Kurt Cobain & Courtney Love wedding: It was a small ceremony on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii at sunset with a mere eight people attending. The groom wore his pajamas. The bride wore a silk and lace dress that had been owned by Frances Farmer, an actress from the 1930s and ’40s who was involuntarily committed to a mental hospital and became something of an outsider icon. The marriage was performed by a female non-denominational minister. Courtney Love had discovered she was pregnant a few weeks earlier, so she and Kurt Cobain scheduled the nuptials for when Nirvana played Hawaii at the end of a tour of the Pacific Rim. The band’s drummer Dave Grohl, who played a part in fostering the relationship, attended. Kris Novoselic, Nirvana’s bass player, did not, as he was opposed to the pairing. Honeymoon? Over the coming months of Love’s pregnancy and after the child’s birth, Cobain took a break from touring and indulged his heroin habit. Love was able to kick her dependency on the drug while carrying the baby, which they named Frances Bean Frances for Farmer, and Bean for what she looked like in the first sonogram the couple saw, i.e. a bean. Conveniently, Cobain was being treated for chemical dependency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles when Love gave birth there and was able to be present for the blessed event. It certainly was controversial. Cobain initially resisted Love’s pursuits after they first crossed paths in 1990 and ’91. Kurt 1993 authorized biography of Nirvana Michael Azerrad cites a January 21, 1989 Dharma Bums gig in Portland where Nirvana played as support, while the Charles R. Cross 2001 Cobain biography has Love and Cobain meeting at the same Satyricon nightclub venue in Portland but a different Nirvana show, January 12, 1990, when both still led ardent underground rock bands. Courtney Love made advances, but Cobain was evasive. Early in their interactions, Cobain broke off dates and ignored Love's advances because he was unsure if he wanted a relationship. Cobain noted, "I was determined to be a bachelor for a few months [...] But I knew that I liked Courtney so much right away that it was a really hard struggle to stay away from her for so many months." Love first saw Cobain perform in 1989 at a show in Portland, Oregon. They talked briefly after the show and Love became attracted to him. Everett True, who was an associate of both Cobain and Love, disputes the earlier versions in his 2006 book, claiming that he himself introduced the couple on May 17, 1991. Cobain was already aware of Love through her role in the 1987 film Straight to Hell. According to True, the pair were formally introduced at an L7 and Butthole Surfers concert in Los Angeles in May 1991. In the weeks that followed, after learning from Grohl that Cobain shared mutual interests with her, Love began pursuing Cobain. In late 1991, the two were often together and bonded through drug use. On February 24, 1992, a few days after the conclusion of Nirvana's "Pacific Rim" tour, Cobain and Love were married on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii. Love wore a satin and lace dress once owned by Frances Farmer, and Cobain donned a Guatemalan purse and wore green pajamas, because he had been "too lazy to put on a tux." Eight people were in attendance at the ceremony, including Grohl. Love said she was warned by the Sonic Youth bassist Kim Gordon that marrying Cobain would "destroy her life"; Love responded: "'Whatever! I love him, and I want to be with him!' ... NEWS: Justice for Kurt by Courtney Love Won’t Appear on New Album During a conversation with podcaster Marc Maron for his WTF show, Courtney Love provides more information about her upcoming album, which she referred to as her “magnum opus.” A closer look at the show reveals that Love spoke extensively about her late husband, Nirvana vocalist Kurt Cobain. She is open about the consequences of his ghost. She claims he damaged several facets of her life. Love discusses a “hidden” song called “Justice for Kurt” that most likely won’t appear on her upcoming album in the program clip that follows. The following conversation begins 20 minutes into the episode: And then we wrote a song that we can’t perform since it got swallowed, even though it is only 2:24 long and is a rock song, said Love. Maron questioned, “Why can’t you put it in?” “Since the campaign is dubbed “Justice for Kurt.” And it’s fantastic! However, they are too foolish and we are. The story would be swallowed whole by it.
