Catherine, Beryl, Dorcas, Sharon, Maureen, and 30 other ambitious young women are determined to graduate from high school and hope to take their comprehensive KCSE exam in June. First, they need basic supplies and equipment, and weโre asking for your help! We registered Lenana Girls High School, a boarding school for orphaned or impoverished girls, with the Ministry of Education and Kenya National Examination Council. Thank God we have been approved, and now we have an examination center for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), an exam which is required for graduation. That means our students can sit for exams in our own center, at the location where they are safely living. This is all due to your support! The next challenge we face is to complete our science lab to accommodate the 35 students taking the test. We are so grateful for your support and are planning a celebration for this great milestone in our journey, but please continue with us. We need $4889 (Kshs. 660, 000) for the reagents, basic lab equipment, and 35 chairs to prepare our students for the KCSE exam in mid-June 2024. Our work in Cape Verde is expanding. After realizing that there are many women who are marginalized and living in a desperate economic situation, we have started a sewing project to teach some of the mothers how to sew and eventually to give them a sewing machine so that they can start a business and get out of poverty. This morning, our Programming team headed to the RISE Recognition Ceremony organized by @volunteernynow to celebrate the great work and success of all RISE volunteers! The RISE (Readiness thru Integrated Service Engagement) program connects adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities to nonprofits in the area where they can build a variety of skills while volunteering. Social welfare from southern part of Okinawa recently contacted us for help. They desperately in need of foods for the struggling families in their city.
