"....And the Greatest of These" is based on I Corinthians 13:4-13, “Love is patient, love is kind”……..ending with …..”and the greatest of these is love”. This scripture is read at weddings many times and is one of my favorites! I used the cross to symbolize Faith, the anchor for Hope and, of course, the heart for Love. I painted these on small wood plates but, as always, they can be painted on any surface, including larger plates. I used my DecoArt paints and texture products and Dynasty Brush brushes. I still remember being in Mrs. Stackhouse’s 4th grade classroom when she and all the other teachers got a call to come into the school office, which never happened. She walked into the classroom with tears already streaming down her face. We all knew something was up but didn’t understand when she said planes were hitting buildings. “What? That’s nonsense!”, I remember thinking, “and what are the Twin Towers anyway?”. Well, after getting picked up at an oddly early time from school, I soon found out what everyone was talking about. Watching the news was like a nightmare that wouldn’t go away- streaming on every channel. I think I can honestly say this might have been the first time I understood that there was evil in this world. That there weren’t just good people with good intentions. I remember being so scared, angry, heartbroken, and afraid all at the same time. The people running the streets and falling out of the buildings willingly taking their life because they saw no other way to make it out alive shook me in ways that still give me chills.... You might ask why I’m sharing this part of my memories from 9/11/2001; why I’m remembering all the sadness, pain, sympathy, and anger I felt this day. I’m sharing it because it’s important to remember the feelings before the triumphs and breakthroughs. Amidst the pain & loss, there were some great victories: one equities trader helped at least a dozen people get out and went back to help more, a group of passengers on Flight 93 banded together to prevent their plane from crashing into the Capitol building, two unarmed F-16s scrambled to stop any other hijacked planes, risking losing their own lives to protect others- the list goes on. Yes, lots of heroes lost their lives that day, but seeing the nation come together after something so tragic is another feeling I will never forget. So while many people today feel divided on their patriotism to this country, whether it be a result of the current race for president, social unrest, lack of proper response to Covid, I urge you to remember that we have experienced this pain, adversity, and anger as a country before. I am accountable to what I have seen. I don’t need anyone to tell me they are or are not a victim of it. Racism is woven into the fabric of my country. I can’t deny there is a systemic cycle of racial poverty because I have seen it with my eyes. Before now, it was easy to ignore because I just didn’t know how I could help. But I can help. I can ask. I can listen. I can support with my time and my money. I can read and then reread. I can educate myself. I can advocate for fixing the system to ensure everyone has equal access to the tools and opportunities I have. I can come alongside. I can be teachable. I can learn. My intent of this post is to share what I have learned. If you take issue with anything I’ve said, love me enough to message me privately or have a socially distanced coffee with me. We we’re going to take all three boys to the local Christmas event but Dylan was tired and so was Mark after a day diving. So I got to spend time with my two big boys and they really are cool humans, they may whine, fight and drive me nuts sometimes but they are thoughtful, loving, fun, insightful, wise and so much more than I ever imagined.

Last night Andrew and I spent the evening celebrating a pretty big life event....20 years of marriage!!! ♥️♥️ 💕 I have no idea how its been 20 years - in some ways it feels like it was just yesterday and in other ways it feels like its always been us. What I do know is that 20 years doesn’t just happen by accident- it’s intentional and a choice we make every day. We choose each other.....whether we feel like it or not. 💕 You don’t make it to 20 years without learning a few lessons either - and trust and believe we’re still a work in progress!! But a few things we’ve learned along the way that I believe have really helped us....and may help you too. 💞Choose to love. In the beginning you have all the feels. Love is an emotion to you. But as time goes by you find that time and life have an effect on those emotions. That’s when love becomes a choice. Choose to love your spouse every day! 💞Date often! It doesn’t have to be expensive or extravagant- it just has to be time that you set aside to spend with each other. And variety is the spice of life y’all- so get creative and change things up! 💞Always, ALWAYS speak to your spouse with respect. It’s okay to disagree and it’s okay to argue. Heeeelllooo.....we’re two different people! But low blows and harsh language are not an acceptable part of those disagreements. 💞Communication, communication, communication. This one took me a long time and I’m still working on it! But so many of those arguments I mentioned can totally be avoided if you’re just willing to communicate more. Apparently men aren’t mind readers 🤷🏼♀️ #whoknew so you have to SAY what’s on your mind. Your spouse likely isn’t going to figure out what you want on their own. 💕 I’m sure there are a ton of other major lessons we’ve learned, but it’s early and I’m still on my first cup of coffee ☕️😉. But just know that anything worth having is worth putting in the hard work. And I’m so grateful for a husband that has been willing to put in that work with me and that has provided me with the love, the forgiveness, and the grace to make it through 20 amazing years! Here’s to making the next 20 even more amazing! ♥️♥️. Love you babe!!!

Where were you when the world stopped turning?... I was a bride-to-be, 18 days away from the big day. Everything felt so uncertain. The days, weeks, and months to come were beautiful. People stopped letting their differences come between them. We were a nation united. I sometimes feel we've forgotten to treat each other with kindness. What if we were to think about our posts and texts before we send them out for the world to see? What if we opened the door for a stranger, or acknowledged someone who did it for us? What if we chose to see the good in others, instead of being blinded by differences? This morning I read about the woman at the well. She was taken back by a Jew associating with a Samaritan. Jesus didn't condemn her for her life choices. Instead He pointed her to Living Water. This Source would never run dry. If we drink from the deep wells of the Word, we will be refreshed in our thinking and actions. It enables us to see others as Christ did.
