Following the recent release of Michael Edward’s American Legends and the announcement of Frédéric Malle’s departure from his eponymous brand, it seemed only right to sniff through the Estée Lauder Legacy Collection with one of my favorite American perfumers, @aroma_m_perfume Released earlier this year, the Legacy Collection featured five iconic scents reimagined by Frédéric Malle: White Linen, Azurée, Private Collection, Knowing, and Estée. I wish we were able to smell them side-by-side with their existing or even better, vintage formulations, but even using our hazy recollections, the Legacy versions smelled lighter, more diaphanous, and airier. I think that FM’s description of the fragrances in the collection as being “nicely Photoshopped version[s] of the original[s], while being the original[s]” is spot on. They feel edited and filtered, but not overly so. Like FM gave the formulas a mini-facelift with some carefully administered Botox and fillers, but stopped short of a Swan-like overhaul. Fans will certainly find them recognizable. Our favorites were Private Collection, which smells like the elegant aunt of FM Synthetic Jungle, and Azurée whose touch of cumin tilts the fragrance into a surprising degree of raunch — not a bad thing! I also need to mention that if you want to spray blotters with abandon in a public space without anyone bothering you, the Bazaar Bar at the Ritz-Carlton NoMad is an excellent place to be THAT perfume lover. The drink that I keep thinking about is the Leatherette, Torres 20-Year brandy, Old Forester Rye, East India Sherry, sweet vermouth, and lavender bitters, rested in goat leather. YES, RESTED IN GOAT LEATHER 🐐 How did it taste? Like a leather perfume, but thankfully drinking it won’t make you blind 😂. (so disclaimer that i did not pay for anything) 📍 Zaytinya @zaytinya / 1185 Broadway, New York, NY 10001 Rating: 6/10 i’ve always wanted to try something of jose andres, so I was looking forward to coming to the nyc zaytinya this week 😄 we ordered a lot of small plates to share as well as a few of the family style platters some highlights - the kebabs were really delicious, and my favourites were the kofte (ground beef) and the shish taouk (chicken). I am here preparing communal snack for my child’s preschool and I am thinking of World Central Kitchen. The philosophy of our preschool’s shared duties and snacks is similar to the mindset that helped Chef José Andrés begin World Central Kitchen. There is joy in shared food, there is hope in consistent meals, and there is strength in good food (emotionally and physically). One of the many traditions associated with The Masters is the annual Champions Dinner. The premise is simple: The previous year’s winner gets to host a gathering of all former Masters champions and pick the menu for dinner on Tuesday night before the tournament begins at Augusta National Golf Club. For this year, reigning champ Jon Rahm of Spain drew inspiration from his home country’s Basque region with perhaps one of the most unique menus in Masters history. Prepared by famed chef @chefjoseandres the dinner began with six different choices of tapas and pintxos. The first course was an Ensalada de Txangurro which is Basque crab salad and potato. For the main course, diners had their choice of Chuleton a la Parrilla, a smoked and seared Basque ribeye steak, or Rodaballo al Pil-Pil, a fish dish made with turbot and Navarra white asparagus. And to finish things off, there was Milhojas de Crema y Nata, a puff pastry cake with custard and Chantilly cream. Arrived in Barcelona and we were lucky to have lunch with Dan’s cousin who was just finishing her vacation. We went to @tapas24barcelona based on @chefjoseandres recommendation and it did not disappoint. We had the chicken croquettas, pork meatballs, eggplant, and a typical dish of fried eggs and iberico ham over fries with a gorgeous runny yolk. Yum!! Great lunch and great company.
