They’re procreating somehow?! Haha In all seriousness, I wanted to write about deep meaningful subjects that plague a large number of folks, including our friends and loved ones, in a light hearted way and far removed from reality so people could engage in dialogue about it - without being re-traumatized or stigmatized. I wanted to engage in a story about what silence does to our inner demons, how it morphs from generation to generation, and I wanted to make it super freaking cool and dynamic! La Chupacabra is a feminine twist on the classic Latin American folklore. The film follows a young woman whose struggle with alcoholism and pain lead her to a vicious cycle. She wakes up, drinks for relief, blacks out and on and on. She frequents bars and, on occasion, will take a man home. Except, she always wakes up alone - eternally ghosted. But things aren’t all as they seem… After another night of heavy drinking, she wakes up to a series of fragmented memories of a night… she doesn’t remember. Director’s Statement: For me, the key to this film is exploring human connection through a comedic lens.
