It's #alcoholfreefriday! Well, low alcohol Friday. I've sipped on Wiper and True's core pale many times over the years. Alongside the brewery's milk stout, it's been my crafty go-to when searching the beer aisle in @waitrose. But a low alcohol version is a new experience. Let's see how it measures up! Kaleidoscope, 0.5% pale ale from @wiperandtrue. It looks really good! There's a great colour to this pale, enhanced by a nice foamy head. The taste is a little thin, a bit watery. It's got a decent flavour though, with a soft burst of citrus, some grapefruit and a gentle grassiness on the close, not quite strong enough to tickle the bitter taste buds. Northern Monk is known for its gimmicky beers. Prawn cocktail crisps? Check. Roast dinner brown ale? Check. A low alcohol TIPA? Now I've seen it all. Patrons Project 31.01: The Pilgrimage, Reimagined, 0.5% alcohol free TIPA from @northernmonk x @smugone. This series has scored highly on @untappd and for good reason, especially the triple IPAs: - 31.01: The Pilgrimage (4.35) - 31.04: The Resurrection (4.33) So how does this reimagining of a TIPA as a low alcohol beer compare? Well, it doesn't, obviously. It smells decent, very fruity with a savoury element. It's great to see the same hop profile mirrored from the original, including Cashmere, Citra, El Dorado and Idaho 7. The taste is really interesting, offering a peach iced tea vibe. Lemon sings with a background chorus of black tea adding a dry finish – Cashmere is working hard in this brew. It's a tasty beer, full of flavour for an NA, but it's just too thin, especially when comparing it to the full fat version. I've been wanting this to try this beer for ages, mostly because I absolutely love the artwork. This is definitely one can I'm going to keep in my collection! I also have a soft spot for milkshake IPAs so a cereal milk pale sounds right up my street too. When I saw Mash did a rebrew last month, I jumped at the chance to pick one up. Unlucky Charms, 0.5% cereal milk pale ale from @mash__gang. I was recently listening to an episode of @offmenuofficial with @noel_fielding where he talked about wanting to have liquified Party Rings coming out of his taps. That description immediately made me think of this beer. It's conditioned on a five year old's birthday party: rainbow drops, iced gems, party rings and fruit loops. Get ready for a sugar overload! This smells like an explosion in a sweet shop, led by notes of orange and raspberry sherbet, and drinks more like a sour ale. It's super sweet, delivering layers of pineapple, peach and berry. It's quite creamy too, recreating the sugar sensation of eating a marshmallowy cereal. Sadly the body is a bit of a let down though. I was excited by the description of a 'seriously thick oat cream base' on the can but I didn't really get it. Happy St Paddy's Day! I wasn't going to bother with a post today but then I saw the excellent @markdredge on @sundaybrunchc4 celebrating stouts for St Patrick's Day, including offerings from @wiperandtrue, @anspachhobday, and this from Mash Gang. Oh go on then. Call of the Void, 0.5% low alcohol nitro stout from @sirencraftbrew x @mash__gang. Keeping it dark for #stoutsunday but light on the liver. I've never had an NA nitro stout before and it's got a big challenge to overcome – can it deliver the body needed to mirror its heavier, creamier brothers? It's close! While I would love more weight to this, and it certainly isn't the fullest nitro I've had, there's enough body to recreate the feeling of sipping on a Guinness. The real success comes in the depth of flavour. There's a lovely, robust coffee profile in both the aroma and taste. This is followed by sweet molasses and cinnamon notes that settle on your tongue. I'm an unashamed nerd. How nerdy does it get? Solo war games about a post office skirmish in Poland at the start of the Second World War. Yeah, pretty nerdy. I was thinking about what beer to drink while I played and this seemed like a good choice. National Anthem, 0.5% cherry cola ice cream float pastry stout from @mash__gang. Of the MG beers I picked up, this is the one I was most excited about because it's a really unique style. The aroma is really interesting. I think I spent more time sniffing this than drinking it! Firstly you get layers of cola cubes and creamy vanilla, absolutely delivering on the brief. This is followed by a more subtle background of chocolate and liquorice tying in more typical stout aromas. It's quite a combination! Similarly, the taste initially feels like a glass of coke – think more of cheap, supermarket brand cola. It's sweet, fizzy and has that unmistakable brown sugar tang of cola. But those initial notes settle, revealing a more stout-like profile delivering musty chocolate. This is a really interesting beer. It feels quite light and fizzy. You can definitely tell that it's a low-alcohol beer but it's unique enough that it doesn't matter. The Hand That Feeds, 0.5% low alcohol vanilla stout from @mash__gang. Let's get this out of the way. It's thin, really thin. It doesn't really give me the cheek-coating mouthfeel that I want from a stout. But it tastes good! There's a foundation of roasty coffee and chocolate, elevated with a lick of creamy vanilla. The flavour profile makes me think of an ice cream float – a slight carbonation and vanilla cream. I'm not doing dry January but I did pick up a few low alcohol cans from Mash Gang to make it more of a well, damp January. I haven't had a lot from MG, or a lot of NA beers at all in fact, so I'm really excited to see how these beers compare to the stronger pales, IPAs and stouts that I'm used to. Starting with the classic low-alcohol style: Stoop, 0.5% low alcohol American Pilsner from @mash__gang. The NA beer I've tried the most is @luckysaintbeer, a Bavarian-style lager and it's very decent. How does this measure up? It smells very light and bready with a hint of honey sweetness. There's a lot of flavour for a lager-style beer. Firstly you're confronted by a flash of lemon and lime citrus, followed by a wave of honey adding an earthy quality. Next comes a gentle grassy bitterness, closing the experience with a dry sensation in the mouth, begging for another sip. This pilsner is malty, light and satisfying. I would've liked some more carbonation, it wasn't as crisp as I would've liked, but on the whole I'm pretty impressed. #mashgangbrewing #mashgang #nonalcoholicbeer #lowalcoholbeer #noalcoholbeer

I had a ‘gram chat with @thelostpintproject recently about the merits or otherwise of a certain non-alcoholic beer. Subsequently I was wary of trying this, another example, but found it to be more than passable. Zlaty Bażant Extra Horke 0% pod Krywaniem w Tatrach Wysokich. Kolejne zdjęcie z wrześniowego urlopu (wciąż zostało mi ich jeszcze sporo do pokazania). Tym razem inna wersja bezalkoholowego Bażanta - bezglutenowa. Gorsze w smaku niż wersja standardowa (wiadomo) ale podczas włażenia na górę w pełnym upale i tak zrobiło robotę. Dodatkowo dochodzi tutaj fakt, że na górę właziłem mocno osłabiony jakimś wirusem, którego złapałem kilka dni przed urlopem. Szkoda, że nie miałem wtedy Bażanta ciemnego bezalko bo bardziej było by o czym pisać. Fotka cyknięta została na szlaku zielonym, prowadzącym z "Trzech Źródeł" na szczyt Krywania, który widać w tle nad piwkiem. Przebyta trasa: Trzy Źródła (Tri Studnicky) ->szlak zielony ->Krivansky Zlab -> szlak niebieski -> Krywań -> szlak niebieski -> Jamske Pleso -> szlak czerwony -> Tri Studnicky. I must be slightly cheeky to be tagging M&S in this and other posts when, to be totally honest, the beer is…well, it’s meh. Meh bordering on ‘bleugh’. It’s a shame because we got really excited about the M&S store coming to our town and while the food is another level, the low and no beer choices aren’t great. This beer for example just tasted bland, nothing to write home about, and like all M&S stuff was a little bit spenny.
