Boots on and beating rain to dodge for Emma as she met with and local conservation farmers to monitor and discuss our Alscot #bng site and how we achieve successful management in 2024/25. We’ve been working hard over the last 4 years to reduce the nutrient levels in the soil to restore natural grasslands and we’re now thinking about wildflower species and the methodology of planting up 47.8 acres. A very special tree indeed and one of our favourites. Here it is day and night. It was recently likened, by a BBC Director, to Harry Potter’s Whomping Willow and it made such an impact that the script was adjusted whilst filming Father Brown, The Father, The Son (episode 5, series 11), to feature the tree. Its character, however, cannot be compared to the violent willow. Recently, Alscot introduced the Alscot Biodiversity Project and how Alscot is contributing to the UK’s climate change ambitions, to the local authority. As well as taking in the phase 1 project land on foot, an open discussion took place on balancing commercial reality, development and the environment, as well as the formal implementation of mandatory net gain. As a pioneer in Biodiversity Net Gain, and now in its fourth year, Alscot continues to work closely with ecologists and specialists from government bodies, including WCC, Natural England and Defra, to share its experiences of BNG, ready for the formal implementation, now Jan 2024.
