Settle a debate for me (that I'm having with myself mostly 😜) 𝗜𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁/𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗮𝘆/𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁? As a fresh newbie photographer, it was DRILLED into my head that I should avoid shooting in midday sun like my life depended on it. Golden hour has been the all time favorite time to shoot for myself and every photographer I knew. But I've noticed a lot more content leaning into the dramatic shadows and tones of midday light, when the sun's at full power. I personally don't think one is superior to the other. Both can create insanely cool photos—depending on how you use it. What are your thoughts about it? Are you a solid fan of golden hour or are you loving the move to direct light? I truly feel like I have the best job in the world! Standing with my couples as the sun is rising or setting over a majestic mountain peak, hiking up a trail and seeing wildlife frocking in a meadow, staring out at the ocean and just soaking in that last bit of light. | The Jacksaw - Box Factory | The Jackstraw—a brand new 480,000-square-foot, 313 unit development that’s all about living green, embracing the Bend lifestyle, and fostering a vibrant community. • Here’s the inside scoop: The Jackstraw is a mixed-use project (think apartments, shops, and cool public spaces) that’s being built right between the Old Mill District and Downtown Bend. Not only will it look sharp and blend right into Bend’s character, but it’s also aiming to be the city’s first ever LEED Platinum multi-family building! That means sustainability is a major focus – think native plants, pollinator-friendly green spaces, and even beehives on-site! • But it’s not all about being eco-conscious. The Jackstraw is also setting itself up to be a happening community hub. The ground floor will be lined with shops, restaurants, and local businesses, offering a one-stop shop for all your needs. Plus, they’re creating a special “Woonerf” (fancy Dutch word for a living street) where pedestrians, bikes, and cars can all share the space safely. Imagine strolling through a lively area, grabbing a coffee, and then relaxing in a beautiful public plaza with some public art – sounds pretty sweet, right? • This “Woonerf” even gets cooler – they’re planning to close off a section of Lava Road sometimes for events, concerts, or farmers markets! So picture this: live music under the open sky, right in the heart of the new development. • The best part? The Jackstraw is right next to the Deschutes River and all the amazing outdoor adventures Central Oregon has to offer. So, if you love tubing or anything river related, this is the perfect spot to call home. • There have been some mixed feelings about the project with the Bend City Council recently approving a tax break. • Construction is underway by Lewis Builds, with Killian Pacific as the developer and SERA Architects, based in Portland, designing the project. They’re aiming to be all set for fall 2025.
