{Morro Bay, CA} Trying to get out of the cold in California has been hard for us. Our original plan was to hit as many of the national parks in California as possible. They were getting a lot of snow and Sequoia and Kings Canyon was still requiring the use of chains. So we altered our plans to head to the beach. That's the beauty of this lifestyle. You don't like where you are just move! We moved to Morro Strand RV Park, which is a small RV park just minutes from the beach. We walked right to the beach one day and found SO MANY SAND DOLLARS! You couldn't take one step without stepping on one. The kids thought it was the best thing ever. We had lunch on the water and watch the sea otters swim under the pier. We checked out the local brewery and talked with a family who was renting an RV for spring break and thought this lifestyle might just be for them! Another memorable stop on our adventure! Departing from coastal Virginia with @finduscamping and another rv as our travel companions, we made our way to the mountains. 🏔 Last night’s @harvesthosts stay at Showalter’s Orchard in Timberville, VA, was nothing short of magical. Nestled in the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, the sprawling apple orchards provided a stunning backdrop for our evening. 🍏 Parking was a breeze, even for our spacious rigs, thanks to the ample space and level, sturdy ground. We spent the afternoon indulging in delicious ciders and engaging conversations with friends, soaking in the beauty of the surroundings. Meanwhile, our @newpowausa solar panels ensured that our Fuzion remained fully powered throughout the day, while keeping our batteries topped for the night ahead. The second hike we did outside of Vegas was Anniversary Narrows. It was such a unique slot canyon! Totally worth the effort. Things to know about this hike: 🥾 Requires 4x4 to get all the way to the trailhead, which makes the hike easy. 👩🏼💻We knew with working remotely we had to make sure we had very strong (and reliable) internet 🛜 Starting out we used the T-Mobile internet box that we could use anywhere we could plug it in basically! 💰 The cost is $50 a month & I love it because I can even take it into the truck on long travel days! It works GOOD but still wasn’t the consistency we needed so we added in a second stream of internet connection with Starlink! Mommy / Daughter date with Addison! 🤠 🥰 We try to make individual plans for each of the girls to get special time alone. It is so wonderful getting to hear their stories and excitement in their voices! 🩷 This was Addison’s Mommy / Daughter Day. She chose the activity and place to eat. 📚 She chose our favorite bookstore in our hometown of Jacksonville, Florida: Chamblin Bookmine. We wandered the rows and rows of books. She loves anything haunted or scary so she instantly went to Horror book section and was thrilled to find Stephen King’s IT - she would choose to be Pennywise for Halloween just a few months later. Since she was only 9 at the time, I didn’t think it would be appropriate yet - but she’s definitely looking forward to reading it! 🧇 Next we headed to her choice for breakfast - Waffle House. This is where she almost always chooses to have her special dates. We get the All Star breakfast and share it, it’s still too much but we love getting to sample so many different foods. 🤠 I always let them choose the outfits too! Whatever they want to wear and whatever they want me to wear. It’s totally THEIR day! Addison wanted me to “dress up” (something I never do) and she wanted to wear her Mommy-made Cowgirl dress with hat and boots! ❤️ It is so much fun doing special days like this a few times a year. It gives them individual time and space to express themselves, share their interests, and I get to capture their personalities at that moment in time. And it’s so fun letting them choose the day!! 🗣️ Have you done a special day with your kids? Lady's having a bit of a rough go this morning. Dan carried her in when we got home yesterday and put her right next to my desk because we knew she'd want to be next to me. She hasn't gotten up since. We tried to take her out last night but she wasn't having it. We tried again this morning and she tried to get up, but couldn't get her back legs up. We can't use her help me up harness right now because that's exactly where her mass was removed. So, I tried to give her meds - with peanut butter and a treat - her favorite - but, nope. Wouldn't take it. So, now we're trying to make sure she's remaining hydrated, by bringing her water to her -- which, she is REALLY liking. I will keep working on giving her the treat because the arthritis and pain meds will really do her good. And then, if we can get those in, maybe we can get her outside. “I want to live in this place again” In the middle of winter when everything felt dark and spring seemed so far off I went into the motorhome and wrote this. I sat there and imagined living there again. It felt so far away. I wanted to cry. So many memories came up and my heart ached because it seemed that the full-time RV living chapter was over. I wasn’t sure if we would ever go back, but my heart ached for it. I wrote the vision anyways. Slowly but surely moving back into the motorhome came up in our conversations, it became a plan when we set a date. This vision is going to be fulfilled in 3 days!!! There’s still lots uncertain and the spot we are going to is not completely ready yet. But hey, I trust everything is going to work out exactly how it’s supposed to be at exactly the right time. I am doing my part and leave the rest to God. I can’t wait to live in our tiny house on wheels again. We are back on the road and heading north for the summer. Our first stop required us to make a 2 day trip from Texas to Indiana. The first night we stayed in a Bass Pro Shop parking lots, which is actually one of our favorite places to boondock. The second night we used a Harvest Host and stayed at the Mid America Motorworks in Effingham, Illinois. This was a fun stop for both Derek and his dad as it has a large amount of automotive memorabilia and collectibles. It also had a 1910 gas station that was moved and restored on site. There were 15-20 cars on site including the last C4 Corvette. This was a really cool and fun stop for the night. It helped that the owner was amazing and very accommodating. {Bakersfield, CA} Finding a warm spot for Easter Weekend that would be around some other kids was difficult. We settled on Bakersfield KOA. The owners just purchased the property and they are working on getting the grounds looking nice again. We found a local Easter Egg hunt for the kids to participate in and had a nice dinner at home. We had way too much food and ended up making a plate for our neighbor. The kids loved playing between rain showers on the playground and walking laps around the campground. In many ways, our lives here in Seattle have been the best of the best so far. We have a homeschool community we adore, neighbors we love, co-workers who are like family, coaches who have been with us for years, community shops we frequent where we know everyone’s name (and they know ours), and an adorable house we’ve called home for the last 7 years that looks like it’s out of a storybook. We have a beautiful, blessed life AND we dream of something different for our family. We’ve grappled with this “AND” a lot in the last few months - the idea that both could be true at the same time. We are looking ahead with excitement AND swimming in grief at the closing of this chapter. This chapter has held births, deaths and everything in between. Somehow it managed to encompass the highest highs and the lowest lows yet. And in many ways, we are entirely different people at the end of this chapter than we were at the beginning. Saying goodbye to all these people, places and things we love, we remind ourselves that things don’t need to be bad in order to dream of something different. You can choose to leave a place forever in love with it AND be open to something completely new. We have such big dreams for our family, and while we could stay and be happy and fulfilled in so many ways, we’re taking this big leap into the unknown. We’re eager to share our gifts with the world, teach our son through doing, and build something together that we can be immensely proud of. We will forever be grateful for the lives we’ve lived here and the people who have made it such a special time in our lives. THANK YOU - hopefully you all know who you are! **************** P.S. The street jazz in the last slide was just pure magic. I just stood there and couldn’t hold back the tears of joy as I watched. Yeah, maybe I’m a weirdo. 😜 But the struggle here is equally on display. So many unhoused. The roads throughout the city are the worst we’ve experienced anywhere. Potholes and bumps everywhere. {Tehachapi, CA} A much needed trip to see some amazing friends! Being part of the RV community is something special. You meet a family, and then say see you later but unless you have an exact plan on when you are going to meet up, truth is you may not meet up for a year or so. Social media has made it possible to keep in touch with everyone. We met up with a couple of families we met 2 years ago. It was just what we needed! Some time with our friends and a bunch of laughs. All the kids starting playing as no time as passed. It has been over a year since we have seen one of the families and we have been traveling with the other all winter long. Community is everything and not meeting/staying in touch with each other will make this a very lonely time. We had family dinners where Julie made amazing spreads, we took all the kids bowling and they even had a small snow ball fight. We stayed up way too late talking and had the best time! Fire små føtter som er ute på deira livs oppdagelsesferd 👣👣 Desse fire føttene har i 5 år visst at ein dag, skal dei ikkje gå på skulen slik som alle andre, dei skal pakke ned romma og tinga sine, pause liva sine for å flytte inn i ein bobil og utforske verda. Dei har alltid visst det, men alikavel har me snudd opp-ned på tilværelsen deira og det nye livet i ein rullande heim med skiftande og nye tilværelsar heile tida i lag med 3 andre på liten plass, er ukjent, nytt, utfordrande og tar tid å venne seg til. Dei veit at det me gjer er stort, noko som dei aller fleste ikkje vågar å gjere, at dei vil få det så kjekt, at dei er heldige, at dei vil hugse denne reisa for resten av liva deira, men dei er fortsatt barn, ganske store barn blitt. Tweens, ungdommar, og akkurat no vil dei nok sei at livet på vegen ikkje er så gøy. Fordi i den alderen dei er no, er det vennane og det sosiale som gjeld. Og no saknar dei det, vennane sine, kvardagen heime, skuledagen, fritidsaktivitetar, livet sitt. Og det er forståeleg, me har snudd livet deira på hovudet. Men dei har tilpassa seg overraskande fint óg, me lærer å ta hensyn til kvarandre, me lærar oss grenser, lærar oss å finne ut av ting i lag, lærar oss å sei unnskyld, lærar oss å kjenne kvarandre på nye måtar. Jentene held kontakta med vennane sine på teams og FaceTime, og om eit par veker stikk me på besøk i Norge i 14 dagar, og da gler dei seg til å treffe vennane igjen 🫶🏼 Jentene veit at om dei eller me opplever at dette friåret ikkje var så kjekt som me såg for oss, at me følar eller opplever det tungt for oss eller for dei, så snur me berre å reiser heim att til det kjente livet ❤️ Det er ingen av oss som skal ha det fælt på tur, men det tar tid å venne seg til eit anleis liv, det må det óg få lov til å ta. Meet @gabbettfamilytravels ☺️ We are an American family of 4 who currently travel full time. Last year, we gave up our home and belongings and after much planning took off for a 7 month adventure in Europe! We have 2 littles, Isla (3.5) and Ethan (22 months) and just last year alone we took them to 16 countries! (Our favorite country is Türkiye 🇹🇷 btw 😍 ) Currently we are working in the U.S.A (Ryan is a travel nurse), while living in our new RV! We love connecting with other travelers and traveling families, and are always adding to our bucket list. Our first trip of 2024 will be Iceland, followed by 5 more months of at least a dozen new countries.
