Japan, Day 2 - We started our day our day at the Shibuya Sky tower and then visited the Kanno Hachimangu Shrine and the Tofukauji Temple. I missed having a tour guide, or at least data, because it felt like I lacked context for what I was seeing at the shrine and temple. We went to the Starbucks at the Shibuya Crossing - said to be the busiest crossing in the world - for a good view and, of course, a drink. It's hot and humid. Finding something to drink is an ongoing goal. I've only seen one water fountain. Finally, we went to our sushi making class at . I'm a natural at making the little rice balls you start with, according to the teacher. It's a cool process because your right and left hands have specific jobs to do on their own - no using both hands to make the ball or making the bottom indent with the right hand. We were taught to put Wasabi in the sushi as we made it, which was new to me. They were set up to take pictures of the chefs (us) in traditional tops while holding the sushi. We walked into dinner tonight & the host asked if we wanted to sit outside or inside. Taylor wanted to sit inside because she gets cold. But, she knew I wanted to sit outside. As we walked inside she said “sorry mommy.” I told her to unapologize. I told her not to apologize for what she actually wanted. We don’t always get our way but if we do, don’t apologize for something that’s important to you. Period. Birthdays have always been a big deal to me, and the last few have just been meh. So when I said to my mom, hey wanna go to Universal for my birthday? She without hesitation said yes. This was honestly the best birthday I’ve had in years. My mom was a trooper. She did kept up with me and did every ride, and she really went out of her way to make sure I had an amazing trip. From sipping cocktails at ten am, to eating the best Puerto Rican Pastelón I’ve ever had, and salsa dancing in the street with a group of Latin dancers, this was definitely a trip to remember. The best part though was the memories I made with my mom ❤️

Japan, Day 1b -The trip from the Narita International Airport to our hotel was an adventure worth its own post. Though we were traveling after 7pm on a Friday (or maybe because) the train station to find the Narita Express was bustling. Ottawa transit is never this busy and especially not after business hours. Due to an injury on or near the tracks, our train was delayed on route and we ended up in Shinjuku (the "if you like nightlife" area of Tokyo), well past 10pm. Wow! So busy and crowded and what a great vibe. The 3-D cat electronic billboard was a highlight. If you’re into block parties on a steroid level then I highly recommend attending All King’s Day when the entire country celebrates the king’s birthday. It’s a national holiday and they close everything…shops, trams, taxis, roads and everyone parties. The music, the energy, the dancing, the smiles, the alcohol, the laughter was so fun to be a part of. We especially loved the kids market this morning where the entire Vondel Park (a park the size of Central Park in NYC) was filled with stalls hosted by children selling toys, busking their instruments or dance moves, homemade games of chance, and baked goods. Thousands turned out to financially incentivize these budding entrepreneurs with tips and to shop. Claire loves her little Van Gogh crochet doll she picked up at one of the stalls. 📚Bookstore Love📚 Happy Independent Bookstore Day! We visited @booksonthebosque a woman owned bookstore, when we were in Alberqueque. I like the Welcome Readers! sign when you enter the store. It is a spacious but cozy space with lots of comfy seating. It's the perfect place to find a new book, spend some time reading while enjoying a cup of coffee and a pastry. ☕️🥐 They have a large inventory of new and used diverse books. I appreciated the large selection of local authors/publishers and books about New Mexico. We got some great recommendations from the bookseller. You can also find unique gift items by local artisans. We had a great time on the island of #Capri (probably our second favorite day). We went to the Blue Grotto, where you take a rowboat into this cave with amazingly incandescent water. You have to lie down completely to fit into the mouth of the cave. We also took a chair lift up to Mount Solaro, were packed into a bus like sardines, and ended the day with (of course) gelato. #motherdaughtertrip #bluegrotto #ladolcevita

📚Alberqueque LFLS📚 Check out these unique libraries that were all created and built by @timsuniquelibraries 🌵 The lst one is the second library that Tim built. I've never seen an LFL that spins before. So cool! The steward painted it, and that gave him the idea to paint his future projects. It's located on Monte Vista Blvd NE. 🌛 The next two are located on Mackland Ave. I love the bright colors on the lst one and the star and moon details. The black and white library looks like puzzle pieces. 🦸♀️ The last three are all in the same yard. I'm sure the lst one is a hit with superhero lovers. The next one is a food pantry, and it's an homage to the Minnesota Vikings. The last one is reminiscent of an aquarium, and it's for water bottles. Does it spin too, Tim? I can't remember. I think it's so generous of the steward to provide books, food, and water to their community! They are located on Truman St. ❓️Which one is your favorite? I can't choose one. A trip to Isla Mujeres on Wednesday was filled with magic and miracles and all things divine! First a taxi from Riviera Maya to Cancun to hop the ferry to Isla. Then a golf cart trip around the island visiting Punta Sur (stay tuned for more pics) and playa Norte with many beautiful stops in between. Then we shopped a bit had dinner in town and took a sunset ferry trip - back to Cancun. Greetings from Tokyo! We're on the Narita Express train on the way to our hotel 30 hours since we left home. My travel buddy and I are tired but still in good spirits. I paid for seats in an exit row that were every penny. The meal before landing got us ready for Japan - though Reid also had Mr Noodles on the way to Calgary, so her training started earlier than mine. Narita Airport was bright and busy and we found the trains easily. I liked the sign for the women's washroom. The men's room on the train has a window that shows the head and shoulders of the occupant. I didn't take a pic of someone in it because I'm not that creepy. #visitJapan #motherdaughtertrip
