Happiness isnโt very good for the economy. If we were happy with what we had, why would we need more? How do you sell an anti-aging moisturizer? You make someone worry about aging. How do you get people to vote for a political party? You make them worry about immigration. How do you get them to buy insurance? By making them worry about everything. How do you get them to have plastic surgery? By highlighting their physical flaws. How do you get them to watch a TV show? By making them worry about missing out. I watched a real short video that simply said we are teaching our kids to be consumers. And I donโt think fewer words have stuck in this forgetful brain, better. I am sure you have recognized it even in yourself. To come to the realization that if we are comfortable with who we are and what we have is not good for business. When people are trying to be funny and say I didnโt leave my house today, I saved $300. Who or what is the problem? We canโt go to work without stopping and grabbing food, a coffee. Most of the time we have both at home. We donโt take the time to pack a lunch. This one hurts me a little bit to say but we buy new clothes and shoes that we wait to wear for โoccasionsโ because the fact of the matter is most of the time we will be in some sort of leggings or sweats and a tee. Good Morning, Happy Tuesday! What grounds you? What calms you down? What brings you back to center? It is funny because I donโt think I could have told you even 10 years ago what that was. I just rode the roller coaster. I am actually pretty surprised myself that I found the very grounding I need in the outdoors. I never was that girl. No hankering to camp, or hike, or explore. Definitely know need to be one with nature. In fact, I avoided it. So much so, that my Dad use to do a camping/fishing trip in July. I would stay home. And everyone knows how much I love spending time with my Dad. Now there are days that I feel it in my bones. I just need to get my shoes off and be barefoot in the grass. Good Morning, Happy Sunday! I really miss her. It is nice to miss someone though, especially if the circumstances are right. For instance, missing someone that you can see again. Someone who has it together where you have no โextraโ worry. Sometimes I catch myself though just being frustrated because I am not hanging with her. When people touch her stuff. Even something small like when the boys use her car and leave a bit of trash in it. The audacity. (Imagine I said that long and drawn out and with a Russian accent. I like a good Russian accent when I am mad.) I like to go to places me and her have been. Eat stuff that we eat. I love it when my friends ask me about her. Because to me for her to be this old and for me actually having information about her is a wonder.. Not that I am old. She is definitely old. Like, super old. But to actually know more than the basics of someoneโs life at this age and being in the position I am in, her mother. I think that is pretty awesome. Good Morning, Happy Friday! If I won the lotteryโฆ. I am sure all of us have thought about it. We see those big jackpots get posted and we immediately begin to discuss what we would do with our winnings. I think this is a great conversation to have. It will immediately tell you what kind of person you are dealing with. Knowing what I know now, I am glad I didnโt win when I was in my twenties. I can tell you without a doubt that it would have been spent frivolously and by now I would have been broke. Now? I would immediately become debt-free. Complete all tasks that would get me living in the woods, self-sufficient, with a string can for a telephone. Okay, well maybe that was a bit dramatic but you get the point. Talk to some investors, and make a nest egg. Then depending on what the winnings were I would move down the line helping family members. I learned a long time ago that you cannot help others if you cannot help yourself. The same as you cannot pour from an empty cup. Taking care of ourselves and our needs does not have to be as selfish as some would like to portray. Especially if you are watching some of these reels from countless platforms. I like to comment, โHey, your selfish is showingโ. Because most of it is just a rouse to have an excuse to be selfish in situations they created, that require sacrifice. What is one of the things that brings you most joy (Heiterkeit) these days? Running heiter is a constant reminder that there is joy in my life. I feel lucky that I get to do a lot of things I genuinely enjoy: curating, styling, writing, reading, taking photos, working with and getting inspired by other creatives. One of my biggest (heiter related) joys has been hosting The Heiter Society, though. Not only do I get to regularly be creative, mindful and try out new things (through the membership workshops), I have the opportunity to connect with like-minded creative women too. In fact, many of them have become dear and supportive (business) friends. Without their kindness and encouragement I wouldnโt be where I am today - and I would probably feel very alone on my heiter adventure. Also, experiencing the society through their eyes and receiving feedback on what a positive impact the membership has had on their lives makes my work truly worthwhile (see slides). I couldnโt be prouder, more grateful and happier about how this community has evolved and continues to develop. Itโs been the most rewarding, beautiful and heiter journey. I genuinely hope that you have something similar in your life - and if itโs not there yet, that itโs already waiting for you. Good Morning, Happy Monday! It seems unimaginable that we are coming to the close of February. Just four short days. I feel like there is a lever that controls the speed of how I go through life and each year that lever clicks forward a few notches. Time is speeding up but I am not. I often get frustrated because my book is not done. But I have to remind myself that, โI canโt be frustrated with the results I did not get from the work I did not put inโ. I do not work it like a job, I fit it in. In the wee hours of the morning, it is these morning posts and the book. And I am just not ready to give these up. I just feel like I am not managing my time. I have things I have to do, things I want to do and a few things in between that are fun to do and I am just not balancing it well. I am even burying myself in the โprep for thingsโ. March has some big birthdays. My MIL, my husband, and my daughter. Sprinkled in there are also some of my friendโs birthdays. I am also thinking about exciting things. The oldest nephewโs career path seems to be speeding up a bit. He wrapped up his Wildlife Conservation Diploma and he started his BA at the first of the year, a few weeks later had his application accepted for Game Warden and now has his agility test schedule. (For those of you that are not familiar there are a few hoops you jump through before a solid yes, and go to the academy.) Plus he works. Good Morning, Happyโฆ. Entry: Day 6 The strangest. Well, I donโt know if I want to say โthe strangestโ but I will tell you it has a high ranking in the strange category. A sweater I had been eyeballing since November finally came back in stock. I know sounds ridiculous. But I do love a good mock neck. And even more surprisingly it popped up in my email in February. Right after I had slid through โno spendโ January. Letโs be honest, after I white knuckled it through no spend January. I thought this was fate. Ordered and headed to my Momโs. The delivery date was just a day off from my return. Pretty exciting time to get something you have essentially been thinking about for months. (Most of you know I have an odd clothing obsession.) The package arrived, I ripped it open and I immediately noticed the texture was off. Next the color. Wait a second, this is not the right shirt. How disappointing. Upon further inspection, the hood, which should be a mock neck, is stitched to itself and the back of the sweater. So, now we are at the wrong item and damaged. Then the real kicker. The sweater has two labels. Up top in the usual spot is an American Eagle label. Down on the left side where some tags are is a Victoria Secret label. What in the Sam Hill is going on around here??? While A&E was more than obliged to fix what they could in this scenario (obviously my sweater was once again sold out). I found it surprising that the lady on the other end of the phone seemed unsurprised. Continued in commentsโฆ.
