Jaleo by José Andrés, Washington DC. Little did I know that on a cold Monday in DC I was going to enjoy a “Menú del día” at the same level (and price) as the best lunch menus in Madrid. Chef José Andrés runs several restaurants in D.C. and a few other cities in the USA. Jaleo, steps away from the nation’s Capitol brings authentic Spanish flavors to homesick expats or anyone who appreciates real Spanish flavors. We are not talking disappointing paella with chorizo and long grain rice or beheaded and deveined grilled shrimp. José Andrés is able to recreate the real Spanish flavors with elegant loyalty and doesn’t americanize dishes like most mediocre chefs would do. With my DC photo assignment completed by earlier afternoon and a purposefully scheduled much later 6pm Amtrak... it's time to EAT! So I headed to #JaleoDC. It's a Chef José Andres Spanish Tapas restaurant. I'm a fan of his restaurant collection at Hudson Yards in NYC. So it was the perfect opportunity for a culinary expedition. Started off with Sangría roja La Sueca (Red Sangria) Garlic Shrimp was great. The Octopus (Pulpa) was the best I've ever enjoyed (and I order it alot)! Next on my adventure was the house made Chorizo. Solidly good, but nothing out of this world. The climax to my culinary adventure was the "Conejo en salmorejo con puré de albaricoques" or Canary-islands-style marinated rabbit confit with apricot purée. Orgasmic! To die for! Lastly, a 3 flight tasting of Vermouth. Delightful! Then back on Amtrak to Philly for a nap...zzzzz.

Wow. I treated myself to a wonderful tasting menu at @jaleobyjose in DC last night. It was incredible. The food, drink pairings, and service were top notch. I wish I could have shared it with family, but we will have to visit #jaleochi next time we are in Chicago. My favorite bites? The liquid olive, the salmon tartar cone, and the grapefruit granita with olive oil Greek yogurt ice cream.
