At last it had five floors, but now just one of them is left, and it has 105×105 meters area. Уловени усмивки на Цветница от Койнаре, където за 4-ти поред път бе изпълнен народния обичай „кумичене”, с участието на децата към НЧ "Христо Ботев-1889", гр. Койнаре с ръководител Таня Кировска Tanya Kirovska-Gramatikova. Кумиченето се изпълнява в неделния ден, на Цветница. Обредът е продължение на празниците от Лазаровден. Лазарките замесват обредни хлябове, наречени „кукли“. На дървена бухалка всяка мома-лазарка поставяла залък от обредния хляб и свой нишан. После ги пускат в течащата вода на Искъра и гледат на която мома нишанът е пръв, тя ще се омъжи първа през годината. Обичаят се нарича „кумичене“, а момата – „кумица“ на лазарките. От реката останалите лазарки я носят обратно към селото “на столче“. Те спират да разговарят с нея до третия ден на Великден. На третия ден от Възкресение Христово лазарките ходят на гости на кумицата, която ги черпи с боядисани яйца и баница. Первыми в племени химба просыпаются женщины. Каждое утро, когда мужчины и дети еще спят, и солнце не слишком высоко, они выпускают из загона скот, отправляются за водой, приносят дрова. В центре деревни – “окуруво”, священный огонь. Большинство химба не знают своего возраста, не умеют ни читать, ни писать, зато они знают, как общаться с душами предков, сидя у ритуального костра. Все хижины деревни смотрят в противоположную от него сторону, кроме одной – дома вождя, связь которого с потусторонним миром никогда не прерывается. На полузасушливой земле Кунене женщинам запрещено тратить воду впустую. Моются только мужчины; а их жены для поддержания личной гигиены берут уголек из костра, добавляют корешки трав и окуривают себя с головы до ног. Помимо сладкого, дымчатого аромата, женское тело химба отличает красный оттенок. Каждое утро представительницы прекрасного пола натирают кожу "отжизе”, смесью животного жира и охры, и, когда приходит время, соскабливают ее вместе с грязью. Эта древняя косметическая процедура не только делает их похожими на терракотовые статуэтки, но и защищает от ожогов солнца и укусов насекомых. Ни один из многочисленных аксессуаров химба не лишен смысла. Так, прическа замужней женщины – дреды из волос, соломы и козьей шерсти, покрытые залой и глиной, указывают на ее возраст, клан и семейное положение. В семье химба все подчинено традициям: пока одна жена старосты с утра строит хижину из палок и смеси грязи и навоза; другая, подоив священных коров, приносит молоко мужу. Вождь пробует его, показывая, что предки принимают подношение, и теперь напиток могут пить все жители деревни. Затем женщина опускается на четвереньки, и в знак уважения к мужу уползает в сторону крааля. Женщины химба делают всю самую тяжелую работу, но не за это ценят их мужчины. Главное – они рожают детей. Когда мужчина надолго уходит из дома на заработки, его жена имеет право провести ночь с кем захочет. Если после этого она забеременеет, муж будет только рад. Welcome to Sefrou, the creative home base of Culture Vultures. Over the years, we’ve fostered strong ties with the local artisan community, facilitating connections between visitors and them. One such local industry is textile button making, carried out by Moroccan women. Though seemingly small, this ethnographic tradition significantly impacts Sefrou socially, economically, and some say, spiritually. During our visit, we tried our hand at Sefrouian textile button making, discovering that it’s more intricate than it appears. @sama.morocco and Culture Vultures, collaborating with BYU University and USMBA, are in the preproduction ethnographic research phase of a documentary on the buttons, set to be filmed in mid May. When a study desk becomes a garbage Earlier in April I spent a week volunteering in northern Noto Peninsula to remove furniture and other belongings from damaged homes and bringing them to the designated trash sites. I understand that every piece we handled used to be an important component of someone's everyday life. I understand that I need to handle them respectfully, not as mere garbage but as something that carry peaceful memories of pre-disaster days. But the sheer scale of damage on houses, roads, bridges and other built environments was gradually eroding my attitude toward those small things. In the end I found myself even thankful to the heavy machine which picked up a study desk we had struggled to bring out of a house with zero hesitation to place it on top of a big pile of discarded furniture at the dump site. #designresearch #ethnography #notoearthquake #japaninspired
A zöld ág a természet éledését, a tavasz eljövetelét jelezve többféle népszokásban, sokféleképpen megjelenhet a termékenység, egészség, szerelem szimbólumaként. A május elsején állított májusfa is a természet újjászületésének hasonló szimbóluma, a májusfa állítás szokása pedig a szerelmi szándék egy fontos kifejezője volt. A májusfát a legények egy csoportja állította fel május elsejének reggelére a lányos házaknál. Ezt gyakran titokban tették meg: előző este vágták ki a fát, amin gyakran csak a lombot hagyták meg. Ezt a fát vagy egy zöld ágat erősítettek a május elseje előtti este a lányos házak udvarának kerítéséhez, melyet előtte szalagokkal, zsebkendőkkel, virágokkal, egy üveg borral vagy hímes tojásokkal díszítettek fel. A májusfa állítás azonban nem csak titokban történhetett, hanem nyílt ajándékként is adhatták a jövendőbelijüknek. Ebben az esetben a lányok is feldíszíthették a májusfát, majd a lányosház megvendégelte a májusfa-vivőket. Today was AMAZING. I got to spend it with @andrew.r.wyatt @cleliechaos and @jeneene1030 filming for the @fortnegley Bass Street documentary at the @mtsuanthropology lab. Watching the archaeologists interact with Ms. Jeneene, someone who grew up in the neighborhood they had partially excavated, was special. They each realized that they only held half of the story, and together began making meaning of the artifacts right there in front of the camera. It was truly something to behold. I think in this moment we all realized what we're doing here: we are working together to recover something Urban Renewal took from the city. Everyone's story matters. I cannot wait until Nashville sees what it has been missing. (The Bass Street neighborhood at Fort Negley was founded by Black Civil War veterans and their descendants, who lived there until forced to relocate to make room for the highway. This rare throwing knife is almost exclusively carried as emblem highlighting a special status. On the photo, Charles Rodolphe Perdrizet among Ngambaye, Laka and Yangere throwing knives, shields, arrows and spear heads. He was a french explorer. In 1894 - 1898, he thus passed the Bouar massif and reached the Ouam River. He recognized the Lobaye, founded Bossangoa (1896) and then returned to Carnot in May 1897. With Emile Gentil he explored Chad (1899 - 1900) before becoming civil administrator of the new Haut-Chari region. Photo shoot in 1894 -1898 between Mamberi and Ouham (Bahr Sara) by G-A. A poignant comment on this picture, often credited as a banjo player, being solely a posed photo and one within racist pretence. Tony Thomas, MFA, says: "It is unfortunate [to be] taken in by the faked picture of a supposed Black Banjoist produced in 1902 by one Victor Schreck of Savannah Georgia, a minor Democrat segregationist politician, and I believe banker, who also marketed “nostalgic” pictures of Black people illustrating the idea that African Americans especially the generation of liberated ex-slaves were ruined by freedom and reconstruction like the several picture Schreck took of the unfortunate model of this picture. I presented on this kind of misrepresentation of African American banjoists as a whole, but in particular at the end of the 19th and early 20th Century at the 2018 Banjo Gathering using this picture and others of that series as an example, and extended on how the popularity of this fake reflected the continued misrepresentation of African American Banjoist particularly in the period it was taken. I contrasted the stereotype represented by this racist fake picture with the real images and real careers of Hosea Eason, Charles Stinson, and Vance Lowry, three real African American banjoists who were internationally known. #6/8 During the Cambodia project, The initial hurdle faced by the team was tackling the data deluge. We amassed a vast amount of information through interviews, surveys, and observations. Transforming this mountain of data into a cohesive and logical argument proved to be a significant task. Next came the issue of flow and focus. We needed to create a narrative that flowed seamlessly, guiding the reader through our findings without getting bogged down in the details. Striking the balance between comprehensiveness and conciseness was crucial. Maintaining a laser focus on the central theme of the research ensured our message wouldn't get lost in the sea of information. Ultimately, presenting our work in a clear and engaging manner, despite the initial data burden, was essential to maximizing the impact of the Cambodia project. Behold the captivating facade of the MEG - Musée d'ethnographie de Genève (Geneva Museum of Ethnography). Founded in 1901, it was originally located in the Mon Repos Villa and brought together a diverse array of public and private collections, including ethnographic treasures from the Archaeology Museum, Musée Ariana, Evangelical Missionary Society Museum and even weapo s from the Geneva History Museum. Between 1980 and 2001, three proposals to build a new museum in Sturm Square were rejected. The city then envisaged renovating and extending the building on its present site. The MEG’s new pagoda-shaped building was opened on 31 October 2014, after four years of construction work. It was designed by @graberpulver The galleries and an auditorium are located in the basement; the cafeteria, museum shop, and ticket office is on the ground floor, facing the garden. Upstairs are restoration and cultural outreach workshops, as well as the library, which includes a small space for listening to music from all over the world.
