Dead Horse Point State Parkā¦favorite place to camp in Moab! It is no secret that Utah is the land of National Parks so it makes it hard to book a stay in their campgrounds for us because we always have our dogs. In this case, I would have rather been staying here than anywhere in Moab. Just north of Moab you will take a left to head up through canyons of rocks to literally get to the top of Moab. Camping here was like floating in the clouds and absolutely stunning day and night! Star gazing anyone? While it is our favorite spot, we camped there when the wind chill got down to 4 degrees. So needless to say we woke up to a frozen water tank on the second night and had to abort mission and head down into Moab to stay at another campground to thaw out. So if the weather is right - this is your place to stay! Also to note, they do not have sewer hookups but do have a dump station. And if you stay during the winter you will probably have to haul your water in like we did because pipes freeze up there so the water is usually shut off. But take my advice - stay and enjoy sleeping with the clouds. Throwing it back on Wednesday not a Thursday! As we spend our first night in Georgia this week headed up to the mountains, I am reminiscing about the good oleā days! This was our first tent we bought as a family. Perched overlooking the lake at Stone Mountain it was an absolutely beautiful spot and a great way to start this love affair with being outdoors with our kids. Also, this was back in the day when Charley loved camping. If you are new here, our oldest daughter is 17, and is not a fan of being outdoors anymore. She is a hotel spa kinda girl and that is ok because momma likes to partake in that on occasion as well! š¤£ But this trip she wanted to come with us as she did the same time last year. We all love this trip to the Georgia mountains each October. The fall leaves, hiking to waterfalls, and getting a chance to see sisters, aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins makes this trip extra special. It all started in this tent. Our accommodations now are more plush as we lay here in our 20 ft trailer with memory foam mattresses. But the feeling is the sameā¦together eating, laughing, and playing as a family. I woke up this morning to a reminder on my calendar that the Albuquerque Balloon Festival started today! We had marked it on the calendar back in January just in case we happened to be out west this time of year. Who knew we were going to be renovating a house? Happy Fall Yaāll! I canāt believe a year ago we had not even embarked on our cross country journeys yet! But we were always on a journey just the same. This is a photo dump of an amazing weekend in October 2020. We had a pop up camper called Scout that we loved and had already ordered our Geo Pro because we knew Scout couldnāt take us into the snow in Utah in January. We headed up to the Blue Ridge Mountains to take in the crisp fall air and the beautiful colors and it did not disappoint! Surviving Covid. š¤ I havenāt been posting for a month. We arrived back home after our stunning summer trip and had one week to pack our house to move to our new one. Well our newā¦but old one. We are taking on a remodel this year. The girls went back to school on August 10th and by the end of the first week, Charley had Covid. Two days after that Capri and I started showing symptoms. Needless to say, we have spent the remainder of August quarantined and very sick. If you follow me on my other account, @vanessa.rhea.home, you may have seen my daily updates on this horrific virus. We are on the mend but lung issues are persisting so we are taking it slow. There is not a day that goes by that I donāt wish we were back on the road exploring remote and beautiful places instead of stuck in a city with Covid everywhere I turn. Charley has decided to pull out of public school and complete high school this year through Florida Virtual School. She is asthmatic and after living through this doesnāt want to take any chances. So I think I will start planning some trips starting in October. Oh did I mention the RV needs work and canāt be seen and worked on until September 22nd? Oh my patience is being worked! Swipe for rodeo action shots! Last night we stayed at Will Rogers Downs KOA outside of Tulsa, Ok. Capri spent the morning sitting by the track watching the jockeys and horses train. It dawned on me that I had shared our Jackson Hole Rodeo experience with you in stories but not all the still shots I was able to capture. And believe meā¦capturing good still shots of bucking bulls is not an easy task! Per usual - whether it is a track, a fence, a wall, or simply leaning out of the truckā¦Capri needs to stand as close as possible to the action when it involves horses. She has really enjoyed being out west and traveling but she is also really excited about getting back home to slow down a little and start riding consistently on a weekly basis. Itās these moments that strike the balance for us and make me understand why right now FOR US it is crucial to be a full time-ish RV family. Karate kid at Eleven Mile State Park. If we tell Capri we are going on a hike that has boulders to climb she is ten times more excited! So this state park was a dream for her. Massive boulders right in our campsite to play on and all around the lake. The hikes here are easy and absolutely beautiful so if you have small children you will love exploring here. Can you find the marmot? When we stopped at Forest Canyon overlook (perhaps the most beautiful in Rocky Mountain National Parkā¦donāt miss it) I was so taken in with the beauty I almost missed this adorable creature sunbathing on the boulders. This was at 11,500 feet elevation and in the alpine tundra. The tundra comes alive for a very short amount of time every year because it is usually blanketed in deep snow. Itās so important when visiting that you donāt walk on the grass and flowers here. The marmot needs all of it to get fat and hibernate the rest of the year. This marmot was about two feet long. Did you know they are from the squirrel family? Totally adorable and he was fascinating to watch! We were a little over 12,000 feet in Rocky Mountain National Park when we rounded a corner and three large elk proudly showing off their antlers were just calmly grazing. What is that? Earth, still in production. I love being out west. Primarily because it is a window into a Earthās past. I find the geology completely fascinating. The different layers of Earth thrust up for us to see. The erosion over millions of years that show us what was going on during different times in history. The huge amount of dinosaur bones and footprints. I mean really I could go on and on. Then I met Yellowstone and watched Earth giving us a show of our future. As each geyser flies into the sky and puddles bubble up beneath the Earth, minerals are being deposited and they continue to get bigger and bigger. So when we arrived at Mammoth Springs I just stopped and stood there in awe. At any moment in time you are looking at Mammoth Springsā¦you are literally looking at a moment in time. It is changing every minute. Deposits are rising to the surface until they block a channel for the water to get through. As water does, it finds another channel and pushes out somewhere else depositing minerals along another piece of the mountain. I took these pictures in specific spots. When I come back some day I will take these pictures again against the mountain range just to see how much they have changed since the last time I visited. Because they will. They already have since I left. It all started with a quick stop to pet a horseā¦ If you havenāt notice yet, Capri is obsessed with horses. Everyday she asks, āso can we buy a horse today?ā. Every day. We drove through Yellowstone starting from the West side and after being there for hours and hours we got to the east side and stumbled upon Roosevelt Lodge; a quaint log lodge surrounded by little log tiny homes. Don happened to notice a ācorralā sign and drove in to see if there were some horses for her to see. Of course there wereā¦over 100 of them! While we were petting them he slipped away without either of us knowing and returned to say āwell Capri hurry up because we are going trail riding in 10 minutes and they need to weigh us!ā I wish I had a picture of her face when he told her but it was as much a surprise to her as it was to me! I believe this road trip has been the favorite of all our trips for Capri. š» Garnet Ghost Town š» Montanaās most preserved ghost town is an incredible site to see! Nestledā¦and when I say nestledā¦I mean way up and way back in the mountains near Missoula is this incredible town. I couldnāt believe how far we had to go to get there considering in the 1800ās when 1000 people lived there it must have been a considerable trek without a car. But they did itā¦all for the gold! Structures still standing have been carefully preserved overtime to not change one element to a more modern style. The last residents in Garnet were the general store owner, a hotel, and a saloon in the 1940ās. It is worth the trip to get back there and great for families! Capri loved checking out the old buildings and the old tools and supplies. šš¼šš¼<< LISTEN UP! >> šš¼šš¼ Great Fountain Geyser is like a ticking time bomb you can watch in action. Hands down better than even Old Faithful! The prediction window was 7pm to 10pm. As we drove up towards it at 7:30pm Don said - we arenāt going to sit here for 2+ hours just to see a geyser. I was quiet for a moment thinking about how bad I wanted to see this thing. I rarely choose what I want to do over him and the kids. I will put their joy before mine every time. But something came over me in that moment and I said - before you and the kids I would have arrived before the time slot and sat there with a good book until it erupted. Even if it took 2+ hours. He immediately said - well we should have brought books then! And pulled into the parking area. Note to self: itās ok to not always make the sacrifices and just put yourself first instead. The people that love you wonāt mind. So I sat in the Jeep right in front of the geyser and Don went down around the other side with a tripod setup so he could get some great distance shots. Here is how Great Fountain works and why it is so specialā¦ When you arrive you will notice the pool in the middle and the terraces of smaller pools surrounding it. Once the main pool in the middle fills up and starts to overflow into the terrace pools you have 70 - 100 minutes before it blows. The first picture is the amazing shot Don took with the tripod. The other shots are what I was able to get sitting much closer. We arrived with the pool overflowing and I knew any minute we could see an amazing show. As it overflows you see ripples on the water, that become what looks like a pot boiling for spaghetti noodles, that becomes a pot that you forgot about and large two foot bubbles start jumping! Then you get the first eruption and you think that was only ten feet tall - thatās it? And then she blows and you scream for joy because you are swept up in a moment of surprise and a moment of complete wonder. And then she gives you a show for up to an hour! She is amazing. She is explosive. And she does things on her time. How she wants to do it. When she wants to do it. Lesson learned oh great one. Lesson learned.

The SwiftCurrent Loop Trail in the Many Glacier section of Glacier National Park is as easy on the eyes as it is on the feet! At only 2.7 miles and a 25 foot elevation gain this is the hike you can take the younger kids on! All while taking in the majestic scenery! If you wish, you can also take a boat across the lake and only hike a portion of it but I highly recommend doing it on foot. Some of the best pictures came out of this hike without even trying! Our Sinopah boat tour in Two Medicine - Glacier National Park was just the beginning to our hike to Twin Falls. There were plenty of opportunities to do what Don and Capri do bestā¦climbing on obstacles! While they are always playing it safe and making sure they have their footing right I am always nervous. But I am always compelled to capture these dad and daughter moments! In the last two pictures you can see the entire view of the Twin Falls. When it rains - we go boating! At least that is the best advice I can give you if it rains while you are in Glacier! The Sinopah at Two Medicine in Glacier National Park is their oldest boat at almost 100 years old. With glass windows to protect from the rain, or open when itās not, it was the best way for us to spend our day when the weather was calling for 40% chance of rain during our planned boating and hiking day. We caught the boat at 1pm and took a nice leisurely ride with informative and funny captains. To float in the middle of majestic mountains was a dream and when we docked we were met with a river entering the lake on the opposite side that we would follow on our hike up to Twin Falls. With very little elevation change it is an easy hike for all ages and a beautiful prize at the end. Upon finishing our hike and returning to the dock it finally started to rain. Glacier provides rain shelters at each dock point on their lakes for just this occasion and we were able to keep dry and enjoy the views as Sinopah pulled in to take us back across. Add this to your Glacier bucket list! It was only $41 for the three of us so it is one of the cheapest excursions you can do in the park. Finally hit far enough north that it is enjoyable to have a campfire to warm up the night! We stopped in Great Falls, Montana for the night at the most boujee KOA. I upgraded us to a patio spot and we happened to get the one near the front that has lights in the trees. If you ever stay here ask to stay in 78! It is close to everything and the ambience is on point! If we didnāt have Glacier National Park waiting for us we would be staying here a few days longer. Tips & Tricks for staying at Berry Bridge Campground! š when booking they tell you that you will have electricity and water. You will not have a water spigot. You will need a long hose to hook up to your neighbors hose to reach the spigot. So bring a 100 ft hose or make a friend. š if you want to use your own kayaks and tubes make sure you have more than just your vehicle to leave at drop off and pick up points or make a friend. š Tent site 11 is the most gorgeous secluded site overlooking the plains and cliffs to the river. The calm before the storm! When we arrive at Double Nickel Campground we were literally wondering - how good can this campground be? It is in the middle of corn fields for miles and miles?!?! To our surpriseā¦a campground we highly recommend!!! So before I get to the storm part let me tell youā¦if you are traveling through Southeast Nebraska and need a place to camp this is the place. It was so well kept, nice trees for coverage but not too much, big swimming pool, really big playground, putt putt, and even a golf course for the adults! Every single campsite had a swing and the pups got to run around in one of their two dog parks. We had a great evening here and then we saw the weather alerts. Severe storms would be rolling in early in the morning. And boy did they ever! Lightning was hitting around us making us scream and the dogs run for cover under the dining room table. Of course, Double Nickel has everything so you wonāt be surprised that they had a tornado shelter underground for us in case we needed to abandon the trailer. We did not thank goodness but it was big relief that I knew we had somewhere to go. If you are following us you should have a SAVE folder called campgroundsā¦and this one should absolutely be in that folder. We made it to Missouri! Day 5 of our summer trip and I am tired! We are moving really fast this week to get up north as fast as we can. That means staying hitched up if we are level, driving 4 to 7 hours per day, and little time for exploring. We are enjoying our evenings and tonight is the first night we will light a campfire because we have been missing that this week. So I apologize for the lack of great story content. As the sun started to set last night at Chewalla Lake Campground the fireflies started flying around us and we jumped up to teach Capri one of our favorite childhood pastimes! Catching Fireflies! We didnāt have a mason jar on hand but we did have a Tupperware with a lid to punch holes in. We had so much fun chasing fireflies and catching them and letting them crawl on our hands as their little butts lit up like a little pop of sunshine in the midst of the impending darkness. Before we knew it the weather alarm started going off and a huge storm was coming so we had to abandon our Firefly adventures and start prepping for a storm. When I stepped back from our campsite for just a minute to find a trashcan I looked back and noticed our little Base Camp looked just like a Firefly herself! Our Base Camp. That is what we call her. Our rock steady that waits for us to return from our adventures, sweaty, exhausted, and full of stories! We dropped her off at the dealership a couple of days ago to have a window checked for water leakage and to fix the black flush tank valve. We are checking off on our list daily of all the things we need to accomplish and prep for before we launch off into our next 9 week explore America more trip! We usually look this excited before every adventure but this was us as we were leaving. It is not always sad to leave...sometimes you are just so happy to have been there you are ecstatically smiling as you arrive and as you leave. You can probably tell we rarely hit the same place twice. But some places are such a joy that we know we will be back and Cayo Costa is this kinda special! A truly tropical oasis in the barrier islands of Florida it is WORK to camp there. 100% primitive with bugs, spiders, iguanas, gators, bobcats, snakes, no see-ums (my legs are chewed up!) and dare I tell you the truth...rats! But the water was unbelievable, the breezes blowing through the palm trees as you swing in your hammock reading a book, the dolphins playing along the shoreline, the tarpon chasing its next meal and giving us a show, the kayaking, the fishing, the perfect water temperature...it was a weekend to remember and a place you canāt just visit once. We will most likely return in February of next year to enjoy the beach line cozied up in a sweatshirt so we can watch the dolphins play again! I am ready for more Florida beach sunrises! Cayo Costa Island camping trip is a week away and I am in planning mode. Being the āDirectorā of all things fun for our little family has me in a constant state of checking off campsite bookings, planning what we need to pack, meals, etc. because we are always going somewhere every other weekend when we are not out on our big trips across the country. Cayo Costa is our planned āadult onlyā weekend so we will be dropping the kids off with the grandparents. If you havenāt heard about Cayo Costa yet, it is an island of the western coast of Florida in the Gulf of Mexico. You can go for a day trip or for primitive camping by ferry or if you have your own boat. Luckily the ferry allows you to haul kayaks and bicycles to explore the nine miles of beaches. A private island destination for 4 days is exactly what I need right now to celebrate the end of our Covid virtual school year at home! Capri is under the weather and not feeling so good so we wonāt be going camping this weekend at Citrus Wildlife Management Area. We tend to go, go, go but when it is time to slow down because our bodies are asking us too, we listen. We packed in a few fun filled days at Jeep Beach last weekend...camping, beaching, and some pool time. So I think we can manage some Netflix binge watching the next couple of days while she gets better. Oh, and I actually had time to work on our website and blog yesterday so...there really is a silver lining around every cloud! Free as a bird š When we are at our home base I miss the feeling of freedom on the road. We all do. There is something about being able to be anywhere we want at any given time that is exciting and liberating! If you donāt travel often or donāt have an RV to just get up and go the best way I can describe it to you is that feeling you get when you take a week vacation and you know itās about to end. That let down of your freedom being taken away and the solidity of life at home bearing down on you. That feeling of the freedom to choose where you go, what you do, and how you do it is what we love so much about being on the road. Donāt get me wrong. We still work while we are traveling. We have full time jobs that require it. But the difference is we can work anywhere we want. On a beach, in the desert, or by a creek with a mountain towering overhead. We choose. That is why between our big trips we make sure to get some camping in on weekends to fulfill that wondering soul of ours. In exactly one month we will be packing up our base camp to head out on our next big adventure! I am not a sunrise kinda person. That is what I have always said. I am more an 8am wake up time girl. Until yesterday. Forced to wake up at 5am to do a photo shoot with our girl @roveandreverie was worth it! It was our first time getting to meet her in person...yes Instagram friends are real! National Park Week can not slip by without talking about Canyonlands National Park in Utah. In all truthfulness, every National Park in Utah is incredible! Just pick one of the five and you canāt go wrong. But for me Canyonlands was really special. For starters, if you are visiting Moab it is the least crowded. You can wait over an hour to get into Arches. But it is also really special. The drive up to it is stunning. Watch for the free roam cattle on the way. There are rolling hills and fields. There are sheer cliff drop offs and canyons that take your breath away. There is the Green River that has carved the most majestic canyons. And their is mystery! Donāt pass up the chance to see Upheaval Dome while you are there. They canāt figure out where it came from and there is speculation of meteors or aliens. Let me know what you think when you see it! Make sure once you do the short hike to it you continue on past it to look at it from another angle. Don is solo camping this weekend as he had a positive Covid blood test on Friday. Completely by chance he needed to take a test for work and found out with no symptoms whatsoever. Us girls are negative and feeling no symptoms either. But the doctor did a nose swab on him to find out if he is currently in the midst of Covid and contagious or at the end of it and no longer contagious. His blood test revealed that he had both antibodies. The ones you have when you have Covid and the ones your body develops that gives you the immunity antibodies for 3 to 6 months. We are blessed that we have a camper he can hook up and quarantine in while waiting for those results on Monday. He is using this time to hike, build Legos, watch movies, and hopefully catching up on editing videos. Wrapping up our beautiful blue days at Turtle Beach Campground! I have so many pictures of how blue this water is and I still keep going through them in awe. National Pet Day is a good reason to have a double post day! And since we donāt get to see a lot of Charley on this feed we had to include her as well. š§š¼ā¤ļøš¶ Stella is the best adventure dog except when we are at the beach! She hates the ocean! If we have her on the leash she grabs it with her mouth and starts pulling us to safety. If we start going in she runs at us and grabs our wrist in her mouth and starts guiding us out of the water. Now tell her we are going on a hike...and nothing can stop her! A small walk to a beach sunset everyday was one of the best perks of this campground! If you are wanting a beach camping experience this is the place! We have had our fair share of beach camping and this was our favorite. Most beach campgrounds are privately owned and very expensive! We spent $150 a night at Camp Gulf in Destin and have spent close to that at most beach campgrounds that have direct beach access. We spent about $60 a night for Turtle Beach Campground because it is a county campground. This campground has been here since 1921 and was privately owned until the county took over it in 2006. All sites are full hookup, before you get to the beach there is a picnic area with grills and tiki hut tables, the water is as blue as the Caribbean, and if you are here between May - October you may see the turtles coming out of the Gulf to lay their eggs! Or even better, watch and protect the babies when they hatch and make their trek to the ocean! The Gulf Coast of Florida has the best waters hands down! We feel like we are on a Caribbean vacation! When you live in Florida and this is basically your playground, you know you have to choose the right time to book your beach vacations. Here are some things to consider: šIs the water warm enough yet? This will all depend on where you are going. If you are in southern Florida you are good starting in April. If you are in northern Florida you will want to wait until the end of May. š Gulf Coast Or East Coast? The Gulf Coast is bright blue and calm, white sand, lots of shells, great for finding shark teeth too! East Coast water is a muted blue grey brown (best way I can describe it), larger waves, less expensive...except for Miami. š When will it be less crowded but still warm enough to swim? Choose between Spring Break and Summer Break and directly after Labor Day Weekend. Otherwise you will sit in long traffic lines, restaurants will be crowded, beaches will be crowded. š Ask your campground about red tide before you get here and within your cancellation window. Red Tide is an algae bloom that has been getting worse due to toxic water spills in Florida. You will find dead fish washing up on the beach and it causes respiratory issues for humans. Just stay away if it is occurring. It can ruin a vacation. š Always pack good sunscreen. You will leave tan if you use it liberally. The sun here is intense. You will leave here burnt and peeling if you donāt. Also donāt forget your tropical drink mixes and lots of bathing suits! Our weekend is starting early here on the Gulf Coast of Florida. And it looks like Capri is taking after her mama...always trying to catch the shot! Spots here are tight at this little gem of a campground. They are not angled. It is just one road straight from the office to the beach and no way two cars can drive on it at the same time. Needless to say parking took too long and involved working around a tree on the middle of our site. We literally had to unhitch and re-position the Jeep to get us in without the Geo Pro hitting the tree. How to make your kids get along...go on a hike! Well, it works for us! These two are 6 years apart and while we are seeing them grow closer together we have had years of āget out of my roomā and āleave me aloneā. But whenever we take them hiking, kayaking, or camping they get along. I think it is the release of boundaries. There are no lines to cross or personal items to protect. It is just them and nature. They are more willing to help each other. If it takes two people to get up that tree or that boulder they are more willing to reach out a hand. So if you want your kids to stop bickering and get along, itās time to head outside and do something fun! Iām not promising a 100% stop on picking on each other...but it is greatly reduced. Itās time for another countdown! This weekend we are headed to Turtle Beach Campground! Time to hook up @drivingeverest and head out on another adventure. Turtle Beach Campground is located on the Gulf of Mexico, so white sand and beautiful blue waters will be on our agenda! A lot of relaxing, tropical drinks, and sandcastles... We are leaving Thursday so I only have three days of preparation to make sure we are ready to go. Meal planning, packing clothes, making sure we have staples in the camper like trash bags, toilet paper, and paper towels....all that good stuff. Oh and cramming schoolwork into three days. That should be fun.
