Today's first stop on my @northcoast500 drive is a visit to the UK's most northerly A-Road service area - Gleaner Skiach Services on the A9. This site offers a filling station with SPAR UK store and was built in the 1980s when the A9 new Evanton bypass opened. The site also hosts three @chargeplace_scotland EV chargers and used to offer a full self-service restaurant. Unfortunately, the restaurant became a casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic and now sits vacant. Another amazing dinner @tonguehotelsutherland at their Varrich restaurant, on our #evnc500 road trip. Kames steelhead trout, pea, herb and spinach risotto was outstanding, fish and chips from the specials menu was delicious. Starters of Shetland mussels were absolutely delicious and the venison carpaccio was excellent. Pre starters of focaccia with oil and balsamic, and olive’s with feta and little crisp breads were delicious, the anticipation of the rest of the meal was heightened from taking our seats. Breaking News: Scottish Government to Disband Charging Network for Future Growth and Investment ⚡ The ChargePlace Scotland (CPS) network, with over 2,500 chargers across Scotland, is set to undergo major changes. Rising demand and the need for investment have prompted authorities to consider taking control of their chargers, potentially forming new partnerships with private companies. Transport Scotland denies reports but acknowledges the necessity of opening the network to private investment. The aim is to leverage £60m of public and private funds to double the size of the network to 6,000 charge points by 2026. The transition will create a public charging network largely financed and delivered by the private sector. While ensuring a seamless transition, the approach will target areas where both public and private funding are required. Efforts will be made to improve the availability and reliability of Scotland's public charge point network. This was a tricky wee number as the fuse board was not close, but after some careful planning and some wrestling with an armour cable we managed to get a very neat and tidy install. #drawingaday Day 14. No drawing yesterday as it was Joe’s birthday and we had a trip away. This drawing follows a tense and fraught trip home . We were booked on the 17.35 ferry for which we needed to be in Oban for 5.05pm. We have an electric car and had failed to find a working charger until we reached Tyndrum with 2% battery! Once we plugged in we got a text to say the ferry had been brought forward meaning we needed to be there 35 minutes earlier. This did not allow us time to get enough charge and make the check in time. Very stressful! We charged just enough to get us to Oban before the sailing departed (not for check in time). Again we arrived with just 2% battery. But we made it for the pretty rolling/rough crossing and limped ashore to Craignure. I drew this of what I could see of the pier in the dark from the car charger. #gladtobehome #islandlife @calmacferries
