal allergies, contact dermatitis, eczema, and asthma. We have epinephrine auto injectors, other allergy medication, and prescribed inhalers. The ability to just be able to eat and breathe without issue is something most of us without allergies take for granted. Since meeting my husband and having our son, I’ve seen just how difficult allergies and asthma can be 🩵 #allergiesinamerica #foodallergyawareness #dairyallergy #eggallergy #treenutallergy #mustardallergy #seasonalallergies #asthma #eczema #foodallergymom #allergyawareness

Did you know May is Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month? It’s estimated that more than 6 million children suffer from IgE mediated food allergies and another 6 million suffer from asthma. Many have both! We found out about my daughter’s IgE food allergies when she was about 10 months old. At first it was dairy and eggs. A few months later she had a traumatic reaction to hummus and we determined she was allergic to sesame. Shortly there after she was diagnosed with asthma after multiple ER visits for wheezing. Two years ago she was diagnosed with tree nut allergies as well. My son had suspected non-IgE mediated allergies to dairy while breastfeeding that he thankfully grew out of. However, be was diagnosed with IgE allergies to tree nuts and peanuts at around 8 months. He also has asthma and eczema as well. Being a mom to kids with food allergies and asthma is not for the faint of heart. There’s the constant worry that something will happen, all the extra preparation that goes into just leaving the house, and the relentless, “can’t help but think what did I do wrong to cause this” mama guilt. But...we’re managing! They go to school. They go to birthday parties and playdates. They have sleepovers with grandma and we’ve gotten to a point we’re my husband and I are comfortable leaving them for several days (with a huge emergency binder of course). And, there’s hope! My daughter has been able to wean off her maintenance asthma meds AND my son outgrew his peanut allergy! Yay! Are you an asthma or allergy mom too? Tell me about it!
