[8/8] Drawing 8 - Hawk, Charcoal Illustration 🦅 ————————————✧.* My final magnum opus if you will (besides the koi fish collage.) I definitely think I peaked on this drawing out of all the drawings through the semester. It makes sense because it’s the last drawing that was dedicated the most time towards. Fun fact: I had to redo this one 3 separate instances because of how I was messing the proportions to the page up, not fun to say the least. I lost many hours of sleep over this one too, but I’d say it was worth it for the product as I am very proud of it all :) Thank you guys for enjoying the posts! “Fluid Life” by @laugebacca Ceramic & Acrylic Paint I’m Lauge Bacca an international student from Colombia. My major is film, tv, radio and electronic media. I’m really garteful that i came to a community college like COD because there is a real strong sense of community. I believe COD has plenty of spaces and resources for students to thrive but you gotta be proactive. This semester I decided to take ceramics as a fun class. I have never done ceramics before but it has been truly rewarding to jump into a new subject and create. I called this art piece fluid life because I wanted to make an homage to my childhood back home and how i lived next to the beach going every weekend with my family, riding jet skis and surfing. We contrasted that with trips to the mountains and farms my family owned. Thats why in form my piece is a tree but colored after waves crashing into the bay. The tire swing represents the playfulness and easiness of being a kid and just worrying about having fun with my cousins, who would make tire swings like this. #studioarts #collegeofthedesert #ceramics #childhood #colombia #coral

i can’t believe i graduated college with my associate degree in studio arts a year ago already !! but let’s act like i posted this a year ago 👩🏻🎓🖤 despite all the obstacles, obligations, and opposition i dealt with outside of school, a lot of good things came out of me going to college. i won six scholarships and figured out how i could to go to school debt free with financial aid. i made the president’s honor roll with a 4.0 gpa. my art was featured in gallery openings. i had the honor of working alongside jurors and my professors to display art for the gallery openings. my photography was featured in the texas photography society new visions digital collegiate exhibition. i graduated a semester ahead of schedule. my favorite classes in college were painting, photography, design, drawing, and art appreciation. i also enjoyed going to art club. i’ve been painting my whole life, and my love for painting was reignited. growing up i always wanted a creative career, which led me to the beauty industry—it can be a practical, rewarding, and lucrative career path for creatives to explore and find their niche. i needed an outlet to express all this creative energy. it’s like i went full circle back to myself. if my younger self knew she gets paid to be an artist, it would ease some of her worries. she’s still learning, growing, practicing, experimenting, and making art. she doesn’t have it completely figured out, and she still has so much more she wants to do. she just came a long way and went through a lot to get to this point, but she persisted in following her dreams and she should be proud of herself. #collegegraduate #studioarts #atxartist #dfwartist #atxmua #dfwmua #txartist #painter

[6/8] Drawing 6 - Teddy Bear, Texture Illustration 🧸 ————————————✧.* Texture time!!! Since we have already spent the last many drawings on forms and space, this sixth drawing focused on the detailing and especially textures. First, learning with our professor and how to texture was the main challenge. At first this piece was a struggle because I was confused with differentiating the planes and forms from the textures but I learned to divide the light and darkness into their own planes, not the objects themselves. Also learned how cloth, and folds work through this process. Very good learning exercise because cloth and texture can be so difficult!! [5/8] Drawing 5 - Two Bones, Tone Illustration 🦴 ————————————✧.* Anddd we’re back to the still-lifes. This fifth drawing was not on a white paper from our sketch books, instead we drew on toned paper! This was a bit more difficult because toned paper requires white pencil or a lighter addition, and the blank areas are not the lightest, they are the half point in the tone. (refiguring out the tone scale was a pain). Imo, this was my worst piece of the semester. I was struggling with figuring out the small details and on-top of that was completely unaware of how to use the white. Somehow I did it all well, because my professor thought this was my top piece of the semester…. gurl bsfr. This time we moved from focusing on the details to focusing on the perspective of basic forms by drawing a city we found inspiration from. Mostly this was focused on how well we followed the perspective we chose and our own creativity. Some reason I was struggling with the left side a lot but it turned out good! yippee sound effect!! [2/8] Drawing 2 - Spherical Bottles Illustration 🍾 ————————————✧.* Second drawing of the semester moved on from geometric shapes and moved into spherical edged and shaped objects like the bottles! This one had to involve even tone, form, and care. We learned how to draw spheres and constantly practiced our tone scale as tone became the main focus. This piece was a bit more difficult because it was my first time trying out charcoal. It’s extremely messy….. boowomp !!!! Flavio managed to work with a manufacturing company to translate an original film photograph onto a textile that he then shared with friends and family. Seeing his work in different settings and with the people he loves has given him motivation to continue learning. [1/8] Drawing 1 - Geometric Objects Illustration 🧱 ————————————✧.* Here comes the second dump post, the Drawing I course. I am glad to finally show my progress through my first college art class. These all span my fall semester if my freshman year 2023. ————————————✧.* To start, this was our first large piece. This piece had to include an even application of tone, correctly defined planes, and clear light and shading. It was the first piece, so some geometric objects were the basics. This is also where I began to practice 30 second to a minute sketch drawings. Great basics in using a graphite pencil and blending techniques.
