📍Sandia Peak Tramway in the Cibola National Forest You guys 👀 this was the scariest thing we have ever done but definitely another core memory! We travelled up to 10,300 feet in elevation via a tram with 35-40 other people. You can see 11,000 square miles from the crest but we didn’t hike to the highest point. Our bodies are still getting used to higher elevations. The pictures 😍 it’s so hard to believe how tiny everything looks when you are up so high! Picture 1 is the view you see from the parking lot. If you look close you can see a blue tower. There are two of those that the tram goes around. We didn’t know that and thought once you were over that first mountain you would go a little ways up and hop off the tram. WELL WERE WE WRONG. After you go through that first tower you drop down into the middle of the mountains and continue climbing even higher🫣it was absolutely breathtaking. Neither one of us had our phones out so we didn’t get any pictures going up. We never thought we would have to say “hey look at the snow in Mew Mexico!” 🤣 Tomorrow is our last travel day for FIVE MONTHS! Living in our #RV traveling and volunteering has been the best decision we have ever made. We knew when Anthony retired that we wanted to travel, but needed to make sure we could afford to enjoy it and still live comfortably. Day 2, or 3, of RV upgrades. We started installing new laminate (very thin) over the existing countertops. We did the dinette, side kitchen counter, bathroom vanity, and small counter in the bathroom. Also hardwired a led light for my wife so she can better see what’s cooking. Another Travel Nursing Contract complete! ☑️ 🏥 Last year, while we were in our hometown of Jacksonville, Florida, I took a Nursing contract and worked three months at St. Vincent’s Riverside. 🌅 This worked out well, so we could earn income while visiting family and waiting for RV repair work to be done. We visited Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma. This is our 33rd state to visit since we started RV living full time in 2019. If we knew how great this place was, we might have come earlier. Our 4 night stay was interrupted by a massive thunderstorm that required us to relocate for one night to get out of the storm’s path. The wildlife refuge is huge with so much to see. {Morro Bay, CA} Trying to get out of the cold in California has been hard for us. Our original plan was to hit as many of the national parks in California as possible. They were getting a lot of snow and Sequoia and Kings Canyon was still requiring the use of chains. So we altered our plans to head to the beach. That's the beauty of this lifestyle. You don't like where you are just move! We moved to Morro Strand RV Park, which is a small RV park just minutes from the beach. We walked right to the beach one day and found SO MANY SAND DOLLARS! You couldn't take one step without stepping on one. The kids thought it was the best thing ever. We had lunch on the water and watch the sea otters swim under the pier. We checked out the local brewery and talked with a family who was renting an RV for spring break and thought this lifestyle might just be for them! We spent part of our anniversary replacing the bedroom carpet. We bought our rig used and the dealer installed carpet OVER the old carpet. We tore out both layers and cut and installed new carpet. And the slide out works lol. We had custom cushions made for our dinette last week. We, unfortunately, weren’t able to tour Roswell. By the time we got to our site and set up for our one night stay it was already 7:30, but we were able to take the Quilly man to a little dog friendly brewery that had a food truck and grab a cold beer and a quick bite. He of course charmed the toughest former military guy, and at one point the man was leaning over my shoulder loving on the puppy.. Quill’s head smelled like mint Skoal and men’s cologne for the next few hours. Awkward for me but hilarious. He also had every pretty lady, old and young going googly eyes for him. Our next destination was Sequoia RV Park which is the last RV park before hitting Kings Canyon National Park. So if you miss the turn, well then you’re pretty SOL on a turnaround 😂 but thankfully we didn’t miss it. Anyways, it was a beautiful mobile home park that has a few transient spots for people like us. We really enjoyed our time in the mountains at this wonderful place. There was a lovely coffee shop that we were able to walk to one day and enjoy a cuppa whilst playing some checkers and tic tac toe. It was fantastic weather until it rained for a whole day😅 which is when Chris had to replace our old camper tires with new ones(He found a great little mom and pop shop near there that gave us a great deal on some G rated tires, and also kindly checked over our spare). The ground underneath the camper became so ridiculously squishy after the rain, poor Chris had to change the tires in puddles and then we ALSO had to get a new upgraded jack as our one for the spare tire for the truck broke😂🙃 so we are now the owners of a nice 8 ton jack(thank youuu, Harbor Freight) Anyways, after that we woke up on travel day to snow on the surrounding hills, but thankfully not on us! If we’d been just a few feet higher in elevation we would have had a nice little dusting. The worst part though was all the condensation on our walls and windows, which can be detrimental to a camper. We had to move the couch and toys away from the slide walls for traveling to help them dry out. We’re on day 119 and mile 4,196 of our eight month journey from the southernmost point in the continental U.S., Key West, to the northernmost point you can drive in North America, Tuktoyaktuk, in the Arctic Circle of Canada. We spent most of this week in Sedona, Arizona, known for its mind-blowing red rock formations 🏜️ and purported energy vortexes.🌀 This is our third time in this quirky little town (in fact, other than places we’ve lived, we’ve actually spent more time in Sedona than any other city on the planet!), but there’s still plenty of things we got to check off our bucketlist this time, like Boynton Canyon or the West Fork Trail 🥾. Sedona has absolutely EXPLODED in popularity since our first visit in 2017 and, tbh, it was a wee bit too crowded for our liking. So we wound up leaving earlier than expected and heading north to a totally random free campground along our route 🚐, which happened to be at the Navajo National Monument. Neither of us had ever heard of this place before but it turned out to be SO cool! We went on a ranger-guided hike into the stunning Tsegi Canyon to see one of the largest Puebloan cliff dwellings in the United States, built into a sandstone cliffside in 1267. The ranger we went with was raised on the Navajo reservation and it was SO interesting to learn about the history, cultures, and traditions of this land and its people. Review Tall Chief (Encore/Trails Connection) - March, 17th to March 31st, 2024 This was our first time at Tall Chief and overall loved it! It is very close to all the Seattle area and it’s beautiful landscapes. We stayed in site 73 (ADA) site, it was fully paved which meant Richard (our son) was able to play outside more and work with his walker.
