I have always loved Kota Doriya sarees—that light diaphanous fabric which make summer a little bit more bearable. But I had never seen really how they are woven. The weaver who also ran a small shop kindly showed us how he works on a pit loom, and explained how he chose colours and wove in the motifs. Then a few lanes down were shop after shop selling bangles, both made from glass and lac. Lac bangles are special because lac is a kind of a resin that becomes malleable with application of heat. We couldn’t resist getting some, and the bangle-seller made bangles according to size we wanted.
