I recently mentioned that I have been making an effort to carve more time for creative expression without pressure of sharing it in my blog or social media. One way I have been doing this is through painting. I enjoy painting enormously and find it relaxing, especially as I'm working with acrylics. For instance, I experimented with adding some circles here, only to later paint over them. “Where sea meets sand” Acrylics|oil pastels|graphite pencil 46”x34” (1) 46”x38” (2) So many times after I’ve finished an acrylic wash I think hmm, that looks like something, but what? Well these two took shape quickly. About halfway through, I realized they reminded me of the tide pools we explored last summer along the Oregon coast. The strange translucent blobs floating in the water and clinging to the rocks totally captivated us all. They were everywhere- and so cool, definitely odd, but mostly just memorable. Two years ago on a trip to the California Pacific Coast, my husband and I found this valley of lilies. It was one of the most beautiful places I had ever seen. After I draw the subject in charcoal I go over the drawing with a wet brush to create shading and mid values. At this stage I have added a light acrylic wash and started to add layers of chalk pastel. Still a long way to go. I am having so much fun with this. Plus I have 3 other exciting commissions going at the same time. Update on the Heinkel HE-111 H-16. Most of the interior is done and while waiting for new washes etc. I moved over the engines as this is the next steps after attaching the fuselage together. I opted for Ammo Acrylic washes and used Interior wash over the engines and Brown for Dark Yellow over all the RLM02 grey parts on the engine and interior. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the two halves glued together and get some wings attached!!
