📍Art of the Brick, Melbourne Showgrounds One of my favourite exhibitions from the trip to Melbourne. Highly recommend if you need that little pick me up. My favourite had to be Humanism and Perniciem for different reasons. Humanism seeing emotions in the form of lego with its complimentary quotes. Perniciem seeing the animals and being able to settle in a bean bag, relax and listen to the animal sounds to reset. Photos and a little post doesn't do it any justice! A wrap to one if the favourite quotes, "Every day, life strip's bits of us away, and every night, we put ourselves back together again. Growing a little stronger in the process. The strongest we can be though is when we let others help us and we help them in return. Today has been a super fun day out with our Fit for Life Crew. First stop was lunch at The Imperial South Yarra. Food was delicious as always. After our meals we celebrated Michael’s birthday with a yummy ice cream cake for dessert 🎂 After lunch we went to…The Art of the Brick. The exhibition was incredible! The sculptures were amazing and the presentation in each exhibit room had a number of inspirational quotes also! The Art of The Brick - have you been? You must! The worlds best known exhibit of LEGO art. A ‘must-see’ exhibition which immerses you into the world of this award winning American artist, Nathan Sawaya. There were many stunning figures and pieces of art which I will share on my highlights but five pieces that I was particularly drawn to - ‘Yellow’ is the artists most famous piece. A brick count of 11,014 pieces. He describes it as how cathartic opening oneself up to the world can be for our souls. Whilst cathartic, it reminded me that it isn’t necessarily easy for everyone to do this. A smaller piece of 2,344 pieces is ‘Frustration’ - a self portrait for the artist whereby some days he feels like he is not running on all cylinders. This is a feeling we can all relate to at times. Another piece I really could associate myself with was ‘The Mask’ - the artist describes it as keeping things hidden and showing only the face we want others to see. I could certainly connect with this 18,509 brick count. ‘Incomplete’ - described as having one of those days where you’ve given so much of yourself that it feels like a hole has been left in you or one of those days whereby no matter how much you do, you feel like you’ll never get everything done. These 13,122 bricks sure reflect these feelings. I chose ‘Dark Despair’ as my final piece to discuss. The artist compares children holding their hands over their eyes so they can’t see the world….then they reason that the world can’t seem them either….sometimes in darker times we keep using this trick even when we are grown up. My goodness me, how very true! ‘Yellow,’ ‘Frustration,’ ‘The Mask,’ ‘Incomplete’ and ‘Dark Despair’ - yes, I can connect 🩶 Look out for the 80,000+ piece LEGO work of art in my highlights…… #bricklane #london #artofbrick #exhibition #lego #mentalhealth

Art is not optional. As I child I loved Lego, loved building, creating villages, stories. Creativity was at my core. And I got lost along the way because I was told to go to college, one that wasted years of my life requiring classes I had no interest in. College is a business. Never along that path did I feel I had guidance from someone that had my best interests at heart. All I ended up with was debt and confusion. I got derailed for many years struggling between making money by ways I was told was important, and feeling like things never fit, when I could have went deeper into my creativity and probably made more money than ever being my most authentic self.
