It’s been one full year since the ICA has locked out ACTRA performers on camera and in the booth. ONE YEAR. It’s easy for a person to say “yeah but these are difficult times.” BUT when you look at the numbers of the agencies and brands that hire them, profits are up. They aren’t losing anything so why are we? 70-90% pay cuts are what the ICA (Institute of Canadian Agencies) believes to be a fair bargaining proposal. FYI: The average Canadian actor earns 25k/year or less. 70% off of that is $7500. This isn’t bargaining. This is annihilation. This current incarnation of the ICA is undermining 60 years worth of collaboration for no reason other than to try and bust our union. Please share this in your stories. Spread the word. A lot is going on “behind the scenes” in my life — and it’s nothing short of an intense pursuit of fulfilling my dreams and purpose. My dreams are significant — beyond what my younger self would have ever imagined; beyond what I can even imagine as a grown woman. Sometimes it's scary to dream big. Fear of rejection plagues us in pursuit and sometimes prevents us from stepping out in courage. We put so much energy into what other people will think about our dreams — and we permit others to place limiting beliefs on us. Sometimes you have to hold your dreams safely and share them only with those you trust to hold onto them and genuinely support you in achieving them. It’s certainly not an easy pursuit ahead for me, and honestly, it’s felt like a massive endeavour lately. But I refuse to give up without allowing my future self to see what can evolve in the face of opposition and defeat when you keep going and when you believe. I will struggle. I will doubt. I will think, “Am I even cut out for this,” but the only solution (for me) is to stay grounded in the endeavour. I will adapt. I will invest in myself. I will allow failure to be my feedback. And I will know that the key to unlocking the dream door is patience in the waiting of manifestation. Then, it will all come together in due time — not in my timing, but in God's divine timing. So, I keep my vision close to me. I use my purpose to guide me, and I will focus on nurturing my dreams daily. Hold your vision. Trust the process. Always grateful to be in the booth, but especially now, as an illegal lockout is taking place, forcing thousands of ACTRA actors out of work. Over 28,000 ACTRA members and other #performers are the target of one of the largest lockouts in Canadian history. The Institute of Canadian Agencies (ICA) represents Canadian advertising agencies with clients like @Walmart, @Google and @mcdonaldscanada. Last spring, when our #union refused the absurd offer of a 60% pay cut (with gutted benefits and the elimination of our retirement plans), instead of negotiating in good faith, the ICA illegally walked away from a 60 year old collective agreement, in a clear attempt to convert wages into profits. For months, the majority of #commercial work, both #oncamera and #voiceover, has been forced by the ICA to be for non-union members only. You may have noticed a decline in the quality of many radio and television commercials... Nobody wins with the ICA refusing to come back to the table. As Canadian actors, these may be rough times for many of us, but it’s together that we’ll get through this. A massive thank you to the brands still hiring union talent, thank you for standing up for an industry that has worked for all of us all for over 60 years.
