5 years of shopkeeping. 🥰☀️🏋🏽♀️ And wow, have we been through a lot! We had our 1st birthday in the first week of lockdown, and have since navigated the Pandemic, the Cost of Living Crisis, Business Rates failings, a huge move 🌱, won 4 Awards and were finalists for 7!! We’ve donated thousands to charities, offered event spaces for local and UK artists to teach and showcase art, and we are 1 step closer to completing my business plan that I wrote when we moved into @cabotcircus - to add a takeaway coffee service. I’m immensely proud of everything we have achieved in the City Centre, without funds from the local council. Instead we’ve had you guys, our cheerleading community 🥰 holding us up while we continue to fight for handmade, independent, high quality and responsibly made products to occupy our high streets. Ps. Beautiful Rhona in our newly knitted Honeyblossom Yoke cardigan. Knit by @jpatjung for Loop using @dererumnatura Ulysses in the colour ‘Eucalyptus’. It’s so beautiful! Designed a few years ago for us by Yoko Hatta, one size fits most as how far you layer one side over the other is totally adjustable. It looks great on so many, and I love this new version. We’re holding ours together with a Minä Perhonen brooch and a snap. Yoko is an incredible designer and has written many knitting + crochet books - it’s such an honour that she designed this for Loop. Yoko Hatta is the founder and driving force behind the Kazekobo Knitting Studio in Tokyo. Ulysses is a carded wool yarn from Arles merinos bred in Provence, France and, depending on the colour, from black merino bred in Portugal. We love the yarns of @dererumnatura ( We’re about to receive Antigone, their beautiful Linen yarn this week!) A little bit of nitty-gritty: Juliet knit this on 3.25mm needles and used about 7.5 balls of Ulysses. Happy 2 years of Little Heartshake!! 🥳 Today I’m reflecting on how wild these past two years have been, and I’m dang proud that we made it here. When I started working on opening a second store at the beginning of 2022 our sales had been amazing since reopening after Covid, and we were stoked to expand and grow. Then suddenly, right as we were opening Little, inflation skyrocketed and sales tanked, and we had to really buckle down and do our very best to keep both stores afloat. Last November I was seriously considering not renewing Little’s lease and consolidating back to just Big, but Little has been chugging along and proving its value, and we just love this tiny space and couldn’t bear to let it go! So now Little has another two years of lease to keep growing, and I really really hope I made the right move 😅 My personal life has also been in a state of total upheaval these couple years which definitely made it harder to focus on work, but things are finally feeling more settled, and I’m deeply happy with where I’m at. This pretty little cafe, Au Vieux Paris is apparently an Instagram favourite and I was lucky enough to catch the owner pottering around singing operatically! What an experience! Be sure to visit the glass exhibition ‘Freedom’ before it is sadly packed away on the 9th May, but fear not, our sadness will be short lived as we welcome UWE students with their Photography exhibition! It is always free to attend an exhibition here at prior so be sure to pop along 😊 We also have our new Sensory Friendly Hour continuing on every Sunday and Monday for our first hour of opening, so if you fancy a more relaxed shopping experience we are here to welcome you. Hello! I thought it was about time I introduced myself to welcome new followers and catch up with all you lovely regulars. So here’s some very random snippets of info… My name is Michelle Mason and I started the vintage business whilst working as a homewares designer. I never imagined that the vintage stuff would take off & that I’d open a bricks & mortar shop - staying for 10 years before moving to a showroom and a pop-up (scroll for photos). I was born in Yorkshire and moved to London when I was 18 to do a degree at Chelsea School of Art, followed by a masters at St Martins. I’ve lived all over London and am now happily settled in east London. In my late 20s I saved up & took a year out to travel to South and Central America. I lived with a lovely Guatemalan family to learn Spanish. Whilst there I took a trip up an active volcano with four others, lost the guide and had to find my own way down in the dark! In Venezuela I sailed for two days in a dug out canoe over the border into Columbia. Four of us then rented a wooden hut on stilts, without electricity, on the mosquito coast in Honduras. You had to check your shoes every morning for scorpions but it was magical and I met amazing people with such stories to tell. I love books but being dyslexic means I read very slowly. I’ve written three books (it just takes me longer than most ☺️) I don’t like lifts (elevators) so I walk up flights of stairs to avoid them. One of my friends lives on the 19th floor! I love being outdoors and go running as often as work permits - it helps with walking up all those stairs! If you’ve got this far - well done! And thank you so much for following.
