Tomorrow night is the first @catalyst4coaches Catalyst Speakers Corner for the year and we've been given the prompt - Why you should work with me. Firstly let me just say, if only my teachers could see me now!!! In school I was always the leave everything to the last second kinda gal, but with over 24 hours to spare everything is finished and ready to go - except me! I am having BIG feelings about speaking tomorrow. The chatter in my head is picking up speed and trying to take over but I am not allowing it the space to do that. The quickest way I have found to quieten down the negative self talk is to firstly tell someone. Why? Because 99% of the time when you say it out loud you realise how silly it sounds and then follow it up with the reality. My reality - I used to work as a spruiker for many years travelling Australia, standing in front of massive crowds of people for 12hours a day, with a microphone, selling different products. I can absolutely speak for only 6 minutes, sitting in front of my computer, with a handful of people I know and trust listening! This is a lot more personal though. Rather than selling Magic Pens this is 6 minutes of me. My story. My thoughts. My words. Sure, it took me far longer than I wish to admit of fluffing around with several half cooked, mediocre ideas and a conversation with @js_communications before I realised I was distracting myself with excuses and what the actual problem was but as soon as I owned my bullshit I had my first draft finished in maybe 20mins. It just flowed and I can confidently say I nailed the brief. So what's left for my head to try to convince me of? I might be judged? Ok, and? I also know that the Catalyst Crew are going to be far more concerned with their own feelings about their 6 minutes to have time to judge me if I forget a word. It's International Women's Day and for this International Business, we have gotten to celebrate it twice. Firstly on Australian time and now on UK time. Now, I did have something else prepared for this...a cute photo and a quote from each of us talking about how we lift each other up... ...however... ...while I was looking for the perfect photo of my mummy and moi, I stumbled across the speech she gave on my 21st birthday. First I cried (of course) and then I realised (almost 21 years on 😳) that this business, our success, our clients, our relationship and the life we have created a direct response to what happens when women support and uplift each other. When they wish each other ENOUGH. When they give each other the space and respect to define what ENOUGH means to them. When they are brave enough to say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Some of the most common stories we hear from clients and Catalyst Crew Members are... ...If I succeed I will be visible and not safe ...Small business is risky ...Most people fail ...It’s just not going to work ...I am sick of trying ...Right now, I couldn’t even tell you what success looks like ...Having structure means I can’t be creative ...I’m never going to make enough money ...If I fail people will judge me When you pull these stories apart you start to see them for what they are. A strong negative bias based on the influence and expectations of others. This happens when we are stuck in only seeing the Worst Case Scenario. When somebody is deep in 'worst-case scenario', we encourage them to play a game and go as deep as they want. The only condition for playing that game is that they then must also look at the 'best-case scenario'. Finally, look at the most likely scenario. Its a sad rainy day, kids were arguing the same daily argument "Get out of my room!", my car is still stuck at the mechanic, my daughter has a broken foot, I have a mountain of washing, I need to do a grocery shop, chores are all piling up. I really could complain about a lot of things. Its so easy to only focus on all the stuff! But when you do that you miss all the good bits. The rolling belly laughter with my daughter, the snuggle with my son who's nearly 13 and really doesn't snuggle so much anymore, the armful of sleepy kittens 🥰 and they were just a couple in the 2 hours between waking up and kids leaving for school. Take the time to recognise them, to see them, to acknowledge them and soon your life will be buzzing with the glimmering, magical, joyful bits you thought were missing from your life completely. It's not all woo woo, it's scientific fact of cause and effect. Newton's third law - every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Literally you get what you give! No, I don't for a moment think Newton was considering his thoughts and behaviour when he came up with theory. He was talking about a ball rolling or a swimmer swimming etc, but it's all energy. Your emotions, your thoughts are still energy you put out in the world. What are your shiney glimmers today? Can you even recognise them or are you so caught up in the stuff? Im LEAPING into 2024! It's nearly the end of January, back at work, kids heading back to school, we're all passed the "New Year, New Me" bullshit... So it's time to get serious. How are you showing up this year? When I reflected upon this question I realised 2023 was my year to crawl. Yes, we have to crawl before we can walk but no matter how much grace I gave myself I was still frustrated with the pace and wanted more from 2024. I knew this year I had to find a word that would spark the joyful play and fun my innocent adventurer was desperately missing last year. I also knew this year was going to have some massive milestones and was going to require some faith to jump into the challenges ahead. All I could see and picture in my mind were lilypads and a real life game of Frogger and I soon realised there was no better word for me than leap, especially when I googled all the synonyms. Roaring!!! I am going to spend 2024 being loud, being much, taking up space, laughing and unashamedly thriving. At the beginning of each year, @catvalentine_catalyst and I not only choose a word that is going to be our mantra for the year, we invite all of our #catalystcrew to do the same. Your word is your reminder of why you are slogging away at your own business. Why you are making sacrifices. Why you sometimes cry. Why you sometimes have to say no to things when there are invoices owing. Why you have step into your power when you are feeling shit and be the face of your business. Why you care. Last year my word was CONFIDENCE and oooooft didn’t I step I to mine in 2023!?! Imposter syndrome was replaced with power. Running bootcamps and trainings, making connections with clients I’d have previously thought were too big/cool/important for lil ol moi. Stepping in front of the camera…any camera…and (usually) loving what I saw. I cannot wait to look back in 12 months time and see how this year has me roaring! How comfortable are you with receiving gifts? In the act of receiving, we enter a space of vulnerability. The gift is beyond our control, and often, it nudges us into discomfort. But here's a thought: if receiving a gift feels uneasy, how might this impact our ability to welcome more of what we truly desire into our lives? I used to struggle with receiving gifts. Uncomfortable, I'd deflect, concoct reasons for people not to give me gifts, and fret over potential reactions to unwanted presents. I even controlled the situation with detailed gift lists. All the while, I wasn't open to receiving my true desires. However, recent times have shown me the opposite. In the last month, I've been gifted so many beautiful gifts, some arriving as delightful surprises in the mail—because who doesn't love an unexpected parcel delivery? What's remarkable is I've genuinely loved these gifts. They've sparked joy and made me feel incredibly loved. Even better, one serves as constant reminders of how incredible you are and help me feel connected to my incredible catalyst crew. AND THATS A WRAP ON THE LAST BOOTCAMP FOR 2023! I will have more insights, expressed more eloquently when I have has sleep and processed the weekend BUT I just wanted to express how grateful I am for my amazing business partner @catvalentine_catalyst.
