Mid-April, ISS attended the 15th International EurAdopt Conference on #adoption in Cambridge (UK). More than 200 experts and practitioners from all over the world attended. EurAdopt decided to address the topic of “The Generational Impact of Adoption”, with three main themes: 1) Families in adoption, 2) The experiences of Adoptees and 3) What can professionals learn moving forward? Researchers and practitioners from Europe, North America and Asia presented their current research on the impact on #adoptedpersons becoming themselves #parents; on the microaggressions experienced by #adoptivefamilies and #intercountryadopted, and on the concept of #identity of #adoptedpersons, while other speakers explored adoption from the perspectives of the #adoptees, adoptive parents, grandparents and birth siblings within adoptive families. Thank you to all the organisers, and in particular, all the #adoptees, to speak up by sharing their own personal experiences. I was scrolling through my albums and thinking “wah sayang nih kalau nggak diabadikan 🤣” A few days ago, I was given the opportunity to be the MC, partnering with @giyofikri at the launching of BERANI II, a program built and organized together by LPA Jatim, DP3AK, Pemerintah Canada, Bappenas, UNICEF Indonesia, and the other decision maker on child protection. Even though I couldn’t make it to the end of the event bcs I had a lecture to attend in the afternoon, it was such an honor to be a part of this program launching event in person and see how we all agreed and spoke up on how important the child protection is. On March 30th 2024, our community gathered for a creative class centered around the theme of "flow." Throughout the session, we delved into the concepts of acceptance, surrender, and releasing control to allow life to unfold with ease. We reflected on the highs and lows of our experiences, sharing our feelings and methods of resilience. The class involved meditation, poetry composition, and symbolic drawing to represent the flow in our lives. Following a satisfying meal, we explored expressive dance, fostering connections between our physical, mental, and spiritual awareness, as well as with one another. As the session drew to a close, we teamed up for a lively game of cricket, fostering camaraderie and laughter.
