It’s Dusty!! Sweet puppycat Dusty is looking for his forever home. He is extremely playful and loving and full of energy. His life before was sadly full of neglect and he was tossed outside to fend for himself on the street. Thankfully that is all in the past for this darling boy, but he still struggles with the trauma of abandonment. Right now he is in a short-term foster situation that he’s going to lose soon. DUSTY UPDATE!!! Dusty Springfield made it to his foster home!! 😭😭😭 Swipe through for the progression. He found the bathroom, specifically the bathtub, to be his safe space to start while he got his bearings. This is normal! Even super outgoing cats need time to adjust to new surroundings…so many new sights, sounds, smells. Many cats will hide for a few days or even weeks! It may feel personal, but it’s not. This is also normal. Dusty happens to be a rare breed of #puppycat who thrives on pets and head butts, so it didn’t take him too long to feel confident enough to come out for attention, and treats, of course 😻 Dusty is really a special boy and like with all the cats I spend time with either socializing or “pre-fostering” I’ll call it, I get emotional saying goodbye. They often look to me like, “is this ok?” like Dusty did, And I have to reassure them that yes, it’s ok, you’re ok, you’re going to have an amazing life, my dear. This is just the beginning. It’s really hard saying goodbye especially to cats I’ve bonded with (I came home and sobbed for a few mins 😭) but the sadness I feel is eclipsed tenfold by the overwhelming feeling of joy from seeing them just completely blossom and become who they were truly meant to be in a dedicated foster or forever home. She was a scared little kitty who put her ears back and shrunk whenever i approached her. After a few days, she realized i wasn’t so bad and approached me for pets whenever she saw me … i know she is still a bit nervous, but is getting braver and loves snuggles. Taylor loves to feel safe. She likes to be carried close to your chest with her arms on your shoulders where she immediately starts to purr and make biscuits. Her new family will need to be patient and let her settle at her own pace. She will need a safe space where she can retreat to when she feels overwhelmed. She would do well with a friendly older cat who will help to build her confidence. Our downstate shelter partners are having a hard time adopting #Cats that have been in their shelters and are getting older, even though they have done nothing wrong.
