Our highlight in New York City was the High Line (Art-) Park with its amazing sculptures. You start at the Whitney Museum of American Art and stroll through the park, whose railroad tracks were originally used to transport building materials for the skyscrapers. On the left, you can take a detour to the fascinating art galleries "Gagosian", "Leo Koenig Inc." and „Zwirner“, which have exhibition spaces like those in European city museums. The list of dream museums is long, including the Guggenheim Museum, the MoMa and the Metropolitan Museum of Art with its fascinating sculpture terrace overlooking Central Park. In the American Museum of Natural History you can admire the American dinosaur finds. Other highlights included free jazz concerts at Lincoln Center and Central Park. We were also able to reserve tickets for the Met Opera House and the David H. Koch Theater a month before the start of our trip. The "Freischütz" opera and a modern dance performance by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Company were presented there. We enjoyed every minute of our 10-day stay. STUDIO VISIT // Though her forthcoming world premiere may be her first New York City Ballet commission, acclaimed dancemaker Amy Hall Garner is no stranger to Lincoln Center. “After my freshman and sophomore years of high school, I attended summer courses at the School of American Ballet,” she shared in our latest Studio Visit editorial. “By the time I graduated, I was very familiar with the Rose building—60 Lincoln Center was like home. I knew I didn’t want to be in a ballet company, that wasn’t for me. I loved my ballet training but I wanted to move differently. STUDIO VISIT // During the 2024 Spring Gala next Thursday, the curtain will rise for the first time on Underneath, There is Light, sought-after choreographer Amy Hall Garner’s first addition to New York City Ballet’s repertory. Garner described her multifaceted dance background and creative process for our latest Studio Visit feature, and offered a glimpse into her rehearsals. “I always have ideas in my mind, but I don’t have all the answers, and I kind of like that,” she says. “It makes it fresh for me. I get inspired by the way the dancers move, and I like to explore together. Once we have a certain amount of material or we get to a certain point, the pieces start speaking to me.
