7 years ago with my little dumpling. She’s now 9 and shot up Mashallah. Yesterday I had her and my nephew over and I found her trying to fix a leak in the bathroom. In her own little way she was trying to mop up the water and fix the leak. Bless her. We had a fun afternoon, both of them have grown up with me baking with them and they enjoy it. Aiysha came with her notebook so she could write down recipes to make at home. I love she had that thought. It’s a given that we always bake together. So we looked up some recipes and decided on making cheese (I had a lot of milk to use up) and then used that to make cheese scones. And then I was persuaded to take them to see Barbie. We actually all enjoyed it. It’s so cute they both wanted to stay for dinner and so I had 2 little helpers - miso glazed salmon, along with some lentils! Bizarre mix of food but both are quick and easy and most importantly things they would eat that are nutritious. I’m probably the not so fun Aunt as I stopped my nephew from picking up the processed halal sausages. But it’s amazing how kids are drawn to the fast food, to the ultra processed food items in the supermarket, to the sugary treats and I must have missed the hype but he’s constantly going on about an energy drink called Prime. The marketing associated with these things is so shocking. I don’t appreciate it until the kids are here and I’m out with them. It’s no wonder that mums give in as they know how to constantly push those buttons. How do you cope with these marketing messages that kids keep repeating ? I feel I sound like the boring and not so fun Nutritionist Aunt! But I’m glad I’m able to enjoy baking and cooking with my nephews and nieces. It’s also my little way of steering them to alternatives and to use real whole foods. #bakingwithkids #cookingwithkids #homecookingisthebest #avoidingultraprocessedfoods #eatwholefoods #nutritionistaunt #mynieceandnephew #nourishingfoodsforkids #nourishbynudrat
