It was fun when in the process of preparing for the final painting I discovered more commissions, more projects and more creative little "avenues". Like the palette study of my acrylics for the Ajna flowers commission. I can't wait to add it to my sketchbook of palettes, marbles and glazes. And then the line study of the elements of the painting. The chakra itself, the sunflowers and lotus flowers came as flowers at different stages of their opening, much like our chakras through the day. Being an artist and a writer one needs mental space for play and object play. I find the process itself effortless and like with everything else practice is good, bad, goofy.. embarrassing until the final piece is made. Enter the Otherworld Acrylic on board 30cm x 30cm The Otherworld is the domain of those beings we know as Faerie/ Sidhe/ The Good People/ The Little People, etc.. Throughout the centuries, countless people from all around the globe have told tales of finding themselves lost and disoriented on paths they’ve walked a hundred times. Or somehow finding themselves transported to a different realm while walking familiar trails thru the woods. Some call this being “Pixie-led”. Many experiencers, upon returning to the world of familiarity we call ‘real’, describe having felt confused, being lost in a labyrinth-like world of paths that lead in circles right back to where they began. Some describe the feeling of being in an altered state of consciousness. These experiences are often very frightening, particularly for people with no knowledge of the folklore of such things, however there are also those fortunate individuals who return from these events having experienced something wondrous. A realm inhabited by magical beings of all shapes and sizes, the likes of which we Westerners have relegated to myth or fantasy in our ignorance. The Otherworld is a realm that exists parallel to our physical reality. Other than being taken there by it’s mischievous inhabitants, it can be accessed from an out-of-body state, while astral projecting, and also during psychedelic journeying. This piece is inspired by two of the most recent experiences I’ve had, during astral projection, of being guided into and around this realm. These two experiences remain to this day the most intensely strange, bizarre but equally beautiful, fascinating and life-changing non-psychedelic experiences of my lifetime. I have decided to do a series of chakra paintings. It feels right at the moment. Balancing perhaps. So I am starting at the root…engendering feelings of safety, anchoring and a connection to the ancestors. It feels womb like already. I'm more than halfway through this project of painting all the chakra mandalas for @mooryogalynton studio! 🎉 Although I just realised that when I mount them the mount will take away a bit of the adhesive so I may lose some of the painting!!! Argggh! Why can't I think ahead? It's soooo annoying 😔

Fourth in the Chakra series - the Heart Chakra (Anahata). Representing love, compassion and kindness and connected to the colour green. Finding a green Australian flower was a little tricky but luckily I came across some sweet green tinged flannel flowers (a repeat flower in my paintings anyway for their beauty, softness and gentleness). Oil on canvas - fourth in the series of 7 energy centre paintings. I'm loving seeing them all lined up together in my studio - Red to Orange to Yellow to Green to Blue and I have yet to paint the final two - indigo and violet.
