IT IS KICKING OFF TODAY, FUNGAFAM! Because my other block started pinning, I decided I would closely check my tub of home pasteurised CVG inoculated with a crumbled up Flammulina Velutipes colonised block made from an @urban_myco PFTEK kit PINS SPOTTED!!!! They are fricking tiny too, but they are there, Fungafam. And as you can see it took a good while! This homemade CV substrate was inoculated at the start of April - so it took about a month after that to get here! Very interestingly though, this has pinned at the same time as the PFTEK block. Why is that interesting?: The PFTEK block was started in the fruiting cycle directly after full colonisation. No fridge. No other steps. Should be the quickest fruiting time. This homemade CVG was inoculated with a different PFTEK block on the same day as the above. Then had to colonise fully (which takes additional time). So one would expect it to lag behind. BUT this tub was refrigerated overnight after the colonisation step... so has that sped up the fruiting? I have other blocks on the go which I put in the fridge for 2 days... if they fruit fast, then we have clear data. Det här är scharlakanskål (Sarcoschypha austriaca), en vårsvamp jag länge hållit utkik efter men aldrig sett. Tills idag! Jag fick leta en bra stund om jag ska vara ärlig, men tillslut så fick jag en glimt att något rött under alla gamla löv, kvistar och multet gräs. Scharlakansskål ingår i ett s k "kollektivtaxon" med tre andra arter som alla ser helt likadana ut (hjälpsamt, eller hur?) De skiljer sig åt på mikroskopiska karaktärer. Men läge i landet och med uteslutningsmetoden så utgår jag ifrån att detta är scharlakansskål som också är en signalart i fuktiga, näringsrika lövskogar. Den växer på döda grenar, gärna i lite sent nedbrytningsstadium så den är beroende av ett ständigt avdöende grenverk. För att skapa kontinuitet i en nyetablerad lövdominerad skog krävs inte lika lång tid som i barrdominerade miljöer men ju längre platsen varit trädbevuxen desto bättre för arterna, helt klart. Detta är en grov generalisering, men jag tänker att ni hajar 🦈🍄 Den här plätten olikåldrig triviallövskog på gammal åkermark har varit trädbevuxen sedan 1975 enligt kartgranskning. Det är 45 år, inte speciellt länge eller hur? Med några röjningsinsatser för att få bort inväxande gran, tänk vad den här platsen kommer husera om ytterligare 45 år? Det är ju som sagt inte så långt dit 😉 -- 🇬🇧 Scarlet Elfcup (Sarcoschypha austriaca), is a lovely indicator species in moist and nutrient rich deciduous forests.
